Having to attack less well equipped players in an MMO to be able to get any frags was never called being a good player ;)

Yes, I'd really like this too. I don't want to be limited to 5-8 colors, like the weapon or engine colors. In particular, I want desaturated colors, so that means at least 2 sliders are required.

You can't, the 8 was probably a typo. A Cobra Mk3 running below minimum mass would require a 72.4% multiplier roll to reach 800m/s boost.

There's a good lore explanation for the sounds in the form of your ship generating them to help with situational awareness. Although I'd definitely like the option to disable them for the sake of atmosphere (or rather lack of).

I'd need to double-check in-game, but that looks worse than I remember on my GTX 980Ti system. I have a 4K monitor, so it's possible that the game is using a higher res bitmap on high res displays. It sounds like your problem isn't related to in-game settings. Try going to the NVidia Control Panel / Manage 3D Settings page and scroll down to Texture filtering - Quality. I have mine set to High quality. If you are using one of the "performance" settings, that might be your problem. Normal installations of the NVidia drivers usually preserve previous settings, so a driver install wouldn't normally change this setting and your problem could persist with new drivers. Also, I've had cases (in the past) where the settings aren't completely preserved and my tweaked "highest quality settings" have been reset to "performance" settings. I now always verify my video driver settings whenever I install NVidia drivers.

Couldn't agree more. Engineering is what makes my ships into my ships rather than "identical instance of ship model X #465423".

I would love to see expanded PvE crime. Smuggling in particular could be an amazing singleplayer experience.

You'd think trying to prevent humanity from developing effective weapons and defences against thargoids would permanently brand somebody as a traitor no matter where they went. Not even pirate factions (and similar) should be willing to harbour those who have betrayed their very species.

I don't care, as long as we can still pick exact shades rather than being limited to a few predetermined (and probably eye-searing) colours.

I said directly optional, as in a box informing you of the changes and asking whether you wish to remain pledged. Explorers and people who are far away from their PCs can't earn a merit. The notion of penalising players for not maintaining merits is laughable.

The BGS, PP and CGs don't belong exclusively to open players the way private groups belong exclusively to their owners. Solo, group and open players are all equally entitled to influence the game world.

Considering that a ship can take off and land on a planet w/o a docking computer, why should a DC require a slot AT ALL? A DC is simply a quality-of-life feature, unlike shields, weapons, etc., which provide a real in-game advantage. There is absolutely no good reason that a DC isn't included with any ship that can carry an SRV.

I have purple weapons and it looks quite nice. (I looked in my image folder for a screen capture, but couldn't find one.) I also have purple engines, which look great with my black paintjob.

The problem with PvP in Open, imo, is the lack of balance. For "proper" PvP, the game needs to be more like OverWatch: No rebuys, opponents should have similar power and defenses, so that it's a fair match. FD tried that with CQC, which was a good idea in principle, but completely missed the mark. Unfortunately, this imbalance causes me to avoid playing in Open, because the cost of losing my progress is too high. One thing that might help, would be to restrict instances so that they only contain "similar" ships, so it's a "reasonably fair" fight. That is, if you have an engineered PvP ship, you would only see other PvP ships with comparable (engineered) build outs. If you are in a wing, you'd only share an instance with other wings. If you want to be a pirate, you'd need to have some empty cargo racks in a ship that is suitable for trading and weapons suitable for disabling a ship, not obliterating it. Battles which last a few seconds aren't fun for at least one of the parties. Another...

Ouch! The mission quality depends a lot on the system state, not just your local reputation. I've spent months exploring, so I understand. I'm currently in the bubble, waiting for Thargoids (for a change of pace). I'm sure I'll head out into the black, one of these days, but I'm hoping that FD will greatly improve the exploration tools and I want to outfit them, before my next big expedition (although I seriously considered joining the Dead End's Circumnavigation Expedition).

Sure, there's risk and it is thrilling. There's nothing quite like the feelings you get when (stupidly) flying without a rebuy. (I try to avoid that, but I've done it a few times.) Another is returning to the bubble with months of exploration data in an exploration ship with tissue-paper shields. Generally, I try to avoid unnecessary risk, like flying in Open in a non-PvP ship.

That was exactly what I was going to suggest. Rep++ Even when I'm traveling around the bubble, I scan stuff, so I always have a cache of exploration data available, when I want to settle down for a while and do some missions. I also frequently donate cash to build rep. I'm a nomad and have great rep at numerous systems throughout the bubble. The current game behavior is fine, rep/trust should affect the quality of missions you are offered.

I'm hesitant to reply to this thread. The problem, imo, is the lack of balance. FD tried that with CQC, which was a good idea in principle, but completely missed the mark. While I like the OP's concept, I don't think it can fix the fundamental problems that currently exist in Open. For that matter, I don't think the proposed C&P will be sufficient either. Someone mentioned improving the authority ship response: Much faster response with weapons that are sufficient to engage over-engineered PvP ships. That could help. Unfortunately, these things are unlikely to tempt me to play in Open, because the cost of losing my progress is too high. One thing that might, would be to restrict instances so that they only contain "similar" ships, so it's a "reasonably fair" fight. Could have been one of the station patrol SLFs that crashed into your cutter and died? I have had close calls with their erratic flying before and routinely saw them bump against stations.

It's been a very long time since I used a hatch breaker, but I believe they do count as a weapon hit. An anarchy station will kill you if you attack a ship belonging to the same faction as it does, so there's a good chance that was the culprit.

My best guess is that you tagged a security ship, or just a passing NPC with the same faction as the station.

Don't forget to add a PvP flag, if we're going down the pure MMO route.
