True. Supposedly the IS/Daesh call is to use 'any household item' (carving knives, god knows what). Cars and vans have been pretty effective for them though, and in a way surprising we haven't seen more attacks like this to date. Don't know if self-driving cars are more or less dangerous but either way they're pretty rare at the moment, bollards in busy areas have to be where it's at I think. What a bunch of tossers, anyway.

Okay there is some confusion here :) 1) I already know about the nav beacon scan, thanks! :) CL2 beta is already working with it :) 2) As Jantah kindly pointed out, the nav beacon scan providing system data is intentional - and is a great addition! 3) Currently, this data is only the equivalent of a level 2 scan. 4) I/We in EDCD have suggested it is desirable for this data to be the equivalent of a level 3 scan (because for 'known' systems that is the level of detail available in the system map)

Other questions might be: "do players with little time available respect the gaming desires of those with more?" and "should all games be suitable for all players?".

I agree with this about elite. I hardly do missions in the week as I wouldn't have time. It doesn't stop me from traiding or heading into a haz. If/when I get the inevitable "are you on that game agane!!" off my handbrake I just log out there and then. And reply "no dear, I'm just..err....doing something productive" This gos with engineer mats as well. I can go looking for a particular mat...even if I locate a system, set a course and do 2/3 just befor I have to long out, I'm still "on the way" and have lost nothing. Then when I DO get time for a good session iv got lots to cram in. I do feel elite is one of those games where if I had unlimited time to play....id burn out quite quickly. sometimes less is more. :)

I guess it's possible distance to target has an effect .. but only a stopwatch knows for sure? Not something I've noticed either way personally. Felicity Farseer has three blueprints for DSS .. fast scan, long range and wide angle. Doesn't mean distance to target doesn't have an effect too though ... edit -- There's actually a lot of fun to be had in doing experiments like this, with stopwatch. People have done all sorts of weapons versus shield tests (turn off report crimes against me!), ship heat / cool characteristics .. and I did one on the powerplant fusion system, which it turns out uses 22.2 grams of Hydrogen per second to generate 1 MW. So if you do this experiment, let us know? o7

it's a good idea as long as it's properly implemented, as others have said it's open to exploits already. I would like to see a ramming penalty where a ship collides with another on purpose to get the target destroyed.

Toggle Headlook .. binding is under 'mode switches' in the controls menu. (Don't know what system you use but I think default binding for keyboard + mouse is to click the <mouse wheel button> to toggle headlook on/off). By the way - from your first post - hitting L is default for toggling ship lights, not landing gear!? Default binding for landing gear .. is K.

You can disable the pre-flight check .. in right panel, functions tab again. Hang on, need to look up where the headlook controls are in the menu

It would make more sense and be more "lore friendly" if the cost of the victim's ship was added to your rebuy costs. Quite simple: If I ram my car into the rear end of someone else's car and am found at fault then MY insurance is responsible for repairing not only the damage done to MY vehicle but also for any damage and medical bills for the car that I hit. At least that's how it works where I live.

You need 'headlook' mode .. this disconnects your controls, and allows you to move your head independently. Orienting around rotating stations does take a bit of practice. Generally speaking the entrance 'more-or-less' faces the planet but (what works for me is) .. as you look at the docking slot, the station ALWAYS rotates in a counter-clockwise direction (zero throttle engines and watch the station's rotation for a second)

Hmm. Weird. Can you confirm in the control settings that L is set to 'toggle' landing gear? (some keys you have to hold down). You can test if landing gear is working at all, I believe by deploying manually in your right panel, functions tab ... ?

Frontier are careful because there's danger making promises in case there's a problem with code and they have to cancel, after promising. They also get sales from making announcements big, at trade shows (Gamescom, EGX) and to journalists who can reach many people with big news (when it's ready). But (small example); When Holome started, a girl on forums wanted longer hair for female character. There was a big fight on forums, some say yes, some say no. Frontier said .. nothing .. but now (2.4) there are longer hairstyles. Frontier listened and worked in silence .. but they DID do that work. I believe Frontier are invested in ED. They have new offices, new Chinese investors and a huge country of potential new players there, new platforms, PS4 etc. It also makes good sense for them to develop ED with financial security behind them (that's money in the bank, not borrow + variable interest rates). ED is very (very) playable. It can be more, and step by step is becoming more .. but the best way your...

Guess I'd define PvP as player vs player Not everyone does know about private groups or that there are PvE groups out their because new players join all the time. So each time the subject comes up it's bound to get mentioned. I

Nope hollow is good. I see a hollow and say hi how are you doing, fancy joining a wing or crew. Up tot anything interesting. Fancy a chat. What do you think of blah etc? No hollow = more or less never meet anyone ever in the game and have a friendly chat and some spontaneous fun. Dont like PvP - play in a group that feels the same Happy to play with anyone and everyone and take it as it comes - play in open

From what I saw in Obsidian Ant's video, a reload for chaff or heatsinks requires 4 or 5 of a rare item, like Tin - if someone wants lots of those, they are going to have to sacrifice so much of their other rare materials etc - it just wouldn't be worth it for engagements because the downtime to replace those materials would be insane... I don't fancy 1 hour SRV trips looking for rare minerals just to get a reload or two. Edit; hence, these are more for explorer's than for combat usage. I've no problem with Chaff reloads as that's a pretty defensive utility for traders and explorers. Heat sinks will probably need balancing to require Grade 3/4 and a Grade 5 materials just to prevent PvPers who get bored of mindlessly driving in an SRV to farm those materials - explorers enjoy that aspect of exploring planets.
