    I'm sure this has been said before in this thread, but I'd like to say in the hope that Fdev reads this and maybe thinks twice before doing this type of event in future, I think this CG has been badly set up. Both of these CG's mix easily-obtainable commodities with difficult or time-consuming to get alien items - yet the CG format makes no distinction between submitting these items. Those people who are submitting Alien items are completely and utterly losing out compared to people who are simply making one jump to a neighbouring system and loading up on Explosives. It's over 1000ly to go get Guardian Relics (trip there and back to the closest site), in that same time you could have made dozens of trips supplying Explosives from literally the next system over. The same with Tharg items, because of the need to use Corrosion Resistant Cargo racks, you can only transport a few to the CG base.

    Na you're thinking about something different I think. The ones required by the CG's are just lying on the floor in the outer-most ring of the Tharg sites. They are the items usually requested by Palin from the random Obsidian Orbital missions, you don't need a UA or anything to get them - however they are RNG based since they sometimes just don't spawn at all. I've personally been to two sites today and one site just didn't spawn any of the required items and the second ony only spawned two in the whole site, and I've been to those same sites previously doing Palin's missions and there's been dozens of them lying around. So, either Fdev have inexplicably set up a CG for items that they've reduced the spawn rate for, or, the spawn rate is RNG based and I got unlucky today. Either way, this CG does suck giant Thargoid abdomens.

    The post you reply to was talking about Relics which aren't Tharg items, they are Guardian and are non-corrosive. So you could easily load up on them. But, it would take a looooong time to fill a Cutter since each Guardian Ruins site spawns only 3-5 (or so) Relics, and you need to shuttle them to your ship via SRV, which can only hold two, so it's maybe 5-10 mins work at least to clear the site. Even if you then re-log to refresh the same site (rather than flying several jumps to the next one, then having to land from orbit, etc), it would take a loooong time. Much easier to travel 1 jump to load up with explosives. It's extremely frustrating. I normally give Fdev the benefit of the doubt but this time I genuinely can't excuse it.

    No you're right, that's a good point. So it does maybe suggest that whatever the feds were doing to provoke an attack was pretty bad... eating Tharg babies? I hear they taste like... ammonia, I guess... The strangest thing about all this is that the only people to have been attacked prior to the "incident" in the recent video has apparently been the Feds. They must have been up to something.

    While I do sincerely respect the jobs of moderators, in some cases discussing Star Citizen is relevant in exactly the same way that discussing No Man's Sky or any other game that has Elite-like elements might also be relevant. No-one can deny that it bears relevance in terms of comparing game elements, and the posts I've seen here do mostly compare and discuss game elements that are specifically and directly linked to Exploration - i.e. planets, and the rendering thereof and the fact that SC may well look better, but it's not actually a game yet since it's still in development, those all seem very salient points to me. While I completely disagree with the Op, and not just what he's saying but the way he says it, I also respectfully disagree that discussion of those specific elements of SC should be off-topic in this case.

    Yeah I'm quite annoyed to be honest. I semi-RP Elite, and I only take part in CG's when my Commander would do, so I've only done ones relating to the Thargs or other mysteries and things since that what I love most about ED. Same as OP, I was thrilled to see another one asking for Tharg material and Guardian junk, I've been off to Guardian sites collecting Relics with a swing by the Tharg sites to collect 4 Tharg things to fill the corrosive resistant racks. Sadly though, it seems that the majority of people are just shuttling the explosives in from the adjacent systems, and of course you would, why wouldn't you do that? Why would yo travel 500ly to the Guardian ruins to scoop Relics in a laborious process when you can just travel 1 jump and fill up on explosives... It's a bit mental. While I'm not doing it specifically for the money, it's nice to have a good reward for travelling over 2000ly (2 trips to the Guardian ruins and back) and feel like I've contributed. IMO, badly thought out CG....

    I don't disagree OP in certain ways, and at first (when it was first released) I was very disappointed with ED because it felt like just a prettier but cut-down version of FE2, but I think the things that ED does better make up for the things it doesn't do as well as FE2 and FFE, and over the years Fdev are adding to the richness of the world and I see that continuing. I didn't enjoy the ship combat in FE2 and FFE and it was extremely hard/impossible to fly a ship in any meaningful way without the autopilot and associated things (albeit that was fairly realistic, it was mostly waiting while the autopilot took you places). Despite that I loved the games (well, FE2, I never played FFE at the time it was released) and put an insane amount of ours into it. I have both games even now and I play them occasionally, along with Oolite. ED has the "ship flying" part down to a fine art, the feel of things is awesome, the combat is great, the sounds are great. I think the rest will eventually catch up...

    All good points. I agree that having good AI is really important these days. I also like the emergent-style gameplay rather than just following POI's or floating arrows (one of my main issues with games like Skyrim is that the missions "depth" is completely erased by the fact that ultimately you just need to head towards the big floating arrow every time). I would really like it if Space Legs started quite small, but detailed and with depth, and they worked outward from there, rather than (like the rest of the game) started gigantic and empty and then they started adding detail.

    Lol yeah, I imagine conceptually it would be like us trying to figure out how to communicate with beings made of plasma flying around in ships made of molten lava breathing atmospheres of scorching hot gasses not dissimilar from the surface of Venus maybe.

    I guess it depends. Assuming Thargs are the insectile ammonia aliens that we think they are, then many frames of reference for them will be different from ours. It may be that they're trying to understand how to talk to a species that apparently lives in boiling atmosphere and flies around in scorching tin cans. +1 rep. LMAO.

    Yeah I get you about PVP, it's a good point, I do think the whole of PVP needs major rebalacing though, IMO it's not really done very well or compellingly. And I'm with you with the idea that too much hardship puts people off. I think having some cushion is the answer, but something you're not automatically granted. Personally I play exclusively in open, and that's a rewarding experience for me, but I can see that some people hate risking anything. I thought maybe something like, you get awarded a rebuy (like the current ones) from factions you have good rep with, so let's say you die and have Ally rep with Hutton Truckers, you get offered a 95% rebuy as part of your Ally status, but you take a big hit on that status for using it and have to grind it back up again. Maybe that's a sliding scale, with Cordial status being 0% rebuy, and Friendly being 45%, Ally being 95%, the closer to the top of the rep bar you get, the more they offer you.     I ran a minecraft server a few years ago for me and a few friends to play. I set up the game (with a bunch of cool mods we'd all agreed on) and we started playing. However, I just set up the game as I normally would, with some things I always use. One of those things increased the mob spawn rate and added lots of new ones in including very hard boss mobs and that sort of thing. Basically makes the game much more dangerous 'out in the wild' until you've made a safe area. Almost immediately... One of my friends started complaining that it was too hard and asked me to turn the difficulty down, he actually asked for all mobs to be removed from the game. One of my friends was annoyed by some of the mobs and sent me a list of mobs he wanted removed from the game. One of my friends thought the mobs were too hard, but quickly discovered ways to build things that excluded the mobs from the areas they spent time in, and so was fine.     I agree with your whole post. I've recently decided to never rebuy, and on every death I get myself a new sidey and have to buy all my stuff again and get in engineered again. It's been painful a few times, but it's made the game SO MUCH BETTER. Money suddenly has value again! It's gone back to feeling like decisions matter, and my ships aren't disposable immediately replaceable objects, they are meaningful like the Falcon is Han's Ship or Serenity is Mals or Lucy is Duch's. I would like the whole ship-death thing revisited as part of 3.0. I think there should absolutely be something for new players to remove the fear of trying stuff out, so maybe you get the cheap ship rebuy for your first 3 deaths (or 5 or something), it's like the Pilot's Federation insurance policy. As it stands, the current system works pretty well for new players, but it just removes a lot of the gameplay once you get into the game properly. I'd also like some more time around the death thing. Right now there's an awesome...

    Yes, AFAIK that's the official version, we (INRA) used the mycoid virus to eradicate their ftl ability. It was one of the multiple possible endings from FFE and is considered by Fdev to be the one that happened.

We already have EvE online, we do not need another game that's "just" about space ships. Please, please don't be close minded and refuse to accept that something new can also be something good. Give Space Legs and other similar "not space ship" game updates a chance to succeed. Be open minded, look to the future and see what the game can be, and help make that happen.
