    Each mission has an icon on the left of the description that indicates its type. If there's a skull, for example, it's an illegal mission. If it's cargo canisters (hexagonal tubes) floating, it's a locate and retrieve mission where you need to find a USS and scoop the canisters. If it's an arrow, it's a data delivery mission. If there's a hand with a big plus sign, it's a donation mission (you lose money but gain reputation). If there are three cobras and a cross-hair, it's a massacre mission, either in conflict zones or interdicting pirates. If there is one arrow pointing right and another below it pointing left, it's a source-and-return mission where you have to find a market that sells the commodity and bring it back to the base where you picked up the mission.

    Let's all get together round the camp fire, snort some Tarach Tor Spice (can't get enugh of that sweet crushed beetle shell) and sing Kum Ba Yah, for Elite is a game that rewards patience, perseverance, and a methodical approach. Forums only work when there is a genuine desire to communicate. This quote really encapsulates the experience of being a newb in E:D: "Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck." So rather than tell the people who've tried to help you how bad they are, perhaps you could ask a question. Better yet, when you work out how to do the surface scan mission yourself, why don't you make a Youtube video to help others? One of the issues with your OP on that thread was that it was never clear about which type of surface scan mission you had taken or, indeed, whether you were actually at the right surface...

    The system as is was put in place to prevent a more serious issue from occurring, namely assets not changing hands at the conclusion of a war. The mission generation system can't differentiate between a war that's about to end on the next tick, whose CZs will be in ceasefire, and a war that is still active. You can still attack the mission target ships should you really want to complete that mission, but every ship of that faction in the CZ will target you and you alone. It's fun. Until someone (OK, you) dies. Then it's hilarious.

    Well, I've seen that a number of threads have already been started and then redirected since the forum revision, all to disparate sub forums. I don't see how anybody really likes the idea of sorting through the entire forum directory just to keep track of a single thread they commented in or were following.

    I really wonder how many people will bother with having to track multiple sub forums with minimal participation in them where their contributions are just going to gather dust? A general channel was/is superior.

    My question works on multiple levels, only the most literal of which you answered;) Okay, so my initial reaction to the changes: It's too divisive. In a weird kind of way, it follows Fdev's design philosophy of the game itself with multiple modes and instances and the ability to further segregate the population with the ability to block players willy nilly. It's almost like Fdev does not want us to be able to play together, and now they don't particularly want us to talk to each other, either. On the surface having all of these sub forums seems like it will give us choice, but the end result is that our conversations are going to be hopelessly splintered, segregated and watered down.

    This sub forum was created with one intention in mind: to sweep any and all discussion under the rug that dares to offend the sensibility of the PvE crowd. This isn't where these conversations are going to be held, it's where they're going to die.
