Could use it to exploit BGS and missions, can store cargo in station you are working on until right mission shows up ;) Sure there are plenty of others too!

#1 - yes, please #2 - states and minor faction influence are only available via system map for systems you have explored previously or are huge population systems. your implementation would break with that, making it available to everyone, which i personally don't like. i would like to see all info on a faction and the systems it is in bring present in its homesystem for exampel. #3 well, for me the utc. midnight tick was a catastrophe as a bgs player, seriously cutting into me sleep-time to update tasks for those players in other time-zones. i think there is no good fix ticktime, but would suggest a 25 hours tick for the same reason.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it reads like opposite of what you said: Unless by "there is" you were referring to some other measure by which the game measures skill and achievement of the player? Either way, it's sad that the ranks can be ignored, especially since the top rank is, you know, the name of the game. Elite. That reduces it to window dressing. It could be removed without affecting the game at all. Having use for ranks in game other than gating would provide some of that mysterious element known as "gameplay." :D

I use a thing called IRCCloud on the iPad which I like (and which is probably available for android too). There's also this ... https://confluence.fuelrats.com/display/FRKB/IRC+Client+Setup+Guides

Yes. It's brilliant! :D It's kind of a part time job ... you get your ship fitted out ready to rat, you get yourself an IRC client (preferably on a phone or tablet that you can keep an eye on while you go about your normal ED business). When a call for help comes in you check how many jumps away, call the jumps in the IRC chat and if the dispatcher assigns the case to you ... off you go. Sometimes you won't get a case for days, then others days you'll end up doing 3 or 4 in a row. Very rewarding and highly recommended. How about simply being able to eject an entire cargo bay and tether it to an asteroid (or down on a planet somewhere) for later retrieval? That'd be pretty cool. And if another player stumbles upon it, or finds it by accident? So be it, they can simply steal it.

No grudge from me, just a bit shocked at what she wrote (not the tweet, the three little pigs thing). I've drunk posted some ill-considered stuff in my time, but vitriolic abuse of some of my most irritating customers? (veiled in humour tho it was) ... nope, even I don't get that wasted! :p

Can you provide examples of how the ranking system actually separates by achievement? Honest question, because I don't see it. Your rankings go up regardless of what you do. There's no way to fail. Trade long enough in any ship, running the same cargo back and forth between two ports long enough, you'll eventually reach Elite in trading. It'll take forever, but you can do it. Fly around in any ship doing basic scans and especially running passenger missions and you'll eventually fill the Explorer bucket. Again, it'll take forever, but you'll eventually become an Elite explorer. Combat? This one actually takes a little skill but once you've learned the basics there's a plateau where you can either get a bigger ship with more powerful weapons, or just go to CZ's and farm Elite sidewinders. Either way, there's a easy, but time consuming path to Elite. As for never what the ranks have measured or depicted, even the original Elite had challenges you had to overcome before making that rank. Most games...

Totally agree re: burnout. Something about his videos always makes me want to jump straight back into the game and really start really doing stuff, making my own adventure and not just faffing around with credits and rep and aimless wondering. Incidentally, my first Thrustmaster T.Flight developed a faulty button after about a year and a half. For the price I simply nipped across the road to Maplins and bought another one. My second one is still going strong after another year and a half (but, as mentioned below, I've bought myself a spare at today's Amazon price of 29.99 just in case). So that's three sticks (with maybe 5yrs of daily use?) for under 100!

I haven't actually tried yet :p Those videos make the learning process look very doable but I guess watching and understanding them ... and actually putting them into practice ... are very different things.

I don't get this attitude at all, especially in a game which has ranks from "Mostly Harmless" to "Deadly" for combat, "Penniless" to "Tycoon" for Trader, and "Aimless" to "Pioneer" for Explorer. The names themselves are supposed to evoke achievement, with all of the ranks culminating in "Elite." Players should have to overcome challenges to reach the top in the careers. There should be stratification between those who make the effort to become experts at the game and those who just enjoy messing around. To climb a mountain one person will gatherer equipment, practice the skills to use it, make the ascent plan and scale the vertical side with all the risks that accompany it. The other will drive slowly up the paved road to the scenic overlook at the peak. Even though both people get to enjoy the same view, only one of the two should call themselves a mountain climber. Elite has nothing but paved roads to get to the top. There is no distinction between CMDRs who reaches Elite by being the best at what...

I stand corrected. Nonetheless after 100 consecutive neutron boosts and one failure - on the boost with my FSD already reading 0% - I won't be put off by those odds.

Can I just sanity check my battle cry. It's intended to be an approximate translation of "Let's do this thing!" into old Norse (taken from ye old legend of "Alec the 5-pinted and his FA Off assault on the beast of Burnout") ... Vr hyggja vi gera essi hlutr! Literal translation is "we intend to do this thing" (as far as I can work out)

Lockdown pends for one tick. And it starts pending when the faction's current state has finished. So it isn't necessarily the case that CG starts; lockdown the next day.

Your FSD needs to completely break for you to get thrown out of supercruise. On my recent trip I was neutron boosting until the FSD reached 0% then deliberately overheating next to a regular star so I'd be kicked into normal space and reboot/repair back to 2% FSD. Enough for another three or four supercharges. I don't know what Chris Simon's trick is but my technique when I did get caught in a cone doing the boost sequence described above was to charge FSD for supercruise, boost with flight assist off and then try to line up with my direction of travel. Flight assist would have been constantly trying to make the ship go the way it was facing when actually anywhere that's not here will do. You probably want to turn modules off to reduce your power signature too. Either way your ship is going to take a beating.

I've met Sarah, I like her ... she's definitely a "character" :p and is clearly brilliant ... but errr, yeah ... I think those kind of thoughts towards a certain subset of your customer base .... probably best keeping those safely inside your own head. The internet never forgets!
