class 3b shieldcellbanks are a joke.... i definetly would go hrp + MRP as with all small ships, you gain much more hitpoints.

goemon replied to a thread Hi there in Introductions
welcome to these forums :-) when i started to play, exploration was the only thing i was interested about ... for several hundred hours .... than i took interest in the backgroundsimulation and rare goods ... ... it took me really long to get into combat at all, didn't know whether i was flying forward or backwards in the beginning, and no idea where to point my ship. beam laser turrets helped me by acting as a laser pointer. from the three ranks combat was the last i made elite in, and while i still can't stand more than an hour in res or CZ, i can now take down nearby all NPC in an eagle and appreciate how much one can learn and experience by simply shooting stuff :D - but still prefer the more slow paced way of playing by exploring the galaxy in and out of the bubble. make sure not to miss the exploration subforum here: it is the most wonderfull corner of the forums, but don't tell anyone!

I'm sceptical about your suggestions as from experience after fsd range increase engineering was introduced. if you "just want to be there", 3 times FSD charging will feel as long as previously 7 times FSD charging... no matter how long/short any sequence is. it's perceived duration, not measurable time. the 20 minutes landing on a 9,8 G world is an adventure, and doesn't need to be any shorter. departing from a body while flying towards an amazing combination of rings and a nebula isn't too long, but a reason to breath in the view. the 15K ls to a station flying a shieldless mining ship full of painite, platinum and palladium is an adventurous travel. but flying several times a day to that 2000 ls station to pick up more missions .... or doing 6 jumps to that engineer base because you just need to get two more ammo increased cargo racks ... or starting from a base after finishing a mission just to dock before calling it a day, destination obscured, another 2 minutes spent supercruising out of...

beam: highest DPS, but worst DPE (damage per energy) - anyway, an efficient mod will take care of that, and the DBEs class 4 powerdistributor can handle it, more so as missiles draw next to nothing. - you might even try a (grade 1) longrange beam, as for the seekers you want some distance... Thermal Cascade won't help you much PVE, but at least it won't cost you DPS. i can imagine that build being quite effective against small ships - sideys, Adders, eagles... against anything larger, you'll run into the problem of missiles not doing much hulldamage. i know what i'm talking about as i had some fun last week with a viper mkIII seeker missile boat in CZ ... maybe shoot out thrusters (and shieldgenerator?) with them, and than use the beam to kill the powerplant. anyway, will be interesting to hear your experience! heat will be close to no problem on a DBE wth that loadout.

Fundamentally, you're saying that if: - a player plays game A for 1 hour a day, every day, for 5 years. - another player plays game B for 2 weeks at 4 hours a day, then stops for 4 weeks and repeats that for 5 years. Then game A is a great game and game B is just a "game". I don't really see any basis for that, they both sound like great games to me. And to be honest it just seems like trying to split hairs. In that you completely put aside that both players keep playing over a long period of time, which really is what's important here.

Again so what? The tools are there, use them. Frontier simply could not develop the tools we have. That tens of thousands of players can come up with ideas and implement them is a strength. 3rd party tools are an evolving ecosystem, it is literally survival of the fittest and it breeds great tools, just compare what we have now with what we had a few years back. And even if it's only one person that thinks <some tool> is a good idea, it can still be built and will either die, or thrive, on it's own merits.

But I've been playing the game since before release, and those are my exact patterns. You say it's not normal, but I suspect it is for many players of ED. As I say people don't sit and play every day. They play, then stop, then play and so on... and that's totally fine. Go take a months break, I bet Frontier would even encourage it. I've gone literally months without playing, but so what? ED is a keeper, everyone knows this, and there are plenty of other games to play, so I go play those too. It is normal.

You are silly. Maybe video games should be regulated because it's like drugs isn't it.

But how is that not a normal pattern? A new release arrives, of course everyone wants to try it out, whether that's beta or live. I enjoy the game, on new releases you can bet I'll be right there playing with the new things, most people will. Then after I've seen them my involvement sinks back to what it was, it does not stay at the same level, nor would anyone expect it to. I do not play the game every day, nor I imagine do most people, I can go weeks without touching it, this is normal.

Not sure you can escape pay to win as defined by King5ton if you want to add any future content ever to ED. If everything has to be balanced so nothing "better" can ever be gained in an expansion, well the expansions are just gonna be kneecapped as a result aren't they. Defining it like that just seems like an argument for ruining the potential for future content. For me I want ED to evolve, don't want to see ED limited because some people might not upgrade.

+39% = 139% ;-) ... i got a 139,42% roll ... on the d-class thrusters of my trading cutter. dooh! my assumption is that secodary caps out at +10%, which would make 139,9% the best you can get. but i have not seen somebody doing 500 dirty drive rolls in beta, like zieman has done with FSD rolls in live...

nope, that's pretty much it. i go trading in boom systems and scan any system security anaconda of dangerous and elite rank from sc. i also jump into enconded USS for private data beacons. Unexpected Emission Data spawns very rarely. searching for it can be frustrating - make a habit out of scanning high ranked system security vessels in systems you are not allied, to collect a stash (i currently have 17).

For the past few days, news feeds in the Varati system have provided extensive coverage of the maiden voyage of the Gnosis, a scientific-research vessel commissioned by the Canonn Interstellar Research Group. The state-of-the art ship is the result of a community initiative that saw the public contribute huge quantities of material. In fact, the response from the galactic community was so positive that construction was completed ahead of schedule. The ship has now taken up position in orbit around Varati A6, and has already begun welcoming visitors and dignitaries from the core systems. :)

i have not seen a dirty drive G5 roll above 139% optimal multiplier - is more even possible?

i suggest visiting skardee 1 and after that re-think clean drive vs. dirty drive. or HD 49368 if you are more up for an exploration trip. the heat-increase is noticeable under extreme outer heat or when the thrusters are working heavily because of higher-G, or both. skardee 1 is for heat (and some G-force) what achenar 3 is for high-G testing in the bubble. generally resting heat will be higher with clean drive because of upped power usage - which is a bit counter-intuitive - but it makes quite a different in extreme conditions. i couldn't take neither my surface exploration courier nor my DBE to skardee 1 without heatdamage with dirty drives.

note to us: a personal trainer explained to me some year back, that it is a myth you have to do at least 20-30 minutes every second day - any activity is better than no activity! it's true for elite as well as for excercises....

yes, i have one corrosive ... probably the courier hardpoints are misplaced for frags, as those are on the nacelles and one below the belly... i have to test it on a FDL. or similar.

totally not my experience with 3 frags on a courier, but maybe the hardpoint placement of a FDL is so much better? the two central medium hardpoints are probably better placed... i have more problems to kill an eagle with my frag courier, than to kill an AspE.

frags are great, but not against eagles, sideys and adders because there cone is more spread out than the hitboxes of those ships are. for rank increase cnb farming i wouldn't recommend frags, while i love my all frag courier in haz res and combatzones. that's actually an inetersting turnaround. probably would even work with a longrange beam.

Hah, thanks! Jefferson was awesome (as far as I can tell, as a non-American 200 years after his time). Unfortunately Franklin's quote (if it's actually his quote; some people think it wasn't him) is more pithy for a signature than a whole biography.

Whom to you fly for? Did you know that the Alliance appears to be what Jefferson would have liked the most in Frontier's galaxy? Just wondering.

    Fly safe and free, Cmdr!
