Hi! Sounds to me like NPC ships are dropping heat sinks. They usually do this when firing an SCB (or hot weapons) pushes their temperature to a critical level. Once a heat sink is deployed, their core temperature will drop to near zero and (like player ships) they'll drop off sensors for a bit. :) Be assured, they don't use Silent Running. I've tested that here and it's just a bit too mean... ;) Should also add their heat sink ability (like a lot of things) rises with their rank, so the higher the rank, the more you'll see this.

Hi all, I will also post this in my cockpit build thread, but thought it might also be useful here. This is a video on how I designed and made a pair of sensor mounts that sit on my (now redundant largely) monitors, using Fusion 360 and my recently acquired 3D printer: If anyone wants the Fusion 360 or Cura files to base their own off of let me know (I might post them in the video description for download as well).

I'm not surprised. I tried one (Rift and Vive actually) at Elitemeet in the Spring .. am-a-zing. Had not anticipated the depth perception, just thought the picture would move with your head! Some day, one day, Commanders. +1 o7 OP. Link a pic of your (no doubt) grinning face, rift on, when the postman has been by? :D

Uhhh... nope? Doesn't happen for me. Unless I lose concentration on my flying/driving, and didn't take note at how fast the ground was coming towards me... then yeah I'd crash :)

See? :D Build a mining rig but only dig beyond the bubble edge in unexplored space? (Get to know your geologies, explore like a surveyor and fight pirates, all in one go) Go pirating yourself, somewhere off your own turf? (If you're a Fed attack Imperial Traders, and vice versa). Become a Doctor and trade only with systems with medical emergencies or famines (Or attack traders, in systems only in medical emergency or famine, mwihaha). Shoot some security vessels and see what happens. Try to beat the Jump Range record? Try to find, and kill, Harry Potter?

Grab an Eagle, make and overcharge load out with 0 jump range and start intercepting wanted ships around your system? (works like patrol sorties because reloads / repairs). Can also consider dropping in on every USS you see in it, no matter the threat level. Also enjoy scavenging in SRV myself. Pretty relaxing, might climb a mountain or just pick up what you find while working on your drifting skills. If you happen to find escape pods .. maybe consider burying them at sea, by dropping them into a star?

You can get a permit for the Sol system by gaining Petty Officer Rank with the Federal Navy. You can land on many planets in the solar system but not Earth because it has an atmosphere, not Mars because it has atmosphere too (has been terraformed in the timeline of the game) .. and not the Moon unfortunately yet, because it's a special.

I too think the OP's idea woild be great. The ability to reply to NPCs would be even better... like when a bandit pulls me out from SC and demands cargo, I could say "OK! I GIVE UP" or "Eat my space dust, bandit!" In a similar game such as X3, normal NPCs have just 3 options - 2 for asking where a specific type of station is, and 1 for "SURRENDER!". Even with such a limited set of questions, it makes the NPCs of that game seem more "real" being that they can reply you in various ways - "I don't know" or "it's at <location>", or "NEVER~~!!! I would rather die!" or even "You are beneath me for a reply to that question". But I'm guessing if these are done, then NPC "Wingmen" (one of those features in the DDFs) would be near - cuz then the conversations could be easily expanded to "I wanna hire you for <x> credits" and "protect me", "attack my target" etc.
