A quick look at the Star Citizen's IMDb current page produces oodles of giggles. I don't know who provides those figures though.

I can't bring myself to watch their output live these days - I guess I'm all BS'd out. Just wait for the highlights to turn up here and elsewhere..

That's been around for absolute yonks :D A way of limiting player "activity" with a consumable "thing" to encourage strategic thought and guide action has been around since nearly day one. Wether it's fuel, energy or heartrate, whatever, it's certainly nothing CIG have invented. Who else remembers flying yourself to death in Thanatos, walking yourself to death in Dark Side, or even ECMing yourself to death in Elite? :D

The thing is though DS collates and comments on pretty much everything related to SC - I think he's said he's planning a book or something. So there is nothing we can talk about that he won't have covered somewhere or other. His talking about something neither validates or invalidates that thing. His opinions are just that his opinions - and that should be obvious to anyone. I really don't see any need to caveat anything just because Derek happens to have said something similar or opined about it in some way. Regarding the health system that apparently the avaocados are testing - the oxygen/effort heart rate thing - is this something that has been used in other FPS (I'm not very familiar with other games)? One of the complaints I've seen from some about FPS stuff is people running about like headless chickens all the time because when allowed that's the most effective way to get things done. So the players are all acting like they're on crack whilst the NPCs stand around gazing wistfully into...

I think with SC it's some kind of formula based on time of year, current funding shortfall & what they think they can get away with. There's no denying they've created an awesome money generating machine - the only question is how sustainable it is without serious, rapid and demonstrable progress.

Anyway - it's citizen con week isn't it? That ought to provide lots of fresh material as well as the "game changer"..

Well I wasn't party to the recent practically complete thing and I can only speak for myself but I certainly treat things derek says with more than a pinch of salt. He makes no secret of the fact he's out to wind people up - sometimes - which of course backfires when he wants people to take some of his claims seriously. "two weeks" and references to his July blog have long been a standing joke. Gievn his penchant for not using 10 words if he thinks he can get away with 10000 I don't read most of it anyway...

It really isn't - Derek - as you acknowledged above is nothing to do with CIG. If you want to see him pilloried and ridiculed check out the Goons thread on SA - who are according to Reddit simultaneously his minions and his mickey takers. He gets it pretty much every day there - sometimes he rolls with it and sometimes he doesn't - which also can be very amusing. But - he still isn't CIG and therefore isn't a target for CIG ridicule in this thread - beside which the Yaffle wouldn't allow it.

Does it really never occur to you that people referring to "Dr Smart" and utilising the phrase "Derek Smart was right" might just be using it as a trigger mechanism (which never fails it seems). His name has become a killing word!
