EDDiscovery 18.X is now out. Modules panel upgrades and Engineering

15.0.3 fixes:

  • A crash occurring on some video cards due to use of a debug buffer binding above 16. Occurred on a nvidia 2070.
  • Fix issue that error dialog is not produced but program asserts if user gives a non accessible/writeable/creatable data location during install
  • Suit upgrades now work correctly and change the suit identifier and name to the next level up
  • Suit weapons panel now works more smoothly during updates

Just installed version 15.0.4.0, the local 3d map when opened in a tab crashes the program although the regular 3d map seems to work fine in a tab, the local 3d map seems to work ok if opened in a new window though, other than that it seems to be working ok;

We have another one of those. There should be no difference between a tab and a popout. Are you running multiple maps at the same time.

I just ran a local and 3dmap in two tabs and it was fine.

Tested both ways, with 3d map in tab as well, then just the 3d local map in tab with no other map, then the 3d local map in window of its own, it always crashed unless it was in its own window.

Just my opinion: EDD is still the best tool for the explorer. I've been using it to record my travels since 2015. There are others but none come close.
Excellent work, thank you.
(EDSM is an awesome tool as well...except for all those adverts).
Fly safe, Cmdrs.

Hello,

I would like to import a txt file into the expediton tab. What kind of syntax is necessary to do this? One system per line or must it contain other things?

Thanks.

  • Import File - import either a CSV file of system names, a text file, or a JSON file.
    • CSV Column A is used for the system name. All other columns ignored.
    • Text file just consists of system names new line separated
    • JSON imports - see the export JSON for the format

And we have a major upgrade

Three more videos on EDD have been released in conjunction with this release to aid you.

15.1 has a major new system - discoveries observer, which allows for built in and user customisable searches on discovery scans to identify unique bodies:

Fully integrated into the surveyor, this system can find you bodies such as planets embedded inside rings, close binary pairs, etc. The search scan panel:

Give you the option to define your own searches, either based on modifying a built in search or a new search you made up. If you do a good one, please share, you can export user searches to a file.

The surveyor can use these searches so you can see them pop up as you explore : See

We also have a new Engineering view:

Which gives you an Engineer centric view of the recipes. See

Plan them in the company of each engineer. It also shows you your current state and distance to the engineer.

Enjoy

Thanks for all the effort involved in maintaining EDDiscovery. I've continued to update it over the years even though I only use a fraction of its capabilities. It's very impressive.

One of the things I've been thinking about for some time is an audible alarm for when the ship gets within a certain range of a destination planet, inspired by the "we're coming up on Alderaan" moment in Star Wars. With the advent of Supercruise Assist this seemed more more viable, and while there don't appear to be any actual Assist or Orbital Cruise entries in the Journal file there are Approach Body events which might do. Is it possible to get EDDiscovery to poll for such events and play a sound? It seems straightforward, but every time I open any of the configuration options I'm overwhelmed by the complexity.

Having now had a further play with this and a proper look at the wiki (there is no greater catalyst for learning than broadcasting one's ignorance to the world) it seems as though what I needed is the SoundBlaster add-on which plays MP3 files on trigger events. I'm not quite sure yet where in the filesystem these MP3s are supposed to live, but in this particular case it's all a bit moot because there doesn't appear to be a suitable event to trigger on. The Approach Body event is only logged when one actually descends through orbital cruise towards the planet. Entering orbit courtesy of Supercruise Assist doesn't generate a log entry. In fact there don't appear to be any Journal events for Supercruise Assist at all, just standard SC entry and exit logs no different to manual operations. Which is both surprising and disappointing. :(

If the approach event is too close for you there's no way to do this. Your current distance to any body isn't written to any file by the game.

Once you installed the SoundBlaster addon you would be asked to specify the MP3-folder.

i didn’t get that dialog. It’s possible I installed this years ago, uninstalled it and forgot about it which would make this a reinstall. Does it remember paths from previous installations? Is this path stored anywhere that’s user-accessible?

Thanks.

It normally stores data files in %localappdata%\eddiscovery
Thanks. I'd guessed similar but that folder also had an empty Sounds subfolder so I dropped an MP3 in there. I'll do some experiments and move it to the parent folder if needed. Alas it won't work for the original purpose (unless FD ever add SC Assist events to the Journal) but I might be able to use it for other stuff.

If you delete the SoundBlaster using the Add-On manager and reinstall it you're prompted to choose a folder again. So if you don't remember the path and didn't define too many things yourself (making it hard to redo them on a new install) that would be the easiest way to know your path.
You could also go to %localappdata%\EDDiscovery\Actions and edit the SoundBlasterV1.act file.
Changing line 79 to
Code:
MessageBox "Sound Blaster V1 (C) ED Discovery team\r\n\r\nUse Add-Ons | Manage to enable or disable this\r\nUse the wave menu items in the Add-Ons menu to configure defaults\r\n\r\nChosen MP3 path: %(SoundEffectPath)","Sound Blaster Pack"
will tell you the path if you click the SoundBlaster item in the Help menu.
