    For precisely the reasons you pushed and the ones you didn't anticipate, online requirements for non-MMO games are complete deal breakers for me. Fortunately, I've always seen ED as an MMO. If I was looking for a single player or private server/LAN experience I wouldn't have touched this game with a ten foot pole after offline mode started to seem unlikely. If it needs an internet connection, but I'm not playing with other people in some significant manner, the online component is generally just a form or DRM that prevents meaningful modifications while allowing the publisher to attempt to extort more money after the fact.

    Shield are almost pointless on a Sidewinder when you can push more than 800 hull without engineering and ~1300, +40% resists, with room for an MRP with engineering. Even for a trade ship, the smallest HRP is worth three or four shield collapses of damage. Even just bulkheads are sufficient protection.

    Could well be a rounding error in the FPS display as 60Hz is more often ~59.94Hz in reality. Would need a frame time counter to get a clear picture of the situation.

    By what metric? My CMDR's personal narrative is barely influenced by Thargoids. He's taken a look at them, decided they aren't really much of a threat, and gone back to business as usual. The only in-game evidence that Thargoids are a serious threat to humanity are sensationalized Galnet articles and a handful of wrecked ships/stations. Actually running into them has shown me that Pilot's Federation members are often vastly more dangerous, and far more widespread. It's not the players' or CMDR's fault that Thargoids don't scare them into cooperation when they are depicted as largely passive and often not risky to engage.

    Going to pull the shield gen and SCBs off my vette and see how she does against NPCs with just more HRPs and class 7 repair limpets...will probably try to avoid fighting more than one CMDR at a time without a shield gen though...

    Turning off thrusters is a fairly common way to prolong SR time; they have no boot-up delay, so it's easy to get underway when you need to.

    Before I moved away from one of North America's few bastions of actual civilization (you can tell it's civilized when there are discarded needles in the parks and it smells like sewage all the time, but the 100Mbps fiber costs less than the coffee) I used to stream once in a blue moon. I just set such a massive delay in OBS that by the time the few people that watched my streams (90% sure they were all stream snipers, cause no one else cared) made it to where I was, I was already waiting for them with a different ship.

    My sense of fair play compels me to click Open. I'm pretty sure I anger all sorts of people, and they deserve their shots at my CMDR, if they can find him. This sort of events will certainly discourage some (and encourage others), but illustrating potential risks (rare as they are, if you aren't live streaming), and showing that anything, within reason, goes in Open, is far better than presenting it as the mode for every taste and letting those who are overly offended by the possibility of such interactions find out about them the hard way. No argument here.

    If I had just been using normal, every day irony you would have probably caught it. As it was, my irony module is modded to g5 with some god rolled secondaries so it went sailing over your head.

    Ah, but I'm after an immersive, high-verisimilitude experience. My CMDR doesn't know his reality is a game and he doesn't treat it like one. See the statement of Braben's in my sig. As long as victory is achieved via player who are playing by the rules, I don't really care about anything else. I get as much satisfaction from surviving this... ...that's two SDC wings, consisting of three FAS, three Clippers, and an FDL...

    I use three turrets on my PvP corvette, for several reasons: - The huge and small hardpoints converge with a very tight pattern which makes them ideal for the fixed beam lasers and cascade rails that are my damage mainstays, but the medium and large hardpoints are relatively far from this grouping. - We only have two triggers, which complicates running multiple disparate weapon types, unless some can aim and fire themselves. I use my triggers for my rails and my fixed beams, while the turrets are placed in fire groups with these weapons as needed. - Turrets set to fire-at-will can instantaneously reacquire and resume firing after being hit with TLB. - Turrets set to fire-at-will can fire on multiple ships at once, which is very useful when fighting more than one CMDR as it tends to discourage them from running zero pips in SYS. - Turrets in general can engage targets independently from other weapons. - Turrets minimize the time agile vessels can stay out of one's firing arc, often to near zero.
