    You literally throw anything to wall to see what sticks. That's how those huge SC pledge goals were created. As for shooting I just had very interesting discussion with friend this evening. We discussed how all games, especially massive online games, despite any good intentions ends up being shooting or hitting other entities with magic spear. Like it or not, that's what hits with most of *active* game playing audience. Of course, there are people who will like other aspects of your game, but most of them will instantly connect with pew pew and everything else will be boring to them. Major issue is that these big games, graphically and concept wise, take lot of time and money to develop. Thus those who actually pay will call the shots. Lucky is that developer who finds a way to add more than pew pew in a game and gets away with it.

    It seems like all the exploration-based passenger missions involve passengers who don't want to be scanned. So heatsinks are also useful for docking under the radar when carrying explorers.

    Same can be said of many aspects. I think the truth is closer to players not being able to adequately describe what they want. And the worse you can do with that is try to appease everyone. That's how you end up with major scope creep ;)

    It would be very cool to explore water worlds. This is easier to generate procedurally than an atmospheric world with lush forests. I don't mind if we can't go underwater. We could dock at cool bases above sea-level. Such as Tipoca City of the Kamino in Star Wars.

    I think you're right, but not just about the cloud in use. It's more likely to be about the canonical owner of player accounts, which are Xbox accounts and proprietary Elite Dangerous accounts owned by Frontier on PC. From what I can see, these are only shared on the first discovery field of each system, and I guess that these are just plain old text data without a reference back to the originating player account backend (consider the inability to query your first discovereds). If the gameservers used directly by sessions are indeed required to be on Azure for Xbox, then that's indeed a whole other world of pain to unify. Refactoring the player account model, taking into account different platform backends, their customer account models, and how those handle DLC and Game Extra purchases, would give the backend team no end of fun and games. I do something very similar in my day job.

    Ah, yes. Coop SQ42. The game fully funded at 6 million (BOTH games!). A huge universe.... i don't call 100 systems huge, but maybe ED has spoiled me. Oh, and modding, and private servers. I'm very curious when some of those things will arrive. Most curious where SQ42 has got to as well. The backers never voted for the scope of that to be massively expanded.

    You don't find painite, painite finds you. The somewhat randomness of mining is part of its charm. You generally get the hang how to increase profits with experience, but for a simple full load trip, each time you go out there will be different. Sometimes you return with a good amount of painite, others osmium and others palladium.

    Leaving high g's is easy; engage vertical thrusters, don't let go of the vertical thrusters, clear the surface, full throttle to forward thrusters, don't let go of the vertical thrusters, pitch ship to 90 deg while still at full forward thrusters, don't let go of the vertical thrusters, when you have reached maximum velocity, you can now let go of the vertical thrusters. Not before. That is how your ship leaves the planet when you dismiss it. Also using boost if you have it.

One of my top priorities is to endeavor to live as an inspired man -to see the world as fresh promise of the curious and strange; every morning the unexplored, wonderful and possible- even on those days where it seems nothing's going right.

Let's face it, we all like a good moan occasionally, yet there's a grand canyon of difference between moaning, and quietly acknowledging that yes, things are sometimes rubbish yet rolling our sleeves up and getting stuck in anyway and making the best of it. And moaning won't bathe the baby.

To paraphrase Churchill, True "Optimism is going from setback to setback with no loss of enthusiasm". I'm a lover of hot sauce and cookie dough. A Creator. I translate & polish written output others are unwilling or unable to do. I slice, I dice, I even make chips.

There are few things more exciting to me than finding out. One thing I do know, is that Travel is the fastest vaccine for "isms" ever devised. It's trite, but we're all the same really. I'm forever seeking the trail of the next adventure, big, small, foreign or domestic - even the next post code. I'd love to get a Eurail pass and hitch a trail across Europe. The Romance of a tooled leather-bound atlas has always held a certain appeal: faraway places with strange sounding names.

I've learned a few things out here in the world, though the greatest, most fascinating, most important thing I've learned is how much I don't know. Onward!
