Hello ?

Hello FD, this is Clem Fandango...can you hear me?

It's strange since it's been over a month since the last major communication, we were told update 10 would be coming in January 2022, and the CG rewards still haven't shown up for many (all?) of us.
Frontier is preparing a HUGE and GOOD announcement.
Is there any other reason to stay completely silence, even with all the bugs they didn't fix in update 9?
Of course not!
Good things are coming! :)

I'm certainly starting to wonder if there's an announcement coming but whether it's good or not remains to be seen.

Anyone taking bets?

2:1 they turn up eventually and it's business as usual

4:1 they do a big forum post and it includes a roadmap for 2022

10:1 David does a big forum post and it's bad news - Frontier have decided to abandon all future development plans for Elite, they won't be supporting Odyssey on console and from this point onwards the game on PC will go into official maintenance mode after update 11 and the fleet carrier interiors. Horizons will also remain supported in its current state for console players and those who are unable or unwilling to upgrade.

I like those odds - put me down for 3billion credits on the 10:1 option!

1:1 odds on its coming 100% Powerplay update. If you have money, put it on now because it will make you rich.

It's gonna be a business decision the console part. Port to the last gen (the originals xbox and ps4 with 1.4/1.8 tflops) is impossible with the current engine and state of the game.

I hope they post a REAL roadmap for 2022 without the big surprises. Let's be honest, Frontier knows how to do big surprises. The Thargoid first encounter was HUGE surprise. One of the best in game history! (ok... I'm a fanboy!)
Abandon Elite I think it's almost impossible. In their financial results they make clear statements about the continuing support, and would be dumb since they just released Odyssey.
Elite has no real competitors on the market today. SC is the closest and still a buggy tech demo with wipes.
Frontier knows that, and with Odyssey they have not only the capability, but the framework to implement many new things and sell many expansions.

my 2 cents. :)

100:1 David has a long post - they can't get Odyssey working on the old consoles - all console owners should look under their chairs - everyone gets a free current gen console, courtesy of Dave! PC owners all get a free 3090 as well!
oprah-surprise.gif

Everyone is happy, apart from all the ex-players, as they get nowt!

The 10:1 is more like 100:1 IMHO, though I'd give a 10:1 on it being the above but with PC development continuing and the consoles going into maintenance mode.

edit; My hope is that update 10 wraps up the optimization and there's a release schedule for Odyssey on console.

A mix of the first and last perhaps, with the bad news post being less specific about the future so nobody is any the wiser afterwards.

What makes me think it's more erring on the bad news side is if it's good news you'd be hyping that up, wouldn't you ("big EXCITING announcement early next year, watch this space!" that kinda stuff). You wouldn't just hide in your room and pretend you're not there.
