Closed, as OP has been answered and this is gonna turn into a PvP/PvE debate thread otherwise.

Hopefully Frontier and future event coordinators have learned that, due to instancing and other issues, this kind of event has to be kept small and catered to a tiny fraction of the community instead of advertised to the galaxy as a whole. Frontier has deliberately tweaked the instancing mechanic to make it more likely that you'll land in the same instance with persons on your Friends List or in your Wing then it is that you'll instance with a total stranger. This is fine for regular day-to-day gameplay but when the objective is to engage persons on the other side of a conflict it doesn't help if you only land in instances populated by your friends. On April 29th I didn't see a single person who I identified as being hostile to our group's position. We basically showed up for what we expected to be a PvP event and found nobody to play against. There was a massive number of players ... just nobody from the opposing side. In an event like this I'd like to see Frontier enable a mechanism to select a side,...

Reality rarely is. I was really, really hoping for something like what Harry did to happen ... but to watch it suddenly interrupted by an invasion of aliens. There has been much criticism about Elite's content being something that we experience vicariously. I've yet to personally experience a "hyperdiction". If it weren't for YouTube that would be something that I've never seen. April 29th saw a sudden influx of players like something I haven't seen since the early days of the game's release. It would have been a perfect time for Frontier to roll out the aliens in a big way and to a large number of players at the same time. EDIT: Gah! Somebody please stop me from derailing the thread again.

This is the one bit of credible "conspiracy" from your video. Who were the leaders of PAC? What player groups were they from, and linked with? I've seen rumour that SDC and Code members were involved all along with PAC and manipulated it to their advantage, quite successfully. I'm looking forward to hearing from these organisations to get their side of the story.....

Makes sense. He wanted to get big name player groups involved . He publicised this event as PvP and wanted to get people on both sides or there would be no PvP. SDC saying "we're gonna protect her" and being believed by anyone is the only thing that makes no sense.

This message was a speech he had prepared for her to deliver, which she liked doing. She made a big one at Beage Point. She dies before she delivered her speech, which may have revealed more about the plot. But the message from Rebecca that we have just needed one character to make it.

I'm not arguing with your video, I'm trying to shed some light on the facts as I've found them. I'd like to see any proof the HP was involved with CoR as I've spoken to people who were in selome's wing and the CoR inner council who tell me different. Selome's player has accepted all invites from players for many months. It's been the policy for the account so interested parties can interact when she is in open, like the distant worlds trip. If they went through and un friended a select few names, or did any sort of filtering, that would be more of a reason to call foul.

Unlike the case of the Formidine Rift where Rebecca found the Mega Ship first and left hints (edge of the Galactic arm and the Reorte Riedquat line) we have nothing to go on. It took years of looking in the Rift before we rediscovered the location and even then it took Drew sticking us with a cattle prod via the latest round of GalNet hints. We are basing the possibility of Mega Ships in the Conflux and Hawking's Gap purely on the speculation that, since there was one in the Rift, there must be one in each of those locations as well. It's great speculation but I have a gut feeling that the Rift mystery was expanded to include the Gap and the Conflux only recently. The Rift content was there, in a less impressive form, since Gamma but we have no guarantee that Frontier has implemented Mega Ships in these two other locations. Just like searching for Cassiopeia A you might be out looking for something that just isn't there. If I were to apply a reasonable approach to locating additional Mega Ships here's...

How many people were in the group that stole the meta alloys? I bet if all four characters got killed during the 29th live event, Luko would have appeared at the destination and activated the comms beacons! I've just been posting on MassiveD's thread where he's bashing Drew and Frontier for this all being rigged from the start. So much disinformation flying round, such a shame.

Ok. I watched the video and can agree that Elite is woefully inadequate for any kind of massive multiplayer gameplay or events such as this. But there is a lot of mis information in your video. Seleme's ship took a lot of damage over the two hours, and the fsd failed at the end. Her CoR wing got dispersed due to lag and instancing, so didn't arrive in time to protect her. HP wasn't involved with the CoR defence. PAC was set up by players to coordinate other players who wanted to get involved, outside of the CoR efforts. What happened here is a grey area, but that's where the laughable SDC involvement comes into play, the kicking of willing participants and the de-weaponising of lots of players. Drew is an author. Who loves Elite. He was luckily enough to get to write an official novel during the Elite Kickstarter, and made a few mentions of a mystery in the rift. After the games release, a small but growing pool of players got hold of this mystery and went looking. Frontier put something in the game...

I forget the exact circumstances but there was a change in Imperial policy. I guess it was a sort of sexual revolution of sorts. EDIT: Apparently Hengist Duval rescinded the previous decree and opened the door to the possibility of a female heir: https://community.elitedangerous.com/en/galnet/uid/561397259657ba7007435572

I've not watched your video yet, but I've been compiling info about this event for the Rift thread from various sources. The "leak" that is your smoking gun, I assume, is the discovery of comms beacons at the destinations of the 4 book characters. An explorer stumbled upon these and saw the message the characters were racing to deliver, before the event started. These are server side so were injected into the game during the last update for players to find. Game mechanics meant there was a chance of them being stumbled across instead of players being led to them during the chase event, which is what happened, and Drew requested people to not spread this to maintain the illusion of events unfolding in the game. There were 4 characters and any one of them reaching the target system meant the info would be broadcast. From a storytelling perspective, what happens to those 4 individuals didn't matter, as long as one reached the destination. Hell, even if all 4 died I think there was a 5th character not...

Have to say, Mobius is very much the place where the game is played the way it should be IMO. Open is where I'd go if I wanted to have to deal with the ingame embodiment of the vitriol you see in these forums. Now all that needs to happen is for the Mobius game play style to be embraced as the primary 'open' and for PVP/Griefers to fade away into their own little exclusive 133t private groups... in my opinion anyway.

Not quite, IIRC. The Duvals weren't against female assisted reproduction ... they simply went to great lengths to ensure that no female children were born to the Duval line. I think there is more detailed information in one of the the short stories in Tales From the Frontier ... but my copy is at home so I can't look up the reference right now.

Minor correction to the last one: It was Robert Garry, not Robert Gunn. Gunn was the Alliance Operative who ended up teaming up with Garry.

FRONT PAGE UPDATED with a few links to messages from Drew about the event on the 29th. Now, can we PLEASE return this thread to it's sombre, slow placed hiding place of wild speculation and crazy theories, and stop going on about who killed who..... If you want to talk further about events on the 29th, and the player groups involved, please choose one of the MANY Salome event posts in Dangerous Discussions. Please reserve this thread for related mysteries. What's still out in the rift, who is behind it all, and where we can focus our attention next. I don't want to get a mod in here again......! I will add more detailed summaries to the front page when relevant parties come forward with concise versions of events from their viewpoints.

  1. Howdy! I just finished your first ED book (I bought ebook and Audible) and enjoyed it very much. I'm a PS4 owner, so your book was a great intro to ED universe while I wait my turn to climb into the cockpit. Thanks!
