Wonder what the average age is by comparison .. though not a cultural difference, either necessarily, only a demographic one unless you count yoof .. as a cultcha, grandads. I know the console section of forum is more 'half glass full' than other sections have been at times (but then PC was platform for game alpha and the most basic game at first release). Still a good attitude to have though.

That's superb. First I've heard about the 16,000Ly trip (how remote is that!) so props to these two. Cheeky devils, I would kill for a tour of NASA. I'm calling Simon Cowell .. Karaoke on Chiron? .. anyone? :D

True that. I don't think the OP is asking if one format is 'better' than the other That's been done to death = who cares anyway and elite! OP's asking whether there are 'cultural differences' .. I'm going to take a stab at "chairs". Commander's of the jury, I give you .. Exhbit A A 50/50 typical, ED PC player ('s dream woman) Notice the pencil, posture, and the way her blouse gently loosens at her wrist in a .. I digress.

Congratulations on your progress Commander and here's to the future, Cobra is THE iconic 33rd century ship, you're going to love it. The Discovery Scanner is finding planets marked Unexplored for you? You can get more info without needing any more equipment .. target the planet and fly direct towards it. It has limited range so watch it but the passive scanner (fitted to all ships that works on Signal Sources too) will give Exploration Data on the planet (it's name and surface map). Detailed Surface Scanner is the advanced version of that passive scanner. It works in the same way (target and fly toward planet) but gives more detail on materials composition, and a bonus when selling as Cartographics data. Also, in populated systems, scanning the Nav Beacon (drop on it and target the white blip) wll also give basic explore data, without having to scan each planet. Great to hear you're enjoying yourself. Keep us posted .. and good luck! o7

Another game called Evochron Mercenary (and currently Evochron Legacy) does this already. All within 512MB of game. Yes, it fits into a 1GB SD card if you want :) You can launch from any station, point your ship in the direction of the destination, and just engage your engines. You don't need to jump, you will reach your destination eventually. Players of that game have done this years ago, and their legacy lives on in the forums over there. I actually met one of those players online... he doesn't even own a jumpdrive, says it takes up space. He gets around everywhere on standard newtonian physics.... Of course jumping gets you there quicker.

Just a short summary of my overly long post over at the Hardware forums.... I was torn between the Thrustmaster 16000 HOTAS and the X52 Pro. Then I came across a couple of posts mentioning "wrist aches" with the Thrustmaster. So I went with the X52 Pro. A couple of comments in my thread also had people saying the wrist aches is a real issue for some people.

No. 1) I am not a combat pilot 2) I don't think it is a good idea to wage war towards something we know very little about 3) I hope to interact with them in a peacefull manner

Nope... It is just an endurance test. Being Elite in any of the 3, is just Endurance. EDIT: The only one of the 3 that could meassure Competence, would be PvP Combat. But since Combat rank is not related to PvP, it is still just an Endurance meter. Nothing more, nothing less.

:) All I am saying is that it would be a good idea to have a CG in memory of the dude, even if I never listened to them. I think the idea is a great one. We need more CGs; since most of them tends to end 3-4 days early.

Hehe... as if the previous record/ship was anything other than only good for making a record jumprange in one jump? :)

Welcome to your new ship(s) CMDR. With initial reactions like this, I feel this sub-forum has the essence of what gaming/sims forums should be and much like the feeling in the 80's and 90's as the main boundaries were pushed in 3D gaming and people were seeing new virtual frontiers for the first time.

*sigh* Do you remember the Community goal that was built around a fellow CMDR who lost his father? Or, the recent Community Goal that will create an Asteroid Base, named after one of the CMDRs that formed that player group?

Elite: Dangerous would be a very dull game for me, if Combat rank would become a thing to unlock ships. It is a bad idea, OP.

To me, the difference is simple. One plays when sitting on a couch, the other one plays in a home-made cockpit :D

Think you'll be alright .. though stay frosty. Biggest massive change is probably the debug camera .. which is now a whole camera suite, and takes some setting up; thread here Other than that I think you'll probably be OK following your nose. o7

Ah yes like religions. Well my religion is the "vacuum" one... the air flows in from the front and escapes from the back. Just makes more sense to me. Plus I see it everyday on the servers I work on. The guys that made these servers, they must surely know a thing or two about airflow cuz these servers hardly ever go over 25C :)

Oh there's a way to turn them off? :D I never bothered. I like having them on. At least then I can see that I'm "moving" when the lines move. Otherwise I'm just seeing numbers on the screen counting down to signify I'm nearing an object. The lines serve a secondary purpose for me... to see if my joystick deadzones are working :D

Have you tried copying one of those VCRUNTIME140.dll into the Tobii directory, just to see if it works? As for it being unable to detect ED, I think only Tobii support can help you. I remember at one time in the past they deliberately locked out game editing so that people wouldn't use one game to activate tracking for another.

Or Sys_Fan1, Sys_Fan2 etc. Not necessarily.... Even though I know how to, and can build my own, I'm a lazy guy by nature. So I just pay the "set up charges" ($20) at the store for them to put everything together for me :D I do enough of this at work already so I'm not gonna "work" some more on my own PC... My current case had the fans all blowing into the case. I had to "reconfigure" the rear fan, and flip it around so it'd suck air out. I removed the one on top completely. I just let the ambient hot air rise naturally out if it's not caught by the rear fan.

  8. It is ages old nick of my name Peter localized version, and with first letter of surname. So pronouncing it would be rather difficult Pecis K maybe?

Thanks for the rep! Your seven green blobs seem to add 7 rep points. Or is it 16, like below? BTW how to pronounce 'Pecisk'?
