    The beauty of procedural generation .. unless you're within sight of them, there could be a billion blades of grass, but the engine just ignores them, too far away to care. The flipside is you need a good number of ways to interact (and large enough number of assets to try to avoid same-ness) but all objects and levers must come in 'classes'. It's also why (I believe) this stage we're at now is a bit painfully slow ... FD need to be confident that you can hit the wall of the outpost, interact with the datapoint, shoot that barnacle, as these are basic classes of object that can be morphed into something else at a later date. Object classes going in at this stage though means FD need to predict the future. I'm sure a lot of effort goes into making sure you can morph a barnacle into a tiger, or the stellar forge will run into big trouble later.

    Can't even remember the last one. It's been a long time. The problem IIRC was that a lot of players disliked the jump-honk-jump-honk mechanic to farm reports. It would be nice if they could return with something a bit more specific like 'terraformable water worlds' or 'pristine metallic rings' rather than just basic reports.     I played for a long time before I found out that there were player suggested ones too. Until recently, the details on how to submit one were buried away in the 'Dangerous Groups' section without any real guidelines other than an email address to send them to. The submission template I linked to was put up fairly recently and seems to have led to an increase in CGs submitted by players making it into the game.

    Oh yeah, blimey! Murder is illegal. You are allowed to kill other ships but only in circumstances where they are wanted (and have a bounty on them) or in a war situation. Target a ship, point your nose at it and wait for a passive scan to finish. You'll get their name, rank and an indication, bottom left in your HUD, clean = no bounty (don't shoot) .. wanted = you can kill them and claim a bounty, under contacts in most major stations. There is a special piece of equipment, Kill Warrant Scanner that you can also use to scan wanted ships. This often gives more payout because bounties can be issued locally, or galaxy wide. A KWS scan means you get paid both. (As I mentioned wars; civil wars happen between local factions as they vie for power. When there's a civil war, combat zones crop up and when you drop into one, approach it like you do to any station, you need to pick a side (right panel, functions tab under 'faction'.)     Atmospheric Planets, does not automatically mean planets with life (whether that is plant or animal life). When Frontier introduce atmospheric planets, it will be as "Mars-like" planets first...

    I don't know about that actually. In a thousand years Earth will, quite realistically, be almost unrecognisable (especially after the Nuclear wars of the twenty fifth, Hyper Tsunami's of the twenty ninth century, and so on). Just 100 years ago the car was a fairly novel idea? I think it will be open world, like it is now but that's why Earthlikes are a way off. I think we might see mega fauna on ammonia worlds etc., we're already seeing evidence of Thargoids. I hope there will be a monorail system .. and I DO want to hunt rare beasts to the edge of extinction for their priceless toenails, throwing the rest of their inedible bodies away, just for the big game hunter wastage of it.

    You make a fair point about a lack of variety recently, but this week's CGs and most of the other recent ones, were player submitted. Everyone who has an idea for a CG can suggest it using the Community Goal Submission template which can be found here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/187-Community-Goal-Submissions The best way to get more variety is for the players who are interested in doing other types of CG to submit suggestions for them. :)

    I suspect it wouldn't help development come faster anyway. Frontier would have to maintain a number of different builds and that takes more resourcing away from pure design, while the basic game (in your model) would be asked to share assets (some assets .. not that one .. and this asset is shared by exploration, mining and pew-pew but not by trading and Tharg hunting etc, etc .. and etc. .. YUCK! Said programmers .. everywhere) The spiritual version ; For me one major draw of ED is the diversity of interests different people have, while all sharing the same environment. I'm basically peaceful in the game but I still love that shenagians are going on elsewhere, fuel rats here, CG's there, giving the environment flavour and knowing that any person could move into any other thing at any time and so could I even if I don't want to! I'm looking for the right word here but 'sterility' springs to mind when losing that. I have lifetime expansion pass so would make no difference but this kind of career...
