ZeeWolf replied to a thread COBRA v2 in Dangerous Discussion
Is there a specific reference to the Cobra engine itself restricting development in some way? Saying something is tricky to implement isn't the same as saying that the engine itself is restricted. Software APIs and engines are just large applications that can be redeveloped as and when is necessary. More likely you just don't have enough information to fully appreciate the issues. When I worked in the games industry Direct 3D and Direct X were two separate things, they probably bare little...

VPN's - while handy - don't solve the basic problem of physical distance, increase the problem of logical distance, add their own latency, and some ISP's routinely run VPN traffic through the slowest and longest backends they can find - or make it disappear entirely.

Do you have a source on how many people and how much time it takes for them to make the cosmetic packs? Can you show that, had those skills been applied elsewhere, other aspects of the game would be substantially better? I'm guessing the answer is no, simply because none of us here are privy to that sort of information. What we can do is to make inferences such as someone who makes cosmetic packs probably isn't going to have the skillset that's required to, say, fix bugs or do a balance pass.

The fact that IT. IS. A GAME makes no difference. Book, Movie, TV series, or Game, when it violates it's own internal logic and rules, it breaks the willing suspension of disbelief. When you add a device to a universe that makes the plight/journey/activities of the main character pointless, then you've really cocked up your setting.

If they said they were re-doing TIE Fighter in VR and then gave us the unholy abomination that is Rogue Squadron or Battlefront or any other of a overflowing cornucopia of awful Star Wars games :)

Even something like the TIE Fighter Collectors edition version given a HD makeover, better bitrate speech and non-MIDI music and optimized for VR headsets would be a terrific experience :D No need to change anything major - keep the underlying game, story, missions etc - just make it slightly more friendly for modern expectations and it'll be a winner :) Of course, going for a full-blown TIE fighter VR experience could lead to all sorts of wonderfulness :) It could, given the appetite of modern...

I assumed when people say retro they mean in relation to CR's older games where much of the screen was blotted out by stuff. Someone mentioned the Constallation as a glass cockpit. Looks a pretty awful view to me. https://youtu.be/Btj9VbDt0m0?t=441

The issue with Telepresence, yes. Though Telepresence is not my only issue with the game.

I do. It's an explanation that adds nothing to the game, except massive loop-holes. No explanation is given to the recovery from a destroyed ship, I see no reason why Telepresence is needed.

I'm sorry, I can no believe that in a civilsation where telepresence exists like Multi-pew claims it does, that manned space flight exists. Not Manned exploration and sure as hell not manned space combat. No, Telelpresence does nothing buy harm the core attraction to the game, for the sake of explaining a minor feature of it. A feature that (in my estimation) will die faster than CQC.

I think Scrum is good when you are trying to ship something. If you're not getting quality that's down to your definition of done, and your team's ability to re-evaluate perhaps, like any process it can go wrong but that's not indicative of Scrum although it might not be right for some teams. Since CR says he doesn't want to worry about ticking clocks and crunching perhaps Kanban would be more appropriate...Or just weeing in the wind with crowd funded cash. You would think having a plan would be very...

Agreed. Season 2 has been far more valuable than season 1. Power play, CQC, and "ships". Lol. Wings, I've used once, and Community Goals are .... Just a massive co-op grind imho. Season 2, for it's faults, is still way better than 1. Except telepresence. In my opinion that's one addition that makes the game worse.

You do need some level of adversity and risk to make it engaging though, and FP combat is the most common way of doing that. Without any risk of death, there's no challenge for the player and Space Legs will quickly become a pointless time-sink. See X-Rebirth for a perfect example of how to do it wrong. Space legs needs a level of vulnerability. When going outside to fix hull breaches (say) then you should have limited oxygen, limited RCS and have to deal with radiation damage (for example). Now going...

Spending money on cosmetics is one thing - as mentioned it's completely voluntary, pretty cheap and less expensive than a beverage :D However, I really detest pay-for-gameplay with an absolute passion - that entire business model needs to suffer in a cold, dark, lonely place.

I'd do this for anyone in the same situation man or woman, so never-mind what she says or her chip on shoulder 3rd wave postmodern gobbledegook feminisms, keep doing it, it's merely basic consideration.
