    Interesting idea. This strikes me as a kind of "legal disguise", as it were, a kind of cloaking device of hiding in plain sight. Perhaps if bounties were increased 500%, that would suppress it better?

    ... but as others also mentioned... the money you get for them now (1-2m credits) is fairly out of whack for how easy surface scan missions are at the moment, compared to the reward for other activities. Got 600k reward for taking out a Corvette in a pirate lord assasination, for comparison. I *barely* did this in my engineered combat-dedicated python, but 2m credits to literally land on a planet, waltz up to a point, maybe take out a couple skimmers and a turret if necessary... that should only be worth 200k at most.

    The BGS and player-established Community Goals are a great way that players could use their money, tbh. I would happily post 25, 50 or even 100m in rewards to run a mini CG in a system, for my chosen faction, in order to generate influence effects either by: - Handing in bounties - Trading at a particular station - Trading on a particular black market - Mining - Fighting in conflict zones The mini CGs wouldn't give any "profit" for the person posting it, otherwise it'd just turn into a way to spin yet more money and not fix the problem. But it'd be a great way for player groups/factions to, in very small ways, create cookie-cutter in-game activities for people to go participate in, earn some bonus credits and have fun. Win-Win.

    On the other side of the coin, in live, I had to do a planetary scan at a static Medium Security (+++) Outpost as a wrinkle in an assasination mission. Yeah you can see where the thing you need to scan is on radar, but in this case the base had a large trespass zone, a python and a vulture defending it and many turrets that would undoubtedly open fire on my ship when I made my escape. Dismissed the ship, got the scan, ran out of the perimiter with lots of drones, turrets and ships firing at me, called in my ship, and promptly had to run back into the base, as that's where my ship decided to land XD Point being, this is what the scan jobs need to be like. Fight your way in and take the scan safely, or do a hit and run like above. It's fun, interesting and exciting. Outright surface scan missions need to be more like this... or at least vary it so low-rank/reward missions are like they are right now, while higher rank/reward ones are more like above.

    This sort of thing was found before with the barnacles. It was just a graphical effect. People thought they'd "glow" after weapons fire, some testing revealed the effect could be replicated on most things. I'll jump on and do some testing in a sec. But I'm skeptical. There is already different graphical effects when shooting generic "surface" (what is done in that video as the "baseline" effect) versus "objects".

    16W in-game over 2.5 years, only just realised I'm a net-worth billionaire (only 100m in the bank at the moment). I've never really "farmed" something for credits though. Closest I got was doing Torval-Deliane pre-nerf slave runs for 6-7k/t profit (which wouldn't be bad if it were brought back in today tbh). I did three or four runs before wanting to put my head through a wall. That said, I realised this is probably where that billion mostly came from... EDIT: Thanks to UL's, that is actually 350m with an average of 290k profit now.
