    Its nothing to do with plans per se, but funding. They said they have enough materials they could add to keep developing (based on their estimates) for at least 10 years. This got twisted into the oft quoted "10 year plan" But it all depends on funding at the end the of the day. FD are a business, and DB has a passion for this game, but he needs to pay his staff to do the work. So, as long as FD keeps generating money, they can keep developing for 10 or 20 or 30 years... although the latter would be unlikely anyway, anything over 10 years is unusual in the gaming industry (with obvious exceptions). While we all want content to come quicker, there isn't much FD can do to make it happen. You can't just throw devs at a project to make things happen quicker without some form of impact, one of those being financial.

    I think the 'smoke and mirrors' nature of SC 'planets' is that they have the one and it's pretty because they can hand craft it to a certain extent. The trick them comes to maintaining that uniqueness across 100+ such worlds and the reality is that it will take them far longer to make 100 interesting worlds than it will take ED to make a universe of variation using clever procedural mechanics. At the end of it all they will have billions and I think this is something that CIG are starting to realise in that there is a wisdom in making algorithms generate planets and then working on them once they're at a certain level rather than trying to engineer them one by one.

    Hi there, You don't need any special equipment for tourist beacons, you just need the basic interrogation scanner that all ships come with as standard (The one where you select the target and stare at it for a few seconds). Thanks, Dom

    I think it's fine to bring people along for the ride but you manage expectations. You keep them informed as to what they're looking at and most importantly you don't waste time and money trying to polish a functional turd.

    My biggest concern is that there is no 'verse' to speak of. They have a multitude of separate dev threads all of which have to be made to work with the other, and then somehow shoehorned into a universe that doesnt exist! IMO they were painfully foolish to not follow FDs lead and build something to put stuff in rather than building a crap load of stuff and then make it all work together in something.

    Indeed not. The 1700 looks like a very good performance/price CPU. PC is mechanically built - lacking RX 480 (as it's in the PC i'm typing this on), a few more fans and the software installed to allow a seamless transition (i.e. so that I can go away on a business trip and not be blamed for "breaking" what is also used as the family PC).

    Maybe. But look at how even AC was barely (barebones, extremely buggy and seriously late) delivered in 2014, nevermind anything else. Look at the actual progress (i.e. in our clients) even with the extended scope after 4-5 years... and then just consider the possibility for a moment, what does your heart tell you? I just think the extra money made the dilemma much easier for him at the time.

    Hi all, What is the best way to plot a route directly towards a far off destination? I have been selecting the destination, then moving back to my current location, lining up the destination marker with my current location marker on the screen so that it's right in front of me, then use the W key to translate forwards. However, I'm having the distinct impression that I am not translating exactly forward toward my destination, but horizontally along the galactic plane? Is there a way to make sure I am moving through the galaxy directly towards my target?

    Hi there, Absolutely. The public facing builds don't support any of our trickery as the developer console is compiled out, so no god mode ingame. We could cheat progression by using the admin suite that support uses to help stuck players, but that would be... cheating... (Also it's audit logged on the live envronment, so not worth the risk).     My personal take is less devious. I just think CIG and CR simply were not competent enough to even deliver the original scope in the estimated timeline (i.e. 2014). They then simply used the extra money to rationalize delays by virtue of promising added scope and fidelity.

    That is a nice strawman though. I do not think anyone is blaming CR for not delivering the new scope by the old original kickstarter timeline. That is by the by. What some people are blaming CR about, among other things, is for changing the original promised campaign scope without any public apology or offer for refunds for it and for seemingly not being able to deliver this enlarged scope according to his own quality standards / promises and own estimated timelines, putting at risk the community´s 150+ million dollars all the while exploiting commercially the hype he has created and fosters in what could be considered reiterated and opportunistic false advertising.

    Maybe it's my OCD but when I'm in the Gunnary Chair, I've got no problem using the joystick for the X (Yaw twist) and the Y (Dive/Climb) but it does feel a wierd that I can't rotate mother ship so that it's level.
