    Not to force playstyles on anyone? What about this bit - that would restrict affecting Factions to Open only?: Any type of player can request that a Faction is inserted and any player can affect Factions from any mode - by design.     Just watching the Expo videos, finished with the amazing Jack Horner video on dinosaurs and starting on Exploring Alien Life. Thanks for these and thanks for bringing a bit of education along with your games. Knowledge is fun. And oft repeated in that last video is my absolute favourite scientific fact: Birds are dinosaurs. Thanks Jack and Frontier! Now on to the next one.

    That's true. Not all people who wish for some kind of bonus for playing in Open want it to encourage more potential targets/victims into Open. Some just want a bonus because they very smugly feel they are more deserving of any rewards the game has to offer, often due to some assumed moral high ground. Speaking of which... I rest my case.

    8) The ship type itself is often a clear giveaway. FDL in a CZ? Player. Corvette in an RES? Player. 9) Cosmetics. Does it have a ship kits? Player. Does it have a non-default weapon or engine colors? Player. I say "masking" players as solid squares would make things worse, because the gankers and griefers could then intentionally blend into the NPC population until they ambush, while a normal player who just plays as usual would often give away their playerness anyway.

    Well that is certainly not my intention, perhaps I need to work on the clarity of my assertions. My key point is not to further divide but to find an amicable solution for all that solves your initial premise. Anything new, be it AX weapons or any other change, will undoubtedly upset the balance of PvP in the game. My key point here is to remove all reasonable doubt. The game should make it crystal clear that Open = PvP; and as a result sanctions against players who CLog could and should be more forcefully applied.

    I'm no backer or anything like that (I didn't even know Elite existed until my mate got me into it at around 1.0 or 1.1 - months before wings was introduced) - but I've jumped into this game and love it (can't stand some aspects like the over-powered RNG creep that is the engineers or the imbalanced nature of module health when comared to other modules, but meh). I knew of Star Citizen way before Elite, but SC never drawn me in (even though it now does look fantastic - I don't think it'll sell it to me) - I was never convinced it would be any good and even a couple of years ago it was still being developed years before that (since 2011?). Elite is based on our universe - mostly based on science with some sci-fi - and it has aliens! Where's that content in Star Citizen? For me, the aliens and exploration will keep me playing Elite - even if it takes months or years to pan out, I love it.     SDC and their allies have successfully been blocking the system for week now (correct me if I'm wrong), killing everyone entering the system. AA are acting like amateurs there. Don't get me wrong I don't care for any side... all I care for are the poor harmless Sidewinders which die like flies there. So I want to call for anyone who can contribute to make Eravate, a better place for the starters. Corrected as requested, unless I misunderstood the bit about correcting you if you were wrong! ;) ;) :D

    Well I don't want to detract too far from the point, but to clarify perhaps it would have been better for me to say 'not ALL players' in that previous point. I was not trying to advocate that people should give up and go play PVE mode. Merely that presenting the players with the clear choice at the mode selection screen would leave less room for confusion; and hopefully as a side effect help alleviate the issue in your OP. EDIT: See this is a very good point, I don't see how giving other players options would be an affront to anyone else if they are not there to see it?

    Impossible is not the antithesis of 'easy'. I said it would 'take some work' to implement. And please don't bring the immersion word into play, it is a weak argument when we are all flying around FTL and shooting visible lasers. ;)

    No, I was talking about giving the option to the player to specify up front how they want to play. Immediately before I was agreeing how I think renaming open to specify PVP. I can't decide if that is a quote mine, cherry picking or an ad hominem but A+ for effort ;)

    Yes, I think at this stage it would be a good course of action to reconsider the options. It is quite obvious that players do not want to play the way that FD originally intended. I am not sure you fully understand the way the game architecture works in respect to modes. It would be possible, it would take some work sure, but it is not 'impossible' ;)

    No; people would rather not be effectively required to grind their behinds off just to get to the same status quo that they had already reached pre-2.1. NPCs becoming fully engineered was one of the biggest fears of many here, and luckily FD have not given into the temptation to do this step, thus preserving (so far) the thin and fragile status quo where engineers are still technically optional. Let's keep it that way.
