Frameshift Live 4/5/2022: Console Account Transfers & Elite Dangerous 2022

sounds ok....... would love to know if the narrative content is live service stuff, play along with and then done (like the current story) or if it means more narrative stuff injected into the game to flesh everything out which can be done at our leisure, be it in 2 months or 2 years time.

also no mention of developement of a future paid dlc which is a shame.

edit
oh yeah..... props to the console update...... sounds like everything that a console player could wish for, only sticking point seemed arx BUT you can just spend your stuff on Horizons console and then transfer to pc. if they come through with that then i think those saying they would be happy if FD would allow transfers have to take that as a win.

An upbeat but vague update sadly. I'm happy to hear of console transfers, i think it hit the mark for most. With the updates for the year, it provided nothing but Arthur's vague reference to something major and new has me wondering and I am feeling a little hopeful because it appears to be something big 🤔 I think they should have revealed a little more to tie us over  Hmmm.. back to another long wait

Vague news on content updates. Le sigh.
it did have a hint of Jam tomorrow about it and reminded me a little of the 2017 (i think it was) announcement of beyond.... albeit without the gorgeous ice planet update tease.

not meaning to be negative, i mean it wasnt terrible but it was so vague it could mean a lot of things and it wasnt really the hard slap to the game is struggling nay sayers that one of the guys suggested it was. the update in 2023 sounds nice but it could still be anything

I'm going to say the "Key feature overhaul" is exo-biology. That's the lowest hanging fruit because they obviously wanted something different from what they delivered for that role and it would make sense for it to be what they are overhauling. Even though there are other roles that could easily dwarf the participation numbers in that could use overhauling.

And i hope the new mission variant is escorting (ship based mission). But I get the feeling that fdev's focus is all about foot gameplay and so this will likely be a foot related mission.

all the focus on narrative content isn't bad. I just dont have much hope that it will be heavy on player agency in being able to steer that narrative in any significant way. but going forward is definitely an improvement. And with any luck, some of it will be sprinkled as re-usable missions/stories that can be applied dynamically by the BGS.

The narrative content bit doesn't read like further CGs and GalNet, but more like actual narrative content like how the guardian ruins were years ago. It would definitely fit with the claim of a new major narrative phase in november which I suspect to be thargoids on foot. I would be fine with that. This and two more updates with a direct focus on performance... I guess it's alright for now.

I'm impressed with the console news. I'm underwhelmed with the "roadmap", though I am intrigued by what Arthur said regarding, "Never before seen gameplay" that's somehow tied to the narrative. Still, I can't help but wonder what this road map would have been if Odyssey was a successful, relatively-bug free and well performing update last year.

I've also not seen anything in the roadmap to entice me to buy Odyssey, but maybe November's update will change that. Fingers crossed that we at least get a more meaningful announcement regarding this update before the Steam Autumn sale (ie - Black Friday).

With no bounty hunting CGs, I don't have much reason to play Elite at the moment (that's just where I am personally), but the upcoming narrative may change that.

Still, it was nice to have the communication. This was the first livestream that I was actively attentive to in a long time.

It would have been like 2019 was while Odyssey was being developed in the background.

The biggest issue with the disappointing Odd release is how likely it is that future DLCs & pDLCs will actually get development funding (ie whether they happen at all). ED needed Odyssey to be a win, hopefully longer term it will still be considered so (oil tanker analogy) and development will continue, albeit at an even slower pace than we have seen so far.

Console account transfers news, and I'm sincerely pleased they've finally announced something and it's not "too hard won't do.

I guess the conjecture (including mine) that the hold up was contractual may not have been the real sticking point (who knows what discussions have gone on in the background) and that our assumption that it was technically straightforward may have been a bit naive. Most people (again, including me) assumed that was the case due to some (or at least one) CMDR(s) getting access to their console accounts on pc, but in retrospect, given how quickly they got 'fixed' we don't actually know how broken those accounts might have been had they been allowed to progress on them.

All that said, that wasn't the best part of the stream. No the best part was when they picked one of my #stellar screenshots 📷 as a winner, although I might be biased about that.

Frontier, thank you. I am an Xbox player and the solution for the console transfers is excellent. Thank you. I am eager to continue my journey in Elite on PC.
I’d like to echo this.
Thank you Frontier. I’m looking forward to buying Odyssey and finally getting my space legs. Looking forward to the transfer to PC. Thank you.

Odyssey needs a lot more integration between the ship gameplay and on-foot gameplay. And more variety of things to do at bases. This is one of the reasons why the steam user reviews are low.

For example:
  1. Add ship combat,
  2. Bombing above bases,
  3. Let ship turrets shoot walking NPCs on the ground,
  4. Make the stealth mechanic more interesting with gadgets and that you can pick up hide bodies.
  5. Add more different things to discover on planets to improve the exploration.
  6. FPS gameplay on stations.
  7. The NPCs on foot act too simpleminded.
  8. Increase performance at bases.

  1. What do you mean here as what I think of as ship combat is present in Odyssey.
  2. I see troubles balancing this.
  3. Well at least make it slightly easier than it is now when the lock only holds while they are hitting your ship with their fire.
  4. -
  5. Yes and if a mini game is included make it one that feels appropriate to the activity.
  6. Not until there are more locations available on stations.
  7. To be fair most of the ones in ships aren’t any better, it could get embarrassing if they started outsmarting us again.
  8. This should be at number 1 along with improvements elsewhere as well.

When is the next stream?
Should be on May 19th, but it seems they didn't update the schedule on Twitch yet. Otherwise refer to this weekly thread:

Please note that Elite Dangerous is now streaming biweekly (once every two weeks), and so won't be streaming this week.
