I'd like to disagree, but only in as much as to the intended purpose of the grey market... since I can plainly see and agree with where you draw the comparisons...The grey market was setup expressly by and for folk selling up and moving on...always at a loss. With SC, you could say it's a last option for many caught up in the initial hype and predatory marketing surrounding SC from the start. It's a necessary evil rather than a frivolity.
Maybe it is that now, I dont know, but it was for sure not the case at the start and for many years where the main driver was speculation on prices (and demand) going up, or LTI disappearing etc... If now those main drivers have been replaced by rather players trying to dump their assets, that is all part of the market mechanics. Markets go up and markets go down. Perceived value and sentiment play an important role, like in actual markets.

The day this utter nonsense becomes commonplace in gaming is the day I give it up without reservation. I'm all for people who have a thing about crypto currency or blockchains having the freedoms to do so ...but when major game studios accept this as a way forward (or backward) for their business, they won't be doing it with my money...not a penny of it.

That may sound somewhat hypocritical coming from someone who's spent a fair bit of cash on Star Citizen over the years...not to me. Buying pixel spaceships (be they current jpegs or otherwise) for my own use in a game is one thing, buying them as NFT's with the sole intent to sell for potential real money profit is quite another. That's not about gaming...not in the slightest.

The funny thing is, the only way you will see NFTs in gaming will be in walled gardens, and in walled gardens, you don't need NFTs.

No publisher (unless they have a partnership deal) is going to share their blockchains with another publisher for NFTs to be used in others games. They may allow the NFTs to be transferred between games within their own stable. But you don't need NFTs for that, since its all internal, and you can control the sale of any assets between players anyway.

Perhaps...but that's not how I ever saw the grey market...or used it...but I'm not a bulk buyer or reseller. It's not always been around, certainly not from the start. I can only recall it's existence from around mid 2016 and the beginning of the mass exodus personally. More than likely because I never looked rather than it didn't exist 🤷‍♂️

Missing sounds bug Xeno V2 and V3 vs V1

Performance is a lot better in V3 than it has been in V1 and V2, higher Frame Rates, the lag is completely gone, but they seem to have lost something that IMO is quite critical to it, some of the sound, which isn't trivial, sound is so important to "immersion" good sound design can make something good brilliant and along with graphics SC has some of the best sound design, tho not always, some of the legacy stuff doesn't sound good at all.

For Xeno Threat, on the first patch that started CIG made a change to how missiles sounded and some of the effects of ships exploding, all very good stuff. But it seems to be bugged now, and apparently these are bugs.

A couple of things here.
Firstly the sound of missile impacts, in V1 the sound of missiles hitting targets was quite loud with some very cool bangs and booms, IMO very very good audio design and it seems to be missing from Xeno V3.
Secondly the Idris explosion, very similar to V1 in V3 but with the final 'WOMP WOMP WOMP---- KABOOM' entirely missing from the audio.

I don't know if this is a bug or by design choice but if the latter IMO that would be a shame, as i said IMO its good audio design and it would be a shame to lose it.

Please bring back the KERPUUUNG and DUN-WUNG-WUNG of the missiles and the WOMP WOMP WOMP---- KABOOM of the Idris, go easy on me with typing out these sounds. 😁

Video's for comparison.

Yeah, Ray's great ensaltening was mentioned at the time...

Just based on his dulcet tones, this fits...

Although he still works a ship giveaway in. Amazing...

He has supped on the sweet nectar of copium since though...

Ray has tilted back to copium…

His theory?

  • CIG feared the backlash from either (A) projecting 4.0, then not delivering, or (B) not projecting 4.0 at all… [Seems quite possible]
  • CIG have a 4.0 branch up and running now, and when it all comes together, a 3.X patch will suddenly become 4.0 and hit the PU rapidly… [Secret dev build y’all ;)]

Bless him…

Well, we could always speculate which actors they will get to play the roles of CIG staff when they make the film of its rise and fall.

I've got the perfect candidate for Brian Chambers.

For Sandi they'd need to find someone with zero acting talent. Therefore i suggest they don't mess around and simply hire Sandi to play herself.

Chris will be a tricky one. It will probably require a good method actor, who really can get into the whole hand waving and giggling thing that CR has going on.

Ben will probably be best done using CGI.

I've gone back to 2015, there was a better brand of hopium then...

[Discussion] Honest question (based on /r/TrueGaming Auteur thread) from a enthusiastic yet gently concerned, deeply-invested backer.

Let me preface this by mentioning I'm deeply invested ($four digits) into this project, and that I don't mind if the end result of some of these quirks I'm about to ruminate on is extended time to release (2017? Fine. Just complete the promised featureset). As long as it doesn't drag along to the point of running out of backer funds.
