I just like vowels; abjads leave too much to interpretation.

The forum also filled up with people who disagreed with design decisions, development pace and non consensual pvp, just to name a few things. You guys really need to quit staking your claim to righteousness and laying blame on some demographic you personally don't like. The bottom line is that the forum was friendlier because everyone was busy dreaming about the game they hoped they would get. And now we have reality to temper the discussion.

ED was/is the first multi-player game I've ever played, so hitting the pause button was purely instinct. I remember at the time clicking the menu button in a crowded res when I was called away from the screen to change a diaper and thinking "Wow, I can still kind of see other ships moving around under the menu overlay. That's the coolest pause menu ever, it almost seems like it's interactive!" I came back smelling of Desitin and baby poo to a rebuy screen:)

I largely agree with your points. The trick to not getting upset with the discussion (as you outlined in the last part of your post) is to remember that you can't be "talked down to" by an idiot(s). Just chart your course and stick to your guns. You are wrong. This is a forum where people can criticize however they feel like, providing they don't break the rules. I would say that it's "nicer" when the criticism is couched in constructive language, but it's no requirement. I'd like to know that, too. Babelfisch made it sound so dramatic.

This is probably where I missed you - I don't see the need for a responsive narrative at all. At most, I would suggest that Galnet needs to be a lot more responsive to what's going on. Just like flight assist, I neither want nor need FD to hold my hand, and I don't particularly care if anyone else knows what I'm doing. It's allegedly a sandbox; the players themselves should be determining what goes on. Thankfully, the alien narrative is an optional sideshow. Yes, I know. That sounds misanthropic. :D

Yes, it's possible to be completely ignorant of virtually everything and still have ten figures of assets. Yes, the game balance is 'wrong'.

FDev didn't force your CMDR to equip your vessel with a known dangerous piece of equipment and use it irresponsibly. The docking computer is a driving aid, not an autopilot!

I've never found pip macros necessary, or even particularly helpful, at least not on a stick where I can always have a hat switch dedicated to the distributor in easy reach.

And painful, until you engineer the FSD and go lightweight on important modules. Then it's like exploring in a very powerful vanilla AspX.

Would LOVE to be able to fly an untethered SLF! Especially if we could engineer it a little. Not much, just enough to make it a little more durable and with better power distribution. Maybe get some experimental effects like corrosion, concordant sequence, etc. Maybe limit it to having only Super Cruise, so it requires a carrier ship in the system, or ship transfers to move around the galaxy.

With respect to the people who coded yours (and ours) (Anything above tracking BGS behaviour in a spreadsheet and scripting graphs is beyond my skillset), Elite trackers are hobby projects done in the coders' spare time. Outputting graphs is not a particularly complex task (I can do that!), but writing applications that scrape the data from the log files, for example, or getting EDMC to talk to your database, requires a lot more skill. I'd be surprised to learn that FD don't have their own set of tools for their DB backends suited to the kind of information they need to extract and visualise. The in-game Powerplay map, for instance, shows that they're quite capable of developing visualisation tools for the data. To my mind, the decision FD makes will be influenced by how much they want to leave for the 3rd party developers of applications like EDMC or Captain's Log. Whatever they choose to do, I'll be happy as long as I get access to the data in a convenient and clear format. But does it have to be...

I think it was George Carlin who said "think about how stupid the average person is, then appreciate that 50% of people are dumber than them." TARGET is a brilliant piece of software that transforms the T16000M into a ridiculously accurate joystick. There are a few gotchas to bear in mind. For instance, the hat needs to be mapped in TARGET for some reason when you use a custom curve. However the sheer amount of customisation available through the scripting language and the GUI means it's well worthwhile learning the basics.

It's a database. With a bit of query-fu, a suitably experienced developer can generate a far more granular picture than even the best groups can track, down to which CMDR did what at what time.

We had that problem. We had our background sim, we had things we wanted done. We had players. But we needed to incentivise players to actually do the missions. Good will and begging only get you so far. We gave our players missions for BGS activities: The above is from our public missions today, but it works similarly to what we had. The problem was our players each had their own agendas, goals and reasons for being in the Prismatic Imperium, not all of which meant a player wanted to work our BGS. So we started adding 'diamond prizes' to missions.

Yes, I have my strong opinions about that aspect of the forum, but I have to agree with you; the mods have cut me a lot of slack when they could have just as easily put me on the bench. I disagree with certain aspects, but judging the moderation as an entire "program" I have to say that they do it about as well as it can be done. Now that I'm Elite maybe they'll let me be a mod, too?
