    Many many years ago I read the Exiles books and mostly enjoyed them a lot, I read later read some of the Millieu books but found them more like the parts of the Exiles books I didn't like so gave up on them. The only bit of the nursery rhyme I remember is "and my name is Aiken Drum", I doubt I could recall names from the books some scenes and plot yes but not names.

    yes, you need to have an invite of farseer, martuuk or palin - but you don't even need to have them brought what they require to start engineering. your ship needs to be able to fit class 2 or class 3 thrusters ... you can buy an eagle or adder close by, buy the thrusters at the engineer base, and transfer them later to your courier.

    it might be, that i have cornered my courier too much in the speed departement, boosting to over 700 m/s, which isn't more usefull pve than the ~500 m/s my viper does. i'll look into a new approach on my third account. i personally like the vipers less spread hardpoints, and 4 of them allows me to use the smalls as utilities to apply special effect, without hurting the two main weapons in medium size ... while the courier always gives me a headache where to put the corrosive mc for exampel. viper was a recent revelation - i have never flown it early game, going from eagle to dbs to courier on my first and second account. eagle and dbs are for sure ships which reward experience and hone skills ... so i wouldn't recommend them for starting out in pve combat.

    The core of the game is the single shared galaxy state - a non-trivial aspect that Frontier would very probably not want to duplicate - and haven't with the addition of two more game platforms since launch. With this in mind, locking CMDRs to "separate" PvP and PvE game modes would be pretty much pointless, in my opinion - as all players would be experiencing and affecting the same galaxy. The possibility for more Open modes (with different rules to accommodate different play-styles) was included in the design information published at the start of the Kickstarter, as was the ability for players to mode-switch "at will" (and the single shared galaxy state, of course).

    Honestly, I think what FD should have done from the beginning is have two modes that are completely separate and both "Open". One for pve and one sort of as is, but rather than swap between them, we get the right to make a commander for each mode and they never swap. I think that would have solved a lot of these issues.

    Those are the basics for navigation. Waypoint plotting or the ability to punch in coordinates would be a great Qol feature. At the very least an on-board rhumb line calculator.

    as a beginner ship i'd recommend a viper mkiii. i have flown and fly both the cobra mkiii and courier in combat. courier is for sure the better combat ship - especially with enhanced performance thruster, which you can BUY in outfitting at three engineer bases. cobra is fun for hulltanking, and requires much more tactical flying. it suffers from its large hitbox in any "more than one enemy"-scenario - it always gains from its speed. i love to fly my courier with a full frag loadout, but beam + 2 mc, or beam + mc + cannon for large game hunting work well, too. i usually fly my cobra with beam + mc + small seeker misdiles, as the small hardpoints aren't well placed. but again - my current viper mkiii outperforms both - all are massively engineered.

    Some of it is great fun for some players. Groups suffer from membership limits - therefore players seeking to play in a PvE (by agreement, not in-game rules) Private Group must accept that they cannot meet as many players as they could in Open. PvP has been in it from the beginning, yes - in two of the three game modes - it's not an integral feature of the game by any means, in my opinion, in terms of requirement to participate in it or rewards for doing so.

    Jus typical forum hyperbole from Insane4un Multicrew is dead. And that is why no one play it. simply translates to - I don't use multi crew, I wanted more features/NPC crew.
