With the arrival of our new insectoidal overlords humanity will have to prepare for the worst. How about a new set of missions - flying into areas of high risk Thargoid activity and dropping mines around. These might be around strategic locations in a system that has been threatened, or around derelict or damaged capital ships that need to be protected before salvage or rescue crews arrive. They could be kind of like conflict zones. Sporadically appearing in thargoid hit systems, various zones appear which need to be guarded, mined, or have big ships which need to assistance if you've got repair limpets.

Elite Dangerous isn't being made to the exact expectations of someone, so it is obviously more doomed than a man wearing a red shirt on the star ship Enterprise. Ok, so the company is a financial success and have even recently picked up a major project tied to an extremely successful film franchise, but that doesn't mean they're having success or anything. At least not until they start giving people their own factions or whatever in ED. Merely being a business that makes money won't cut it these days. Companies need to not make Planet Coaster at the same time as ED or not make Xbox/PS4 ports, or something. Remember; the true test of commercial success is not whether your company makes money and gives your employees personal satisfaction, it is whether it stops people moaning about not having their sense of entitlement instantly fulfilled because they're objectively correct about what makes a good Elite game.

That is a bit of an open question. I can afford about 180 re-buys with both my Cobras; but on about 18 with my FDL and Clipper.

Depending if it's actually broken or come out of it's keeper - it can be a 5 minute fix or a complete teardown.

I'll give him some on your behalf. I might as well spend my reps now before the forum is shut down due to Frontier being bankrupt and everything.

Patriot is 90ies technology and short range. Ballistic missiles are 50/60ies technology and pretty unreliable. We nearly nuked a highway because of wrong weather data (stuff the army don't really publish). On a 30mile shot. Over 1000 or 10000 miles missing an entire continent is not unlikely (and do you think Korea has the weather data to properly calculate a 1000 mile shot?). Whatever technology the Koreans have is 60/70ies Russian level and very little of it. Seriously, the threat of being able to shoot down anything they launch more reliably than they can launch it and them losing Chinese protection (China did commit to that immediately) is more than enough safeguard. That fire and fury talk of Trump is stupid and counterproductive on the international stage. That pre-emptive strike is against some treaties. His allies in the region cringe. His allies in the world cringe. All he does is endanger the people in the region and the goodwill of anyone involved. Korea has no 100 nuclear warheads....

I'm not entirely convinced that NK could reach as far as Pyongyang with a nuke, let alone Seoul, Tokyo, and especially not Los Angeles. The level of technical expertise required to launch a load of fissile material and detonate it at the correct moment in another country is something that is above and beyond the ability of most nations. But by the same token anti-missile missiles are something I'm also extremely skeptical about. I'm 41 with a fascinatingly good long term memory (a function of mental illness in fact), and I remember well the SCUD attacks on Israel in the 1990 conflict in the Persian Gulf against Saddam Hussein. The Patriot missile batteries were deployed at the time as a bone to Israel in an attempt to keep them out of the war, thus preventing it from becoming an anti-Islam war in the eyes of many nations in the region, but did not destroy a single SCUD. They claimed they did at the time, but the reality was different. Yes, technology has improved since then. But factor in the lag -...

That's for one of the defense systems - the Aegis. That's why you layer them and hope ze enemy doesn't send more nukes than you have counter nukes (the success rate of launches in NK is around 30-40% at best - the rest goes poof). If you want 100% security, you don't touch "ze nuklear". Every nuclear power plant has a small amount of risk for a GAU. Can't build them completely foolproof.

Even the best law systems are flawed. But what's going on in places like NK? It's just as banged up it can possibly gets.

Again, we're not talking about 5000 Russian missles or China's 260. Missle defense consists of PAC-3, THAAD, and Aegis. Just fire enough of them and it's more likely that one of the ICBMs explodes in NKs backyard than any of them reaching a target. ^^ And that's the worst case scenario Sunleader described that they actually use it for a first strike (which would remove China's protection, unlike an US first-anything, which would provoke it).

Nope. Economies don't care whether they're free market or centralist (since none are actually pure any of that). It's about ressources. If you waste ressources on no-ROI projects, you waste ressources. Wasting ressources at your own discretion requires an economy with significant surplus. Korea has none. You're buying into their propaganda. There's a certain amount of abuse people are willing to take. Then they revolt.
