Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

This is the only way to gather materials.

I've done it twice and have several ships fully engineered.
Each to their own.
I have all my raw material bins full and never visited those places.
Some day I will have a look, just to tick one item off of my 'to do someday' list, IF they don't shut down 3.8 servers before that. :D

LHS 417 9 E A Geo Sources 18, 19, 21, 23, 25 all have lots of Selenium, Yttrium, Mercury & Arsenic plus lots of lower grade stuff.
Only in Horizons though!
That sounds great cheers! Only trouble is, I just tried going into Horizons for another planet I've been exploring that's said to have arsenic in Odyssey (found some Zirconium at a fumarole but that was all.)

Back out in space in Horizons, pointing at the same planet, I can't get the surface scanner to work. Can't switch modes and options only seems to have a field to exit the surface scanner but not enter it. I'm still checking through them though. (I'm a mouse and keyboard player - got a HOTAS joystick but until I get a bigger desk I've no room for all the gubbins it comes with. Now I'm used to it I quite like mouse and keyboard though.)

Oh and re the planet I was on earlier, ie the one with the tourist beacon, I just came across another thread here in which quite a few people have complained about no lava spouts there any more in Odyssey...

Don't laugh...

Here is my latest aquisition, an Eagle Mk II. I was looking for a cheap ship which wouldn't requiere too much material to maintain (weapons) as is the case for the Corvette and still let me do some bounty hunting, I tried a few before but never was fully satisfied (Imperial Courier, Vulture, Federal Gunship).

So I remembered that I liked the Eagle the first time I flew it because of its maneuvrability, but now that I have a little experience, I am able to engineer it for a specific use and tactic: In short, I go to a Resource Extraction Site (High) look for weapon fire, scan the target so as to optimize the reward then poke it, or I scan it until the local cops pay attention and start firing.

During the last engagement, I was literally on my own against a Viper Mk III and finished the fight without shield (my fault), I managed the kill but this built allowed me to go RTB to the carrier without any internal damage despite being down to 50% HP, I came back after a <> 20 mn sortie with a bit more than 3 and half million bounty. It works.

I'm still working on my flying, evading adverse fire is primordial with this ship but the ship make it easier, I think I'll keep it.

Here is my actual bluit, unfinished and subject to changes. Wanbli means Eagle in Lakota.

Agreed. For Selenium it is better than HR 3230 -3AA. The rocks are separated by a longer distance and you need to travel more to find one than HR 3230 -3AA "forest" but you hit Selenium more often. I never farmed Yttrium before either. Good info!

This was exactly what I do when I first get into bounty hunting, and the reason why I call my eagle "Free Rider" :ROFLMAO:

I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to do another suit. At least for now. Given what I've read on "quieter footsteps", the upgrade may not be worth my while doing. Therefore, I'm going back to getting all my weapons done instead. Just for lolz.

TK Zenith is next, the Karma C-44 last.

And I just lost my first CZ. I still made about 4mCR but I blame the rest of the team for not being up-to-scratch and told them all to go back to CZ school, the wimps. I was not to blame, no, not me, uh-uh - I was handed my backside three times and I'd hoped, during my hurried return, they would have captured at least Alpha and Foxtrot.

My last death was caused by swallowing a grenade. It wasn't pretty.

Given what I've read on "quieter footsteps",

Not sure what you read about it, but i find it very useful for stealth missions, and at least useful generally speaking.
Not making any noises while running through settlements, even when you behave and dont carry anything illegal, can still save you from drawing guards attention towards you and getting scanned thus slowing you down.

I'm planning to have at least 2 mavericks for my 3rd account:
one for farming (which i'm currently use) with: nightvision, increased backpack, and reduced tool battery usage (one open slot undecided yet: sprint or quieter footsteps)
and one generic (in the making, only G3): nightvision, quieter footsteps, and then undecided yet, but most probably sprint and something else (increased battery capacity, reduced tool battery usage or even increased backpack )

You need to map the DSS to a fire button in one of the fire groups. First "shot" enters the DSS screen, further shots fire the probes.
You'll also need to map two axes to aim.
Aye I checked that and it's mapped in both Odyssey and Horizons. The problem seems to be my key bindings, which are fine for me in Odyssey but not in Horizons, which I'm guessing are a separate file to the Odyssey file are they?

Not that it really matters to me anyway now, as I've decided that I'm not that bothered if I don't find any arsenic at all in Odyssey. The important thing is that I have a reasonable selection of raw mats in my suit so I can choose what and what not to trade with a raw mat trader in exchange for arsenic or anything else I might need. I already have a pretty good selection on me but I'll carry on for a while looking for anything at all, then go and visit one.

It was this:

Specifically: "Quieter Footsteps reduces the detection range of NPC hearing while walking or running, but not while sneaking. It effectively makes walking as quiet as sneaking, and running as quiet as walking."

There was also:

It seems crouching will render you silent anyway so...

The 'Vette is hungry beast for engineering materials...
It' already engineered, it's the raw material needed to run the 4A Multi-cannon and 1B Seeker Missile Rack Synthesis reload which becomes costly with time, depending on how many sorties I manage with it.

Now, I've been testing a good half dozen combat ships this year, all fully endineered, plus transports and mining ships (last one Type-7), combined together with materials needed for Synthesis, it deplets raw materials in no time.

If I want to do assassinations with some headroom, I need to use at least Standard Materials, I can't really afford Premium, but standard is good enough for bounty hunting.

Each time I need to top up my Inventory, I go to HIP 36601 where I can find Polonium, Ruthenium, Tellurium and Technetium, 1,570.19LY from Wolf 363, my home base, it's not a trip I like to do with a Krait Phantom so I use my Carrier, like I use it to carry new ships to engineers when they don't have the range, It's trading Tritium for materials.

The light fighter will allow me to make some credit at lower material cost so I can buy Tritium and do the trips, I'll still use the Corvette though, when enginnering a new ship is over.

Right now, my Carrier is at Wolf 393 (Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn, multi-cannons) and I'm going out with the Krait to farm other materials like Conductive Ceramics, Polymer Capacitors, Conductive Polymers and Modified Embedded Firmware.

I run @Codger 's build on my Vette. It's fully engineered now and just sits there pummeling everything in it's path with impunity. It's all turreted pulse and burst lasers with multi-cannons in the 4 slots. (One corrosive and one incendiary). It costs nothing to run it.
I don't really like lasers, it takes too much time to get a lock on target with them which can be a problem if you're going after a formation of more than two agile targets, the only laser I use is a 3C Beam Laser engineered for Level 3 Long range Thermal Vent, very useful because I also use 2C Plasma Accelerators which generates heat. Multi-Cannons uses Synthesis...

When I do a sortie, I try to make at least 10 grand out of it, it takes one to two reloads, depending on the targets available, I use the Vet in Resource Extraction Site (Hazardous) where I'm more likely to find bigger bounties, like Fer-de-Lance, Mamba (rarely), Python and Anaconda.

My favourite target are the Anaconda, sub-target the power plant and they go boom before you know it, you have to take the shierld down of course but the XG9 Lance and Seeker Missile are very good at it.

I suppose it's a question of tatse... Deep Blue.
