Let me finally bring the leaderboard up to date... In Unlimited class, the big news is of course the storming run at the end of March by Cmdr Allitnil. Paradox Drive might be the name of Allitnil's Anaconda, it's also a fairly good way of describing how the time looked, as Allitnil made amazing use of the neutron star superhighway to knock the socks off previous record times (including a whopping 50% improvement on Paradox Drive's previous run). I'm really glad Allitnil explained above how he did it (that post coming through about the time I finally picked my jaw up off the floor after seeing the time in Allitnil's PM). The only thing more impressive than Allitnil's record time of 2 hours, 45 minutes and 39 seconds is the fact that the ship used wasn't fully stripped down! In the other Unlimited class run, veteran racer Cmdr Elan Solo set off from Galileo approximately 5 minutes before Allitnil arrived at Sag A*. Elan's yellow taxi Hauler Fight Fire With Fire took a more traditional route to the...

a war will block lockdown, minimum duration 4 ticks/days after it went active (not sure when that was) you can always transfer moduls and ships to another station, even when the station where the module or ship are is in lockdown.

I don't think the club has any actual rules as yet. I would not suggest changing that fact. :) To me the best argument so far is that fundamentally we do this to have fun. If a race organiser was to win, or come close to winning, their own race, then that might diminish the fun of others*. Taking part otherwise (whether in a less-than-optimal ship type, or staying out of the classification on the board, or however else) should, in my view, not impact the enjoyment of other participants, and thus should be OK. *although if ElectricZ were to look like winning a Buckyball Run, I suspect most of the old hands would probably just cheer him on! :D

I've submitted a T9 time, slightly better - still last place, but at least over 1500pps. I might have time for one or two more runs before midnight - I don't think I'm good enough to challenge the top places, but I could improve my position if I manage not to mess up my SC. I'm nowhere near 1000s let alone the 14 or 15 minute times that the leaders appear to have. Well flown guys, girls and cats. o7

First, OP You're either wrong or your game is bugged. Using planets as brakes works just fine. You just need to understand that not all planets are massive enough to brake all speeds. Controlling your orbital radius, speed, and dynamic throttle setting for maximum time-efficiency is a bit of an art form in Elite. 2nd, the rest of the post in this thread are wrong about physics. RL Gravity assists are used to increase/decrease velocity with respect to a 3rd body and the direction of the orbit. The game uses different physics for interplanetary travel whereby SC (alcubierre-type) bubbles are disrupted by the space-time curvature of gravity wells. This sci-fi game mechanic makes logical sense since we're talking about a highly localized curvature being disrupted by a larger scale radial-distance based curvature.

I made a few T9 runs yesterday, two of which I completed - well off the pace for now though. I did think that I'd be sneaking ahead of furrycat, but an outstanding new run by my feline friend ended any chance of that. If I don't get chance to make another run before the end, then I'll submit my slow time this evening. :( I did have another run that would have been an improvement I think (still no challenge to the leaders), but the traffic controllers got muddled up and told me I was trespassing even though I'd got docking permission! I'd missed the slot initially which contributed to the confusion I think. I managed to get back away two seconds before the station was due to open fire on poor Baymax! I also had a quick go at a T7 run before bedtime. That was short lived though - boosted straight into the inside of the docking bay - boom!! So I might not even have chance to get onto the bottom of the board in a T7. :(

i own both. FDL is a beauty, and surely excells at bountyhunting, but also every other way of combat. it's the largest ship which still is a small fighter ;-) FGS is my preferred fighter carrier. if you like to pilot larger ships (like python and conda), get both.

This kind of discussion really disappoints me. All that I'm going to add to it is that EZ has participated in all his Buckyball Runs without offending anyone or seriously threatening the top of the leaderboard, but has given me a friendly rival to compete with down near the bottom at one or two races (including Heavy Metal, the only time I've currently got will finish last in the T9, hopefully I'll have time to make improvements). If anyone has the cheek to write a set of RULES for race organisers to stick to, then I'll never be reading them. :p PS: Alec I saw your tongue in cheek comment for what it was, and just laughed. :D

I'm pretty sure that the effect you are experiencing is not down to the buffed influence effect of bounties, but an effect of multiplying positive actions per superpower aligned minor faction. as the number of actions goes up, the effect of each action goes down ... to back that up, here quoted a carefully worded support answer: "lots of positive influence effects" and "actions for other factions" are the important words here imho, as the system mentioned has 4 superpower aligned minor factions. each single superpower bounty redeem would count as 4 actions, creating 4 "positive influence effects" - at least that is what i believe is the case. so reducing the influence effect of bounties wouldn't be a solution to the underlying problem.

reducing the influence effect of bounties would be no solution to the multiplication of actions via superpower bountie redeems, which leads to diminuishing effects for any other action in system, and is a large part of the current frustration of many player groups. i'm with schlack here, basically, the superpower bounty effect as we probably see it currently requires a lot of cmdrs and random traffic. i still remember the original implementation of powerplay, when only after beta the effect of that many crimes in systems were visible (and FDEV later on changed powerplay action to non-crime in BGS terms).

well, i also can't really have a good suggestion... as said before, i think there are 3 problems with the implementation. - multiplication of actions (superpower bounty redeem) by number of factions leading to diminuishing effects (if that is the case, which i belive). I have no idea, how FDEV fixed the 1-t trading exploit, but i assume that they somehow collect several small transactions per cmdr per instance or something, counting several actions as one action. maybe they have introduced a gate, like only trade actions of 10 t counting... i don't think that could be a solution for superpower bounty redeems, as those are redeemed by different commanders, though. if the BGS algorythm can work with fractions of actions, that would be another way (in a 3 superpower alligned minor faction system with 60%, 30%, 10% give them a 0,6 action, 0,3 action, and a 0,1 positive influence action)... but i assume, that both things aren't possible with the current way influence is calculated, so i simply would suggest to...

Oops, even more distracted now! I might get one more chance to race if I can figure out how to fit that inflated space pumpkin into my Asp without bursting it on my newly acquired Reaver-rust-spikes. Realistically tho ... I'm probably done here. Happy racing/trading to everyone still pushing that profit-per-second envelope. Terrific race EZ and hey, if you reckon you can beat cookiehole then "awkward" be damned ... GO FOR IT!!! It's time that guy got to experience the view from one of the lower steps on the podium . :p:p:p P.S. Edelgard ... could you go a bit faster in the T6? I kind of promised I'd hold last place for Codger and Charles.

Oh dear ... when I made my tongue in cheek comment (I've just checked, there was definitely a tongue, if not exactly in the cheek, then definitely pretty close to it) about EZ competing in his own race I really didn't expect it to kick off quite so much serious discussion. For my part, I pretty much agree with everything that's been written. I think having at stab at your own race for fun and posting some kind of "pace car" time is absolutely fine, I think giving it a damn good go in something silly (like a Beluga or something) is fine, I think doing your absolute damnedest to get the fastest time you possibly can and either keeping it to yourself or else posting it outside of the scoreboard in a VERY small font size is probably OK ... but personally I think actually winning your own race would be ... errr, awkward, to say the least. Oh, and I don't think anyone has ever seriously suggested that the race organiser would have a deliberately planned advantage in their own race (although they may have an...

HEY! JUST FINISH A RUN? CLICK HERE -> "It's only ten blocks to the finish! I have a feeling that we will be... TRIUMPHANT!" --CMDR Chaos My oh my, what a race it's shaping up to be. Bookies and insurance agents alike are running for cover. Today saw a bevy of CMDRs looking to make last minute history in an all-out struggle for domination which began with CMDR Polly's Finding Nemo coming back over the top at Bruski's Delectus Something Caffeine (really, guys, Latin is dead, haven't you heard?) just barely squeaking by the Spacebear by the thinnest margin and a PPS of less than TWO to take first. But then, OUTTA NOWHERE... CMDR Furrycat pounced, claws out, like a cat chasing the intoxicating, beguiling red dot of a laser pointer in his 500-ton capacity Purple Paw. Coming up an incredible SEVEN places on the leaderboard, Furrycat snatched first out of the air, batted it around, let it go, and then pounced on it one more time just for fun before catching his reflection in his cockpit window and...
