I guess it's possible distance to target has an effect .. but only a stopwatch knows for sure? Not something I've noticed either way personally. Felicity Farseer has three blueprints for DSS .. fast scan, long range and wide angle. Doesn't mean distance to target doesn't have an effect too though ... edit -- There's actually a lot of fun to be had in doing experiments like this, with stopwatch. People have done all sorts of weapons versus shield tests (turn off report crimes against me!), ship heat / cool characteristics .. and I did one on the powerplant fusion system, which it turns out uses 22.2 grams of Hydrogen per second to generate 1 MW. So if you do this experiment, let us know? o7

Linux is very usable for common folks. They choose to look over the choice because most of the time they don't want one. That's all I wanted to say. Nothing about you personally (sorry if that came out that way).

Toggle Headlook .. binding is under 'mode switches' in the controls menu. (Don't know what system you use but I think default binding for keyboard + mouse is to click the <mouse wheel button> to toggle headlook on/off). By the way .. in your first post, hitting L is <default> for toggling ship lights .. not landing gear! Default binding for landing gear .. is K There's a HUD indicator light btw, for checking if landing is gear up or down, under your fuel gauge.

You can disable the pre-flight check .. in right panel, functions tab again. Hang on, need to look up where the headlook controls are in the menu

You need 'headlook' mode .. this disconnects your controls, and allows you to move your head independently. Orienting around rotating stations does take a bit of practice. Generally speaking the entrance 'more-or-less' faces the planet but (what works for me is) .. as you look at the docking slot, the station ALWAYS rotates in a counter-clockwise direction (zero throttle engines and watch the station's rotation for a second)

Hmm. Weird. Can you confirm in the control settings that L is set to 'toggle' landing gear? (some keys you have to hold down). You can test if landing gear is working at all, I believe by deploying manually in your right panel, functions tab ... ?

Frontier are careful because there's danger making promises in case there's a problem with code and they have to cancel, after promising. They also get sales from making announcements big, at trade shows (Gamescom, EGX) and to journalists who can reach many people with big news (when it's ready). But (small example); When Holome started, a girl on forums wanted longer hair for female character. There was a big fight on forums, some say yes, some say no. Frontier said .. nothing .. but now (2.4) there are longer hairstyles. Frontier listened and worked in silence .. but they DID do that work. I believe Frontier are invested in ED. They have new offices, new Chinese investors and a huge country of potential new players there, new platforms, PS4 etc. It also makes good sense for them to develop ED with financial security behind them (that's money in the bank, not borrow + variable interest rates). ED is very (very) playable. It can be more, and step by step is becoming more .. but the best way your...

For you, yes, for others? Don't mind what other people do in the game, and you will be a much happier person, yes? Elite is not a game that is about competition with other players. As long as you are happy with YOUR story, doesn't mean that others have to do the same, right?

I have to agree... I find it way more fun with the "Open mode challenges"; Who will make the most money in one hour?

I am pretty sure those payouts are a bug, or intended, for the beta. If they are intended for the beta, there are things yet to be told from FD. That said, I am pretty sure it is a bug. In the main game, the best Passenger mission I've got was to transport a person 40LYs (Allied with the faction), giving me 3.4 mil credits.

A lot of assumptions in one post. The good thing with Elite: Dangerous is that the game teach you about thinking things through, evaluate and then make a choice, that can be very strategic as well as the opposite, depending on the outcome of that choice. Never seen a game putting me into such a position, to this extent, before. I don't mind that people can bypass some ships within their progress. And why should FD do that? If you are a seasoned veteran in terms of Elite, your experience and knowledge about the game, should allow you to much quicker get into an Anaconda compared to somone who is very new to the game. As someone that holds 5 accounts in this game, I can certanly attest that the game is very true to that; it took me more than a year to get into an Anaconda with my first account. Mostly because I did not visit this forum much, even more so that I didn't follow the game at all, with all the web-based tools that exists. Primarily reason was the fact that I did not know the game enough. I...

Ohh, it was dismissive, because I AM THAT 30-40 year old. I don't want this game to carter to me, dance around me and offer me to investigate Thargoid ruins nearby. Yes, I want some more interesting bits to discover. Yet, I find existing structure interesting enough to lose myself for few hours when I can sit down and play. Fact is - if you can't enjoy it, stop it. And stop justify it with 'everybody else suffers too'. No one cares. Just stop it, turn off computer, go outside. World, it is still there. I recently enjoyed a lot time from PC. Have changed my perspective completely.

PG content would be laughed upon and ignored. Because it would be PG and not unique. You can make missions as interesting as you want - if you can't save princess which in turn flips system from Feds to Imps, it just won't be enough.

You have strong lack of understanding how long actually some of these things took to develop. CQC was developed by team of 12 people with exclusivity of XBO console players in mind. MC is just a demo for avatars. Code wise it can't do none of those things because code wise it is just another year to even do foundations for that. I could agree on PP but as far as I know, PP is played by few, and looked upon by many, that's why FD decided not to prioritize it. As for 'actual functioning economy' FD has one, but majority of sales are done by NPC simulation (yes, ED have actual economic goods cycle), and we skim off the surface. As for galactic stock market you would have to be more precise because I doubt anyone here wants to play 'Investor 3303'.

That's not how game was designed in mind. That's why FD intentions and yours heavily clashes. But it is tried and boring subject matter because I don't want to call anyone "wrong". It just does not work like that. They enjoy min-maxing and owning things. I don't find it escapism, but virtual training for real life, thus boring.

Not sure I can agree it's universal. It really depends on what kind of software it is, what kind of APIs and libraries it is using, how well it is done (C isn't really platform neutral, it is just a language), also how good support and how many resources company have put into making multiplatform support stick. For example, I have seen software development in crossplatform in mind having no issues on Linux but having huge pain in backside for relic Windows versions. But number game I think it is what ends up making it faint possibility.

I think they could sell 20 - 30k copies for sure (most successful games like CivV have broken that number of Linux). But I guess they would want 200k ballpark to even talk about it. I don't expect them to do miracles - after all, they gotta eat, software development is difficult and expensive, and in the end, David share control over company with other investors - that's why I play around with Wine.

Conservative calculations put that number on 200 - 300k a week. Number of players at same time online does not work like that for Elite, it's player base logs at different times and weekdays.

If their only goal they seem as worthy is to get ships, they will obsess over to get ships and will want to skip everything else. It is pathetic, but there's seems to be strong trend of 'owning things' being reason why people play games. Don't ask me why.
