Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

That's sort of my point.

There are roughly 604 programmable keys on my keyboard. There are 18 on my mouse. I can't imaging needing any other buttons to push. Hell, I don't even use a fraction of the ones I have.

I can implement 3 different thrust axis simultaneously.

I just don't get why anybody would need that many buttons on a controller.

At any rate, finally made it back to Deciat with the FDL. Got all the effects put on and it's about half-way (grade 3 for most things) engineered. I'll see how it performs tomorrow afternoon sometime as I'll be busy in the morning.

The only thing I don't like about it so far: a fuel tank about the size of my bladder.
If you fly a Mirage 2000 or F-18C in DCS, HOTAS makes a lot of sense, replacing the mouse by a hat with a click function is a must, you can use the cockpit funcions or select a target on a radar screen without letting go of your stick and you always need to be ready to maneuver and being able to look out, get your eyes off the cockpit.

After a while, 18 functions can become a low average and you wonder how you can add to the number, especially if you fly in VR where you just can't see your mouse and keyboard.

Once you have aquiered the taste for it, you don't look back, and I'm about to order a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Flight Stick to replace what I have now, I'll keep my TWCS THROTTLE which if cheap, is very good and works flawlessly but the stick, with only 4 buttons and one 4X axis hat have to go, in this case MORE is better.

Oh, I forgot, now I also have Voice input to suplement the HOTAS, after this video, I realized how useful it can be for comms.

Definitely.

I have DCS and tried it out with my old Logitech 3D Pro but it just wasn't cutting the mustard. I also have IL2 Sturmovik. I want to get a new HOTAS setup for those games eventually.

I'm looking at getting a VKB Gladiator stick at some point. Probably after Christmas because I want to get a new 2k or 4K monitor first.

I haven't played it since my G2 packed up (I used it in this video), but I secured the budget for a full upgrade of my PC including VR headset, so I guess I got a lot of retraining to do...

I use a Virpil Alpha in aeroplanes but I use a VBK EVO in Elite - don't ask me why, it just feels* right. ¯\(ツ)

Whatever suits you best is best for you.

If you get use to a set of controllers, can customise it and get stable bindings, your gaming improve, compared to DCS, I find Elite Dangerous relatively simple, especially because you don't have the level of complexity you find in modern fighters like some of the modules available there, it's especially noticeable in combat situations...

I've had quite a bit of fun doing the on-foot CZ stuff - my faction won a few and lost a few but I still managed to gain about 3 million credits in combat bonds.

I'm back exploring now, this time heading north-west (ish) and hoping to eventually explore some of the Temple and Inner Scutum-Centaurus Arm regions. I'm in the Asp X again this time as the jump range is several LY better than the Dolphin. Also got a fully upgraded surface scanner with engineering from Felicity. Right now I'm still only about 500 LY from Sol and already got a first map on a water world. 👍

Whether or not I actually get to any of those distant regions, before I get fed up with it and want to go back home remains to be seen though.

Whatever, according to the news on the launcher screen:

So maybe being away from the bubble again for a while isn't such a bad idea.😆

so your carrier is going to be a empty vessel?. ship and services are key or commodity, fuel i assume has i not rich yet!.:)
So what you're trying to say (by all logic) is that I'll need Shipyard to allow for players to disembark?

Fuel is the most important to me, I'm way off the bubble and nearly as far from Colonia, North East in the Norma Expense and still pushing North East, given the choice I'll uninstall the services I don't use for exploration to gain cargo space for Tritium, it's a no brainer.

I bought a Fleet Carrier, not a Filling station.

I have a question for the Odyssey community.

In view of using a Fleet Carrier in Odyssey, which upgrade will I need in order to reveive other players aboard and offer suitable, useful services?

I will not be using Secure Warehouse , Outfitting and Shipyard to preserve cargo space.

Mine does not have those either. You don't need them, only scurvy cheapskates that won't buy their own carrier would use the last two anyway.

No, they just can't buy ships or even summon or store ships. You can, just the hoi poloi can't if there is no shipyard.

So which services should I get in order to allow players to disembark, use the bar and eventually get a ride in the Carrier?

I don't intend to park it somewhere, leave it there and play servicing station with a shop, to me it is a tool which I use to carry my small fleet from A to Z, without the inconvenience of having to go through 1000 of jumps, that's what a Carrier does in real life (mine isn't called Charles de Gaulle for nothing, see picture below).

I use the Razer controller and the Razor Tartarus v2, those controllers were designed almost 30 years ago and haven't changed. I never gave them much thought until I went to ranking up in combat, everything for flying a ship is there and with two thumb gimbles, all the thrusters in every direction is fully functional without a second thought, I love 'em.

you don't need to play fuel station, but you might need it for your own ships or your squad/friends, you can lock out all other players. accept your friends or squads mate if you have a group. commodity's is really a downside for shopkeeper anyway.so you can scrape that.has i never found a way to sell to them.so i usually ignore carriers to trade with anyway. unless they are my squadron ones.

Can I nuke settlement (anti personnel) with PA?? I know rocket (dump fire missile) works well, but need constant rearm...

Planning to try surface CZ with my pewpew FDL which have a huge plasma slug PA stuck in the belly.
Have you checked Adanced Missille Racks (64 rockets, especially outstanding as size 1)? At Shinrarta, + maybe somewhere else you can get em. A typical Planetary Ops ship has like 4 hardpoints, and even equipping two of those makes ammo kind of irrelevant. Not talking that you can engi on top of this if you still need more.
What's the Zenith like?
I picked up a G3 whilst randomly visiting a station, but havent tried it yet.
I find it like a little Aphelion. So a very nice thing, and especially nice if you don't plan to have Aphelion in your loadout. But best is always to try weapon on your own - just equip it and do a couple of missions and see how it works for you.

If you count to help others far in the black, only Vista Genomics sounds like a useful (if we talk Ody) service. You don't need anything at all for other ppl to be able to disembark on your carrier and see the services doors shut (though those other ppl need to have Ody to be able to disemark + a wish to do so).

Shipyard is needed for others (not you, you can use it in any case) to be able to bring their other ships on your carrier, Outfitting - to bring separate modules the same way. Take it that those two serices enable that ship / module transfer button for them. Those two are very hard on tonnage, so only taken if needed.

And the remaining services are small, UC and Repair will likely be praised, others up to your tastes. I think at some point you're either way just stopping looking at the upkeep and only look at those services weight. And in that case again, Shipyard and Outfitting are outstanding, and everything else can be mindlessly installed. But it's just my way, also my carrier is more like general purpose. If you rly trying to optimize things, even a simple Refuel service can be considered to cut, as it's still 500 tons, and that's for what, for refuel there where everone has a fuel scoop?

So which services should I get in order to allow players to disembark, use the bar and eventually get a ride in the Carrier?
Well you need a bar, obviously. but that’s all. They can land one ship, and disembark, without additional services. They can use the armory and refuel and repair if you have those and they are enabled. You only need a shipyard if you want them to be able to store multiple ships.

Thanks, I'll see when I'm back RTB (Wolf 363) if I can do without the amount of cargo those services are gonna cost, I've been out for a while and still have 20.344 tons of tritium in cargo, I might have some margin considering how far I've been up to now.

In order of importance for me:

Range (exploration).

Services for other players for them to disembark and eventuaally have a ride onboard, like taking advantage of a trip to X or Y for mining for example, I'll consider selling what explorers need to do their thing too.

Servicing/repairing my own ships and other player's.

Base for Fuel Rats services, I intend to join them IF I can get in touch with them at all, my Krait Phantom is engineered for the role bar a couple of small modifications.

Base for Combat Ops, I'll use my Corvette in the future.

Envisaged at some point: Trading ships and upgrade parts from Bubble to Colonia, I'm afraid it's not gonna happen for reasons of cost, if Tritium was more easily mineable or available at reasonable price I might be tempted to give it a go, I know there are ships and parts which are not available in Colonia...

BTW, I had to change course, where I ended up (BLO AEH KB-W D2-1) looks like a dead end, not a single planet out of this system to aim for further Noth East, I've been navigating by hand for a while now and Fleet Carrier Router has shown its limits with false readings by a margin of 200LY when aiming North.
