So since Herbrand has excused themselves, would you or anyone else be interested in some fieldwork gathering multichannel recordings of Elite output? I can't offer much besides forum Reputation as I'm clean out of Modular Terminals... No particular equipment needed, just a little time. In Elite, set Audio to DTS; Headphone X off and Full Range off Install VoiceMeeter Banana and run it Set 'VoiceMeeter Input' as the default windows audio device In Windows playback devices, 'Configure' Voicemeeter Input and set it to 7.1, all channels, no Full Range speakers In VoiceMeeter, set output A1 (above the tape deck) to your usual windows default audio device Right click the tape deck to open recording properties Click the Post Fade/BUS A1 radio button to record what's going to that output

We've got our wires crossed here, and it was my fault. I was using the specific term 'LFE out' but meaning 'Sub out'. I don't have any equipment with a separate 'LFE out'. So we can stop worrying about whether I'm barking up the wrong LFE tree - i'm supposed to be using the same frequencies as a subwoofer! The ButtKicker docs recommend using Sub out where present in a surround setup: https://thebuttkicker.com/content/BK-GR2_QSG.pdf And yeah, I read the Dolby link, but after making the post you are replying to :). No worries, now that I spent all yesterday staring at frequency analysers I'm pretty sure that this is just how the game always does it, absent some hidden state in the game or its audio middleware.

Just saw this edit. Thanks for that Dolby document! We're talking semantics at this point, because irrespective of whether the channel is called Sub or LFE, it contains frequencies around between 5 and 200Hz that can feed either a sub or an LFE. I may have started this by naively referring to this channel as LFE to sound better informed, but as it's the only thing we can use to drive our Subs/Buttkickers (in a surround setup), the labelling isn't significant. Like a sub, a BK can't use anything above 200Hz. Both of us have confirmed that our sub/BKs are doing nothing except on hyperjump. The Dolby PDF does say this useful thing, though: "Consumer Dolby Digital products that reproducemultichannel sound must combine the LFE channel in the proper acoustic mixingratio with the bass from the other channels for proper reproduction". While this is stated in the context of Dolby encoding, which isn't necessarily in use here, the statement holds - the bass frequencies should be combined and sent to the...

This is what I've just added to my Support ticket: I am now mindful of what GlobusDiablo said about subjective experiences and having all the bass he could ever want (from his presumably very capable surround speakers), and wondering what the difference would be if the bottom 100Hz of the surround channels were being mixed to his LFE channel. I've done this in post using Voicemeeter and the wub-wub-wub-wuuurp of a station forcefield or firing a large multicannon are lovely to behold (via my butt). While it's not necessary for my VR, Headphones + BK use case, I fear that if this the general situation, all the surround sound speaker users are missing out on the action.

I never had issues with OP - I understand their frustration. I just wonder how we proceed overall with non-player changes in BGS. Let's say minor factions in general become more active, even those without player indirect steering. What then? I am also not having big stake in this one. Just curious how we would like to proceed there.

Accept that sudden changes might come? I am not saying this is good example of that, but you know, don't get too salty because oyu come one day and turns out story has turned your system into sea of pain.

Hand of God was actually pitched during KS and you can say it has been even one of their promises :) Yes, I am all about more subtle ways to influence from FD as grand GM of the game. And I guess this specific case is just honest mistake and overenthusiastic cleansing of CG backlog. And in the end of the day I don't want ED to be EvE clone, players influence groups they are created in-game by FD, not they own them - because they bear too much power for players to have. Squadrons will be more of that vein that could work in ED universe.

I am not saying FD can't improve here, or they dropped the ball - they seemingly did, and I hope Brett will give us some update. I am just wondering will it be like this from now on - people being upset for any challenge coming from BGS that they can't control? I would hate FD being lock out from their own game, not being able to make interesting changes to challenge grindy ownership of 'player influenced minor factions'.

Well for games without other teams programmers really can't do much though. For other types of software coding is having more important role. But well, for summary - all people working on game ED are important. I guess in the end lot of people raise these questions with idea that if FD would throw all their workforce to ED we would have space legs by now. That's not exactly true. Nor it would be financially sound investment.

Why only how we play the game? What about external challenges?

Reading other posts though start to feel like giving players minor factions might be wrong idea of long run, because it does not allow for FD to do interesting things with BGS. Because when 'ownership' takes hold in people's minds, you get salt mines like this. Yeah, definitely not only yours. What about thousands of NPCs living there?

I might be a shiny white knight for FD, but I don't think in this case devs can do anything without upsetting anyone. Also I would vote against such 'don't disturb' approach against player backed minor factions. But I would prefer less direct intervention and less originally grown out of situation challenges. Question might be however if they can do better with their GM role? FD do care bout player groups and Brett is aware of situation and will post update. No need for protest, because there's no conflict.

It is silly, because actual code crunching is small part of development, and most likely most straight forward/less costly one. QA? Support? Server support? For ED having reliable people in these positions are make or break, because it is not fire and forget game. Design? Art? Modeling? Sound design? You know, all things that actually make ED....ED?

I guess question more is this - why are you so obsessed with idea that ED is dying and FD has given up on it? You know, you are allowed to not like ED. You are allowed to strongly dislike it. You can leave. If you will turn out right in the end, and we had have fun for 3 years just because...wow, sucks to be us I guess. You know that there's world outside yours? Much bigger one? Where things don't 'die', or no one wins really. It just moves...on.

Can anyone explain this specific obsession over how many developers at FD work on game? It is not like they are your slaves, employees or something. If you don't believe when FD saying ED is their priority, and they are throwing their best minds at it - fine. But why then it is so important how many developers there are?

  9. It is ages old nick of my name Peter localized version, and with first letter of surname. So pronouncing it would be rather difficult Pecis K maybe?
