Behold! The ENTIRE heatmap for this planet.

Sometimes the plant like a biome which is somehow rare on the planet.
Conchas like it deep and dark. Bottom of canyons and the like. Might be a rare occurrence on this world ?
I love how people talk about 'biomes' when they actually mean 'surface tile', like there's something complex going on in the placement of plants 😘

Sometimes there is actually. Usually it's rather simplistic, fungoids like mountains, tussock highlands and conchas deep valley, but sometimes it's a bit more complex.
I had a weird world with 2 bios, the bacterium only grew in what looked like ancient sea beds, while the other grew elsewhere. There were definite biomes, the ancient sea beds were one, while most of the planet was a desert otherwise.

That's still the surface tiles - they're just designed to look like biomes.
Some tiles are positive for bio A, some are positive for bio B.
It's why the tiling issue is so visible with the heatmap active.

Note:
I'd be VERY happy for someone to provide a screenshot of the same surface tile showing different bios.
Please, prove me wrong!

Po-tay-toes, po-ta-toes.

It's a game, so no, there are no biomes in game, just a bunch of colored textures to look like one. But if you prefer, then sometimes some plant on some planet prefer one colored tiles over another, even though they are identical for everything but the biome it's supposed to represent.
It's not super rare, but not super uncommon either.

Also, plants hates the poles if the planet have some. The ice one, not the people who can into space.

Sorry, I'll go back to suspending my disbelief 😀

I just want to mention that the often called "heat map" is not about heat but a HEIGHT map instead! :)

It used to be a real heatmap during alpha, but Fdev thought we were stupid it was confusing. So now it's a "yes/no" map, but not really since sometimes it says "yes" but it's in fact "no".
People kept calling it heatmap, since it was changed without player knowledge until trial and error happened, people asked and Fdev said no, it was not a height map anymore.

Honestly, I don't know how people can think it's a height map, when it doesn't cover the whole planet :D

Also, what has height to do with coverage of the planet surface with bio discoveries? Apart from the fact, that some prefer different biomes tiles ( :D ) than the others (but that's again not reflected on the coverage map). What would be the purpose of a "height map" in relation to coverage of bios? lol

And, the same height terrain has often different shades on the coverage map, which is in fact the best proof it is 100%, definitely, positively NOT a height map.

I think it's due to the difference in shades. The "heat map" we have is not uniform in color. When you have relief underneath it, it's darker. Probably because it's just an overlay and it's affected by the underlying color. So it look like a height map, at times.
