Play open, there's instancing things anyway so it shouldn't be too crowded and if there are people, look at making friends and don't worry too much about progress the first day or two.

What are these consequences everyone keeps banging on about? All I've seen is a tweak to the bounty system, in a game where you can it seems legitimately exploit your way into millions of credits with minimal efforts. I dont think thats going to deter anyone :/

I suspect that it will be more than a brokerage. It will probably also house actual exploration missions like: Scan X number of ELWs Scan X ammonia worlds Scan the missing data core from the lost alien research expedition Find and scan an undiscovered black hole / Neutron Star Locate X material sample of Y alloy on planet Z Etc

Exactly! This change adds danger where danger is due. Killing other players should be dangerous. And the consequences are only really felt if you get killed. So the better you are, the less this should be an issue. And someone is really worried about it, then they can stop just short of killing and let them escape with 1% hull.

Try it with Performance graphics. If the Xbox One version doesn't have such screen tearing then it must be fixable on PS4.

By this logic no one would know what an exploit is until Frontier decide it is one after the fact. Exploits are generally gaining an advantage or progression in a way that was not intended. There have been so many cash making exploits over the years, of which Frontier did diddly squat about, that makes their claims they dont tolerate cheating laughable. I'm pretty sure task killing/pulling the plug to avoid a loss is an exploit, much like the various credit ones too. Whilst its nice to see Frontier finally start addressing this, I can understand the confusion amongst players. And if they are going to be tackling exploits such as the engineer rolls then they should also address the others. So perhaps they should remove all the credits people exploited and give those folks a week ban for good measure. I suspect the reason they havent is because so many people have been at it. That all said, perhaps if the game wasnt such a tedious grind people would be less inclined to do so.

Given that most people had a false sense of insecurity before (PVP being more rare than Thargoids) maybe their level of confidence in their day to day safety in Open will end up being more realistic.

I'm talking full on murder rampage. My name will be reviled from one end of the galaxy to the other. Company would be very nice. Yep, rewards would be nice but I'm getting that Fdev can't see beyond punitive actions. And is it any surprise, really? Expecting them to implement gameplay is a fools errand.

On that last point, yes it's really what the game is lacking - a whole set of features around being a wanted criminal. Why would criminal gangs want to work with know goodie two-shoes or bounty hunters? I want to see crime result in being offered mission and rep with criminal gangs, and access to more black markets.

Be nice if they applied this strategy to all exploits. Strikes me as being selective considering all the credit exploits that go on. Lets not forget those who combat log too.

Yes, I agree here. I see no evidence that Fdev is listening to PvPers. Unfortunately, the recent Godroll Gate did little to improve that relationship.

Christ almighty. So you're effectively saying that it just doesn't matter what other people think. "I'd rather in dump my load 30 seconds" is your basic argument. There is nothing beyond the end of your *nose, it seems. Some things take time, and some things are better savoured over time. If you just want to shotgun that bottle of single malt, that's your choice. No. You're reaching really hard to justify holding on to a generalisation when there is no evidence to support its universality. I've stated, on more than one occasion, that your opinion is perfectly valid. However, I've suggested (again, on more than one occasion) that your opinion is not a universal truth. Your opinion is ultimately meaningless, however. As is mine (although I do have a leg to stand on.)

I've already addressed this point. Please read my post again. Again, this has already been addressed. To reiterate, you're not the arbiter of fun for anyone else, and you're pissing in the wind if you think you're not using entirely abitrary criteria for determining what other people enjoy. Nice. Your strategy for dealing with dissenting opinions is to repeatedly invite those who hold them to leave the conversation. I would surmise that you're not the high school debating champ. In other words, you're not even wrong.

I don't know - I've never played Skyrim. If I've put 3,000 hours into a game, one might be inclined to suspect that I enjoy it. Have I got more than 45 hours of enjoyment out of E:D? Of course. Do I believe E:D to be a better game than GTAV? Absolutely. There simply must come a point when the available facts undermine your opinion to the extent that you have to change it; at the very least you have to begin to suspect that different people like different things. Your opinion is valid, in that only you can be the arbiter of your opinions, but you're basically pissing in the wind if you think that you're somehow "right" in a non-arbitrary way. That's nice. Perhaps you can explain to me why I should care.

I suspect you're doing something wrong. I took me two hours to get more than enough Painite for Ms. Jean. Try Tjupali 7 (IIRC). It has pristine rings around a planet whose rotation is at about 60 to the ecliptic - the sun never gets blocked, so you can just mine and mine and mine.

No. Yes.No.No. That certain people don't like the balance of the game is of debatable relevance. It's always been clear to me what the game is, or perhaps it's more informative to say that I know what I expect from the game and don't have the issues with the compromises that others do. These aren't mutually exclusive terms. It's definitely sci-fi, on the harder end of the spectrum than, say, a space opera like Star Wars or Peter F. Hamilton's Commonwealth saga, although it does compromise. But it's not really that confusing - the devs have already made it abundantly clear what the game is; many players just don't like the developers' conception of the game. Largely true; I don't fundamentally disagree, so I won't quibble much. I do think it's rather better than you give it credit here, however.

When I decide that I'm going to log in to E:D and spend my morning/afternoon/evening evening doing whatever tickles my fancy, I enjoy it. I personally feel E:D has struck a good balance between totally open-ended, "content"-free experiences (where the "content," such as it is, is generated by the players and seems almost invariably to involve a group of players server-jumping and taking a dump on others. I'm lookng at you, Ark.) and completely scripted single-player/co-op games where every action leads to a singular outcome defined by the devs, and no, you can't change it (I'm looking at you, Wolfenstein.) In terms of its core gameplay areas, E:D has very high skill ceilings and rewards those prepared to experiment and work out what is going on. It's telling that I have 45 hours (IIRC) in GTAV and more than 3,000 in E:D. Ultimately, there isn't a one-size-fits-all game out there. Both developers and payers have to compromise somewhere. The question is whether the compromises outweigh the parts you...

Maybe the Imperials wear the same Remlok suits. There's only one manufacturer. I think the default pilot chairs are Federal and the fancy white chairs Imperial (made by Gutamaya).

I just installed some C1 beam lasers and modded them for long range + regen heals. This is on my Corvette, and the sound that results from firing these (especially in combo with my C4 burst lasers) is a formidable high pitch whine that would make a dog cry out in agony. I have the biggest headache now that I've ever had from a game, and I only fired the beam lasers sparingly over about 15 minutes in a combat zone. Please reduce the high frequency volume on these C1 beam lasers, to take the edge off my first migraine ever. My future grandchildren shouting at their deaf grandpa thank you in advance :D
