Question: I'm headed back out to the black in the newly improved Phantom. Is it worth fully scanning planets you discover? Is there a formula for which ones to scan?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
I don’t think so, I use all sorts of limpets when mining and that is all Analysis mode and hard points deploy just fine in Analysis Mode.Duh, silly me, limpets are a "combat mode" thing. When you fire them, they deploy hardpoints...
Or, rather, they require hard points be deployed to be able to fire them...
If you intend to land to investigate the Bio or Geo signs on a planet then you should fully scan and map it, there is a large graphic that someone will have a link for that shows a small picture of every type of planet and how much they are worth.Question: I'm headed back out to the black in the newly improved Phantom. I always scan any high value ones, and DSS them. Here’s a chart of values.Question: I'm headed back out to the black in the newly improved Phantom. Is it worth fully scanning planets you discover? Is there a formula for which ones to scan?

So I was right the first time...No that is not correct, you 1) can be in analysis mode (e.g. mining) 2) no hard points were harmed in deploying any limpet.
The fact is you have to click a fire-button to deploy a limpet and if you have "firing deploys hardpoints" set to on* then firing a limpet deploys hardpoints.
* This is probably the second binding that I disable (after jettison all) since inadvertent knocking of a fire button in a station can result in the rebuy screen.
@Marvin the Martian this is exactly what I was going to suggest. I tend to map anything worth at least 100,000 CR, which is pretty much everything in the lower left corner and Class II Gas Giants near the top left.I always scan any high value ones, and DSS them. Here’s a chart of values.

Forgot to mention, I use the Elite Observatory program, along with the Evaluator plugin, when exploring. It automatically highlights any bodies that are worth scanning, according to the value I set (1 million creds). It's just easier than pulling out the system map to check if something was terraformable, basically.Question: I'm headed back out to the black in the newly improved Phantom. Thanks! I'll see about getting this all set up.Forgot to mention, I use the Elite Observatory program, along with the Evaluator plugin, when exploring. So what I do is FSS everything, then check the values and DSS high-value stuff. I also DSS any biological signal planets.
Elite Observatory - Search your journal for potentially interesting objects, or notify you of new ones on the fly while exploring!
What even is this? Elite Observatory is a tool which can read and monitor your Elite Dangerous journal for objects which might be "interesting" so you can go take a closer look. What is "interesting?" A lot of things, potentially. Currently the built-in checks include: Landable and...forums.frontier.co.uk
MattG's Observatory plugins
Quite some time back now, Vithigar mentioned he was working on a new version of Observatory that would allow plugins. This immediately piqued my interest, and I've been watching the project progress with anticipation. Now we have our hands on the new version I've been busy writing some plugins...forums.frontier.co.uk
Any module you fit that fires can extend the hard points. Scanners (wake, DSS, etc) do the same thing. So I was right the first time...

I've got it installed, the two plugins installed (biologist and explorer) and it's running, but I have no idea what to do with it or what to look for.Forgot to mention, I use the Elite Observatory program, along with the Evaluator plugin, when exploring. Here is a detailed break down for Odyssey with the column on the right showing the values for bodies you are "FD" first to discover, "FSS" Full Spectrum Scan scan, "DSS" Detailed Surface Scan and be "FM" First to MapQuestion: I'm headed back out to the black in the newly improved Phantom. Many are not worthy...It's working.
I just hadn't discovered a planet worth getting an alert over. It just went off.
The motherload!!! Nice find...
I'm just jealous.
Although I did just find a system that has 9 planets worth mapping (over 1 million value each).
