I've only recently began exploring space, and most likely it isn't anything new but I don't really know how to search it up. Could anyone tell me what that thing is and if I can interact with it in any way, preferably without dying by doing so?

Looks like a Thargoid Probe or Thargoid sensor. You can try to pick it up with srv. Depends on how far away you are from a station or (if you have one) your own carrier it will damage your srv/ship if you have no corrosion resistant cargo rack in your ship. Dont know exactly the value of it, you could sell this thing for something around 100k credits perhaps more.

Ah, now that I know what name to search for then yeah, it looks similar, thanks. Can't pick it up though, can't select it at all. But I don't have storage for it anyway. But it certainly does look high-tech.

It's Thargoid Sensor and I don't think you can do anything with it. It's broken. There should be sensor fragments around it that you can pick up with SRV (those are mats needed for synthesis, so no cargo space required). But if you don't do AX combat, you probably have no need for them.

Yeah, there were sensors around. And not doing AX combat yet but slowly thinking about making build for that task so good to know. Thanks for answers

They are a requirement to unlock two engineers that improve thrusters (among other things).

Damn, you're right. Totally forgot that it was requirement to unlock Palin (and now the new girl from Witch Head).

Just came across one in an atmospheric moon with life, 10 kylies west - northwest from the Bubble. Not a traditional Thargoid direction at all, though there are some Guardian ruins not too far from there.
