I agree that it's important for Frontier (and the community) to stay vigilant. For all their bluster though, I kind of doubt that people who cheated will be in a hurry to have their accounts penalized again. They could lose MUCH more the next time around as repeat offenders. If you believe their prior posts, there are "much worse cheats out there" and we can assume they've already taken advantage of them, and may perhaps be using them still. If they were engineer related, then likely they lost the benefit already with the recent remedy. But if they use these cheats to regain their mods again, I suspect the next time they get caught will be their last.

Many a racer can tell you there is a spot on the inside top (assuming you have greens on the right when entering the slot) where, even if you barely scrape it, you die. I have a video of it happening, but that one I was actually going pretty fast (but there is very little apparent contact... it' just looks like I hit an invisible wall).. That said, I've seen MUCH more egregoous examples which I didn't catch on video, and I've seen video from a number of Commanders of similar incidents where even very low-speed hits there were fatal. It's odd. I've always assumed it is some glitch in the geometry, and testing it out with a Sidewinder is on my list of "things to do when I get bored".

So writing the above got me thinking, and it has been a long time, but I've still got my planning spreadsheet somewhere. So... Intent to run: CMDR Raiko The Nomad (Asp Explorer) Classic Class I'd never intended to make another non-engineered run once the 9-hour challenge had been done by Shizuka, but I may as well try one last time to reclaim the classic Asp record from Rusti.

Isn't the whole point of Colonia to not just be an expansion of the bubble, but a whole new venture with all the challenges that entails? Seems like this would kind of defeat the purpose to me.

This is my hope as well. The whole point of this thread tbh. If the cheaters want to remake their fleets legitimately or try to prove their claims that "cheats are irrelevant" because their "skill > gear" then I look forward to their return. But if they are unwilling to compete legitimately, then they were always going to be a drain on the game anyway, and good riddance. ;)

Oh, I'm definitely going to experiment with it and try to figure out the problem. Now that I'm... a little less depressed, and starting to think about the problem, I have some ideas on experiments I can do to help me figure out what causes it and how to fight it. (Actually, I feel... pretty good right now. Not out of the woods yet by any stretch - waaaaay too soon for that - but... the things y'all have said have buoyed me quite a bit. It's... depression poisons your thoughts. It strips away meaning and purpose and value and makes everything seem hollow. Hearing from others that your efforts have meaning to them is definitely the best antidote. And... I've had a bit of that at work today, too, which definitely also helps. My natural stubbornness has started to kick in, and it won't let me quit.) Besides, part of my backstory for how Tim ended up with Haulin' A* to begin with is that CMDR Moonshadow only agreed to sell her if Tim promised to defend her honor. So, if I'm going to keep her, I...

So, I don't really have the same disorientation issues as you, but I would say that going in slowly is actually my preferred tactic for reliably getting a boost. I tend to assume that the moment I've entered the cone I have little-to-zero control over where the ship's going to go or how it's going to behave, so basically I should aim to be going slow enough that I'll get a boost whatever happens, and then sort everything out on the other side. Still, it's definitely a shame to hear that it's affecting you so heavily. My personal opinion would be that you should definitely try to figure out what's going on and see if there's some way you can mitigate it - it'd be great to see more runs from you as always. :) With all that said, obviously if it's causing you physical discomfort to try it then don't let us pressure you into it! Oh, and I absolutely agree with the others about Haulin' A* - it's absolutely a classic ship, and I think it'd be a great shame to see her vanish into the ether. I mean hell, I've...

I may well still do the FdL run sometime soon. There is still merit in it, I think... as you said, it sets the bar for how fast the ship can get there without neutron stars, and since there is no existing mark for that, it's worth doing. Also, I will finally get the scan data for Sadge (if I can keep from blowing up this time!). So, yes, I will do it, in time. But there's something else I have to do first. If I'm going to lose the definitive mark for the Standard/Classic Hauler, and if at least for now I'm not up to the task of taking that mark back (not until I figure out how to make neutron star jumps without making myself sick, anyway), then I'm going to set the definitive mark for one of the other ships I love... and I'm going to do that before I do any runs that don't meet that standard, even if I do still think it's a worthy pursuit. You see... as I've thought about it, and as I've read what other people have said, and as I've considered my reactions to it... and as I've tried to clear out...

i just bought a third account. @OP big fan of the DBE, but there aren't many great paintjobs for it imho - especially as the standard one is quite good. i'd take one for the python, those luminiscent ones are special.

Have an X-56. Have not had problems with it (thought I was at one point, turned out my hub had gone bad). That said, I do not doubt the reports of QC issues; I've just had good luck with mine. One thing I will note about the X-56, though - it needs a powered USB hub. If you plug it directly into your PC, it may not get enough power (and this will cause flaky behavior, especially from the throttle). As long as I've had mine plugged into a good powered USB hub, however, it's been extremely solid. One of my friends who has one has had some driver issues with his, but he has not seen any hardware problems yet, either. That said, the analog thumbsticks will spoil you. Once you get used to analog thruster control, you'll never go back.

Not my opinion, the opinion of the developers. Whether it is right or not is an entirely different question and not one for here as it has been discussed elsewhere widely. The system is in constant review.

This is not about efficiency, or taking opportunities within the designed mechanics of the game. This is willfully exploiting a loophole in a mechanic to deliberately gain an advantage! You realise you are advocating that doing this in an online game, where your actions directly affect other people? If you want to deliberately cheat yourself in a single player game then that is your lookout, you want to do it in an online game (however you justify it to yourself)... That is not on.

However the developers have explicitly stated, on more than one occasion, that is not an exploit. It was a design decision, there were some bugs, most have been squished, and they are always reviewing design decisions.

    1. bought and outfitted an exploration conda, including that 7A fuelscoop. did a short goodbye-visit to the local RES in my cobra. upon returning, instead of switching to the conda, selling it. that was roughly 30 mio down to loss of selling modules.
