I've taken a bit of a detour on this exploration trip now. Turned north and decided to head for Morgan's Rock, an asteroid base I called at on the long trip I did in the Asp X a few weeks ago.

It's 4,000 odd LY from Sol and after I changed course to head for it I was actually getting a bit closer to the bubble for a while, but I'm now getting further away again and am currently about 1,600LY from Sol. Nevertheless, even this close in I've still managed to pick up a few first discovery bits and pieces here and there and just now got an entire system with star, gas giants, moons and planets. Got the full monty on one of the moons as well, with first discovery, first map and first footfall when I went looking for some exobiology.

Once I arrive at Morgans's Rock, I'll flog all the data I've got so far, then head east-north-east again to follow the inner spiral arm to see what else I can find. Since the base is still 115 jumps away from me right now and I'm honking and discovering every system along the way and landing on some planets as well, maybe I'll get there by say, a week next Thursday or something... :unsure:

I did laser mining in the Anaconda a while back, but found the cockpit position being so far back a bit awkward. Maybe now that I'm more practiced at laser mining it would feel better.

This is one reason I like laser mining in the T9. I can get up close and personal with the rock and the collector limpets have less distance to travel. Of course I can't do that with every rock...

I toyed with the idea a few months back when there was a decent sale, but in the long run I already know I don't have enough time for my current commander. So many things to do...

Yeah. These are tough. Pulled one of them off barely. The second I failed and barely escaped. I have to get some mods on my suits and guns I think before I can do these. Just going to bite the bullet, cancel the other ones and go back to resets and such until I can get some better equipment.

I like doing assassination missions carrying nothing more than a flight suit and charging tool...zzzzzZZZZZT!

Same here.
The Universal Multi Limpet Controller have the same range but unlimited life time, so you can gather away from them up to their maximum range (9100m) providing they don't crash into a rock they'll be doing their job whilte you're launching the 5A limpets.

The only drawback is that you can't fit two of them, which was the original idea, I had to resort to a 5A instead, I think 11 limpets including Prospector isn't too bad.

I concur...though the price tag is MUCH less of a concern than the cargo space...
Also @thinder, I misremembered yesterday when I included Monazite in my list. It was really Painite that I gathered along with the other things. My post a few pages back has been edited to reflect reality...

Depends which ship you're using and how much cargo space you want to have, since I don't like to spend hours mining I have enough cargo space, a capacity of 256 for one rack only is already more than I usualy manage to mine in one go...

It's rare when I hit spots where I feel that I need more cargo space, most of the time it's more like I can't wait to have exhausted my limpets, plus the cutter leaves you with plenty of options with the number of compartment it has.

I just spent more than 1,203,875,438 Cr in Tritium (that's what I have left in cargo after 4 jumps), I'm used to spend credits on stuff when I want to achieve something, apart for the crash during the first trip, going to Colonia with the Anaconda didn't cost me anything, it's a matter of choice. For what it does, the Universal Multi Limpet Controller suits me well.

The nice thing about mining out in the black is I can stop whenever...and when I get back, no pirates. So I don't "have to" fill the full cargo capacity in one sitting, though sometimes I do.

I'm planning to mine when my free cargo capacity goes up to 40% at least for question of mass, will be looking for Platinum and other materials I can sell at a good price, didn't have much luck lately, but first I got to get this cargo down a bit and I take my time to explore around the Carrier, doing some Level 2 and 3 scans...

So I went for a material collection tour on this icy moon in the Khun system.
All went well until I ran into a group of Sentry Skimmers, because I did not pay full attention where I was going.
They instantly attacked me and I decided to defend myself instead of running away. The first one popped and a bounty reward message did the same. These Skimmers were criminals, according to that message. Okay, I thought, let us get them all. Tried to get them from the turret, but that prove more dangerous for me than for them. With some inspired driving, I got them in the end.
Bounty was not very substancial, but enough to pay the fuel bill for that trip and some change...

I moved on and collected every material that did not make it onto the next tree by three (due to lack of trees, they did not stand a chance...), honed my vehicle control on ground as well as mid air and just had some fun in the snow.
Then I stumbled upon this:

Curious as I am, I slowly closed in on it, prepared to take another Skimmer attack.
Indeed, one showed up:

But it did not attack me. It just scooted around, scanning every grain of snow on the ground around this contraption.
I slowly rolled closer to the beacon and eventually, a marker appeared that indicated that I could scan this device.
Turned out that it was of imperial origin. I wonder if this ship I found on the approach to this icy moon is in some way related to this beacon...

I honestly wouldn't even go bounty hunting without a fuel scoop 😹

If I was really serious I might fit a class 1-3 scoop, as I did on my T9 when I was using it for a cargo CG. For the sake of a couple of % cargo space, you save yourself the pain of that one time you forgot to refuel before you left and now here you are, in an uninhabited system, unable to leave. And no, you don't want to fill a T9's tank with a scoop, but it's quicker than calling the Fuel Rats!

(I know the Fuel Rats are amazing, but I'd rather never have to call them!)

If I really messed up like that in the bubble, I could just jump my fleet carrier in to rescue me. It's never happened though.
