And there's no need for challenge to equal pew pew, either. Suppose there were stealth surface scan missions, where you had to remain out of the lines of sight of skimmers? Or ones where the data points were further apart, requiring crazy fast point to point driving skills. Or ones where you have to scan Key Code/Secret Passphrase from Location A, in order to sneak into Location B (Hmm, I smell a new mission chain type...).

OT (mostly) If anyone really can't wait, may I present Space Legs Sally. Explore your newly acquired Asp in 18 rooms of platform fun! Clean up the junk the previous owner left lying around so that your crewmember Zemina will let you into the cockpit! System requirements: Spectrum 128 or emulation thereof.

This 'start menu option' needn't be a GUI element. It should be in game, dictated by the geography of the galaxy, and the difficulty level should be set by the player's choice in where they fly to. I and many others, in this thread and in other threads going back at least 3 years, have argued for more distinct 'political geography' in the game that dictates a wide range of challenges. In all that time, the only response from FD on this request has been the 'security level/wanted level' popup on activating hyperdrive. Any chance of them taking a position on this this time around? Amen. Most of the time, because I went into the scary system. Sometimes I want it to come out of its hiding hole and surprise me, too.

The 3 P's .. (in descending order of value) are Painite, Palladium, Platinum ... But there are ways and ways, things like Osmium might be more likely to turn up in missions (which I tend to take when I get back and provide there and then, from my cargo stock). Industrial and Hi Tech economies in boom are a good place to build rep for mining missions and if you do like mission taking, ice rings are worth considering, even though generally the minerals are worth less ton for ton in commodites. Set up looks reasonable but before you start mining you need a good scan of the ring, to know what it's made of. I can't recall if a normal scan gives you that so I usually carry detailed surface scanner. You can always think of having a small recon ship for searching out good places to mine, in range of a market, with discovery and DSS scanners fitted, then you can go and get your factory ship. K class stars are a good place to start when looking for metallic rings iirc.

Nah. Premiership football on the radio, and a beer. Not torpedos .. fit a mining laser And find metallic asteroids to mine if you want metals, you can also mine ice rings.

To summarize, this thread seems to be unravelling into two skeins: 1) A request for a variety of surface scan settlement challenges, ranging from unopposed, to heavily defended sites that will challenge a wing of Commanders. 2) Making mission payouts appropriate to the challenge, so that their rewards are significant to the Commander completing the mission, whether a new player with a few hours in the game, or someone who's been playing on the same save since Gamma in 2014. -- 1) might require clearer signalling of the hazard related to the 'level' of the mission than commander rank and the '+++' rating of the location. It's unclear whether an 'Elite' mission implies that it requires an end-game engineered ship, or can it be achieved with a silent running small craft? 2) appears to be a derivative of 1). I wonder what the fundamental economics used by FD's designers to determine mission payouts are? Are they deriving them from the strength of opposition, or the distance of the mission...

Oh and this is what I came here for. Is there going to be any system in place to ensure variety in chains and wrinkles? In other words, to prevent multiple missions of the same type from 'wrinkling' in the same way? It looks samey when two missions are both complicated by opposition that manifests as two instances of the same ship type and rank.

Welcome Commander! Grateful to have you onboard and thank you for contributing to Elite. Hopefully the following links will prove useful; link, link, link. If in doubt please post in the following thread and file a support ticket using your store login credentials. Fly safe, drive efficiently and good luck with your cosmic goings-on. The Galactic AcademyMentors will set you up for initial play-through and beyond. The following thread will help you find platform specific game-play and some. The single best recommendation is to seriously take your time and experiment before you commit or switch between game-mode and play style. Don’t be afraid of a do-over or two and if needs be ‘clear your save’ can be found in-game under options menu. Have fun acclimating, play-testing and configuring your control schemes to benefit you specifically long-term while you carry on with all-out galactic diplomacy. Lame. In SC it goes from t-posing, phase out of the ship, to ship spinning like hell and explode. Far more impressive and never done before

There are few trade offs here. Only the shield generator is an optional internal and it's largely mandatory. SCBs eat up internal room thus inherently limit versatility. This thread and the hundreds like it are talking about metagame balance, not the in-game explanation behind how these things are supposed to work, which is at least as important to me.

The biggest reasons, in my mind, for not restricting numbers of SCBs per ship: - Being able to tune ships for specific roles is an advantage in my mind, and a combat fit vessel should have means by which it can be made considerably better at combat than more general purpose loadout, or those specialized in another area. - There is very little precedent for restricting the numbers of non-redundant optional internals. - No one has given a decent explanation of why there would be such a limitation, from an in-game perspective.

If you happen to have a fully charged FSD and also happen to be able to both point at and move toward the jump target, you can jump out of an interdiction. This is pretty damn rare though. Setting a waypoint is primarily so that one can submit to interdiction, fly evasively for the FSD cooldown duration, and then jump away without having to touch the nav panel in a situation where awareness and every second can count.

Morbad replied to a thread PvP Etiquette in Dangerous Discussion
As a player other players can expect me to not cheat and to hold to a rather strict and simulationist approach. I won't willfully disconnect, I won't use the log off timer, I won't stream snipe, I won't go out of my way to manipulate instancing issues to the detriment of others, I won't suicidewinder my way out of bounties, and on the rare occasions I synthesize ammo I'll not take advantage of any persistence bugs. As an in-game character, my CMDR can be relied upon to stick to explicit agreements and rarely instigates trouble, but that's where his concern for fair play or etiquette ends. Indeed upsetting an aggressor's preferred engagement style, half for practical reasons, and half out of spite, is par for the course. If someone can extract enjoyment out of an encounter with my CMDR, that's great, but neither Morbad the player nor CMDR Backer #whatever the character feels compelled to make that easy.

After a handful of updates to this date... I'm expecting more of the same. Either: FDev are in a bubble and genuinely think the gameplay aspect of the game is good enough. Or... They are resource limited and doing the best they can. In terms of Thargoids, for me, it comes down to whether interaction will be limited to existing in game mechanics like USS, witch space and conflict zones, or they have made a new more interesting dynamic for us to engage with.

Targeting the FSD is standard practice to keep a ship around long enough to destroy. 37 seconds is plenty of time to escape, or get shot down. It's possible to survive in a T9, but you're likely to be able to move more cargo, more safely, in an Anaconda, if you are expecting hostility. If you need to touch the nav panel post interdiction, you're already wasting time.

I'm sorry my question seemed rude to you, my PR representative didn't show up today.

Either way i knew he wouldn't answer it, i just wanted him to read it.
Because it's the simple result of his choice to to full online only mode.

  4. hey bro!
quick question know anything about business related articles or changes they are making?
check it, i was sitting here doing my grind on the game making money.
and i realized something it's basically impossible for me to be making these kind of profits from all these different catagories of consumer products.
i mean you cant be making 150% profit on weapons AND biowaste at the same time in real life it takes years to know the ins and outs of a certain business and how to maximize profits and efficiancy.
i mean i understand being able to ship all the different categories but i think it's strange that i can make really good profits off anything. i'm thinking a more specialized model is in order....

Hmmm, well they are both 'artists impressions' so it seems perfectly understandable to me. If you overlap the 2 they are actually a lot closer to each other than they appear at first glance. Though it does appear as though the outer arm stops short on the ED map

It's based on this image from wikipedia, which I overlayed on the starmap tease like this.

  9. Indeed he is!

However he is after all just one guy who have been developing Space Engine on his spare time. Just imagine then what a whole company like FD can do working full time on something similar!

Thanks for the heads up on the Space Engine. Hadn't seen that. Just installed it. Amazing job. This guy is very talented.
