Tell me about it. I remember having a cassette on the Spectrum 48K, can't recall it's name. It used to say a single word at the point of finishing the load. Me and my friend used to load it (For about 8 minutes), listen to it and immediately reset and repeat, for hours and hours on end. :D

The real struggle, IMO, with the current Text to Speech tech is inflecting any emotion into the voice. Stations and public announcements are one thing, getting an angry pirate demanding cargo convincing is another. I've played around with many online synthesis tools... This one has a preset under English (USA) called WillBadGuy, which ain't that bad for a pirate, bit slow though. http://www.acapela-group.com/

I just got access to packhounds a few days ago, and stuck 7 of them on my cutter to take for engineering (wasn't sure I could buy them at the engi base). On the way home after engineering them with a mix of grade 4+5 rapid fire and high capacity, all with speial effects, I was interdicted by a deadly bounty hunter in a FDL. Now I had put the 3 rapid fire and 4 hi cap missiles in seperate fire groups as I didn't know if Id fry if I launched all 7 at once! It was totally hilarious - that FDL never made it through the cloud of smoke and explosions! Wish I could have video'd it! And it was dead so fast! The heat was not too bad - think it got up just over 110% while I was spamming them but it was so worth it! I engineered about 10 packhounds to split up among various ships but I think I might just keep them all on the cutter and engineer a few more. Definitely one of my favourite weapons after today! I should add this is in PVE, it would be interesting to see if it would be effective in PVP.

Your going about it the wrong way. Rather than petition FD to change the in game clock, you need to convince the real World to adopt Elite time.

You know all the player groups/factions in the game, they can now identify their ships as a group. Or is being able to have your Commander name viewable a "nice to have feature"? Would that be acceptable sold in store?

I'm just Googling stuff, so I'll leave it at this... "Michel Cimpaye, a spokesperson for Industry Canada, explained that pubs and bars are required by the Weights and Measures Act to “deliver the quantity of commodity that they are claiming to sell.” In Canada, a “pint contains 20 ounces” and Ottawa defines the “limits of error on a pint as 0.5 ounces (about one tablespoon) above or below 20 ounces, not including the head or foam.”"

Paying for cosmetics absolutely fine. Paying to have a functionality of having a ship name displayed as text in the HUD is where problems arose. Base game has been payed for, for some an expansion and then having to pay extra for a functional addition.

Apparently a Scottish pint is 1696 Ml, sadly now-obsolete. Also. "In Canada, if you speak English and order "a pint of beer", servers are legally required to serve you 568 ml of beer, but if you speak French and order "une pinte de biθre", they are legally required to serve you 1136 ml, which is twice as much"

Adobe's prototype software VoCo is pretty impressive. You have to analyse a voice sample of 20 minutes or so, but afterwards any sentence can typed and repeated, basically they have dubbed it as "photoshopped voice overs". It's so good there are already concerns for it to be used fraudulently. Not to say it will ever be used in Elite or any game for that matter, but it might offer a glimpse of what voice synthesis will be like in the not too distant future.

That's promising. It is nice to know that the Devs don't just pay attention to the loudest players.

I think we need to understand VPN a bit better so ... Virtual Private Networks can be used to connect a home PC to a works network over the internet securely, in this case you get 1 IP address and no ability to change it. This isn't the issue. You can also get a VPN provider for a few $ a month that allows you to connect from any developed country on the planet. Generally these are used for security (your connection to the VPN company is encrypted (hence the Private bit) and it assigns you a new IP address) or unblocking content (if you pay license to a TV company but they don't allow streaming to foreign IP address's you could use VPN to appear like you're in your home country when abroad for example). You could use this type of VPN to login as though you're in France and vote then Germany and Vote then Japan and so on. However in my test the site was clever enough to not be fooled, that might just be my VPN provider or even just the connection I tried but anyone using VPN to connect to a works PC...

Reading through some of the responses in this thread, I'm rather disappointed. Pretty much the same crowd that insisted that ship transfers needed a delay "for immersion" reasons is arguing against docking computers taking no space. Well apply some of that damn immersion logic to docking computers. In 2017 a docking computer wouldn't need to be any bigger than a cell phone. Just why does one need to take up a one ton compartment in 1200 years time?

Have you considered it might not be FDev that are at fault here? :) I posted to another commander recently ... "you're not employed to scan every single planet", increase your jump range, bind a key (near your jump key) for the system map. Set a 1000 Ly destination, jump, ADS, fuel scoop, line up for the next jump, hit jump and immediately hit your system map key. You'll have a few seconds to look at the map, if it looks like an earth like, water world, ammonia world or just something interesting hit the system map key and jump key to cancel the jump. You should be able to rattle off 5,000 Ly in a few hours, you'll find some interesting places, get a few first discovered by and not spend days looking at rocky worlds with little to distinguish them. Some people are completist and enjoy scanning everything, you appear to hate doing this but are doing it anyway. Really finding that ringed Earth like twin planet wouldn't feel like an achievement if ever other system had one.

concerning VPN .... I also voted via VPN, since my work computer is always connected via VPN ... but it's still a static IP that counted only once a day (since I didn't work for 12h).

It's easier to rig it so a third faction takes over the system and you then get the anarchy faction to take the outpost. Most fed or imp factions are so boring that no one would even notice the change of controlling faction.

No. You literally need credits and a shipyard that sells an Imperial Eagle and it's yours. Not a single Empire mission done.

I think their point was you don't need any rank to buy the ieagle.
