Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I sort of blame CIg/SC for any game in early development that takes the money and runs. Not sure why, exactly, but I think CR and company have inspired some, in that way.
For me it's Kickstarter. The floodgates opened after Tim Schafer's campaign was so successful. It's also where $$$ridiculous$$$ comes from as well. Everyone else's crowd-funding campaigns finished. Chris Roberts left his going

Interesting argument that SOCS and OCS simply aren’t working as they should:

SOCS and OCS isn't working correctly the longer a server is running.

It appears that many objects that are created when players are near
are not deleted correctly. Thus the number of things a server has to
track - items, NPCs etc. - gets larger and larger the longer its running.

But this is exactly what SOCS was supposed to prevent as the server
in theory should only keep, track and stream what is relevant data!

You can monitor this yourself easily with the server "entity" count
and using r_diplayinfo 1

As a rule of thump on what I have observed for a while now:

Join a fresh server with say 15-30 players and your entity count wil be around 20k - 30k.
Entity count can still go up to 40k - 60k in old asset locations like Lorvill or Area 18 / ArcCorp.
Join a server that is running for a while and has 47 players, your entity count will be around 150k - 200k.
Join a server with an active event such as XT / 9Tails / JT2 and the entity count explodes to 370k upwards.

On average I have ~32 FPS when walking through the security gate to the ASOP terminals at Riker Memorial
and Teasa Spaceport. On servers with exploding entity count its down by ~ 10 FPS in those same locations!

So the saying that "server performance is not impacting client FPS" is wrong in so far, as that an old server
will send your client hundreds of thousands of entity information and updates that are not relevant to you!

Anyone fancy playing around with this bit? ;)

It's all going well..isn't it?

Further alienating their existing customers by making the common practise of store credit buyback purchases and LTI token CCU's almost pointless 🤭

Next step will be to further limit store credit purchases and have some ships purchaseable as warbond 'new cash only' sales...just wait :)

I'm not sure I really get it. Are these the main issues?:

All buybacks are now pegged to the latest price (not the old lower price), whereas before it was just CCUs? And Warbond discounts, which used to be exempt, are now pegged to the latest price as well?

That's what I'm getting from the chat here:

From what I can gather...and I haven't spent much time looking to be fair... as an example... I had a spare BMM in buyback bought at the original concept price of $250 a few years ago that I exchanged or 'cashed in' for the same amount in store credit. Now, if I wished to get it out of buyback with cash or store credit (currently, 2 store credit buyback tokens are issued quarterly...used to be just the one), at the checkout transaction I'd be charged the current store price for that BMM, roughly $550, to get it out of buyback even though I only paid $250 for the ship.

Makes the other common practise of buying it out of buyback for the original concept price and reselling it on the grey market at current $550 price to make a decent profit now pointless.

That's how I understand it anyway..

I wonder what the motivation is.

Purely to put a dampner on greymarket refunds? (Given the warbond savings are still seen as good deals by others etc)

As a way to turn the screw on fresh cash from old backers? (IE if someone figured they were gonna get that BMM back at some point, maybe they'll cough up the extra $300 now, or top up the needed? If they're silly ;))

Does seem like a strange thing to do while the last outrage is still smouldering

I edited the last post...it's to prevent (or make it less attractive for) the likes of me buying back the BMM for cash or store credit at the original concept price of $250 then reselling it on the grey market for...let's say $420... undercutting Ci¬G's inevitable, relentless price hikes and artificial rarity but still making me some profit.

Make no mistake, this cynical change is aimed squarely at the grey market. Fortunately...I already privately sold that increasingly desirable spare BMM for $420 a couple of months ago. In case anyone might suspect me of blatant profiteering... note the current price of an LTI original concept BMM on the grey...the nice chap who bought mine got a pretty good deal at mates rates :)

Don't worry about Uncanny Valley. He's a certified nutjob. He just invents stuff all the time, and calls anyone who disagrees with him a hater and a troll.

Love the concept of the video... secret dev build yo!

EDIT: God, those guys sounds high AF!

That would explain their conclusions.

It's bizarre though that he's celebrating, or apparantly celebrating, 6 planets out of what, 110 promised? and nearly ten years later then they were promised. So that's less than 1 tenth of deliverables that were promised nearly ten years ago, they really are setting their sights low to give CIG the opportunity to fulfill their desires, and you know what, even that bar is to high, I personally don't think anything will be released under the control of CIG!

Imagine writing this and not realizing Star Citizen is an obvious scam.

Buyback CCUs (as in, a ccu you bought for a ship to another ship and then melted to retain the price for later) are now at the official store prices. For instance, a ccu from a P72 Archimedes ($40) to Redeemer ($250 originally) used to be $210. Now it is $285. ...(Note that this does not apply to standalone ships/packs)...

CCUs (warbond or not) in Buyback that were at a certain price due to how much each ship cost in addition to the warbond discount (if applicable) are no longer "locked". If either ship (or both) change price, the price of your Buyback ccu will also change instead of being at the price you initially bought it at (was locked at). Again, this does not apply to standalone ships or packs in your buybacks (so far)

Heh, looks like CIG screwed up one of the few remaining consistently functional gameplay loops, irritating multiple whales in the process:

Gotta hand it to Chris and co. - they know how to kick backers in the groin while they're down. :D

Really starting to look like they're leveraging for a sell-out to a major publisher.

...

Though some white knights will defend absolutely anything CIG does:

My guess is Chris and his current wife could offer Harry Greers' first son on an sacrificial alter, and he'd thank them for it.

At least we don't have to randomly guess what was discussed during the 'planning week' then...screw over longer term backers, give the marketing snakes absolute control over the entire project completely destroying any lingering vestige of patience with Ci¬G and discouraging anyone at all from spending any cash...that'll go down well 🤭

I have the strangest feeling that it's got something to do with a handover of the PU (eventually) to Turbulent...something along the lines that they'll be assuming complete responsibility for the PU at some point due to some buyout or shifting of shares or lack of investor confidence... including Ci¬G's enforced detachment from the PU to concentrate exclusively on Sqn 42. It feels like they're just throwing some petrol on the dumpster fire of SC to make it difficult for 'someone else' out of badness.

No idea why I get that feeling...but something is amiss. It's becoming more and more apparent that Ci¬G ain't happy about something. Maybe they failed to gain further potential investment from the Calders or someone else we don't know about ...yet, perhaps even a punitive financial payout to the Calders due to persistent delays and lack of visible progress... who knows? 🤷‍♂️

Wait what, who's trying to get $800 for a BMM?

CIG sell it for $550...

(Are they trying to charge $250 for imaginary insurance? 😁. And, like, early access to a non-existent ship...?)

Ci¬G's artificial rarity driving the grey market sale prices, plus it's an original concept and not been upgraded from a CCU token...it's inevitable that when it reappears in the RSi store being a bit nearer to flyable, it'll have gained a few hundred dollars on the current $550 price tag. I could safely bet that the BMM will be well over a grand at Ci¬G prices by the time it's flyable :)

Well damn, they added salespeople to a stationary Javelin once. Surely it should be worth $5000 now ;)
