Welcome home Commander! Overjoyed for your return and thank you for contributing to Elite. Nothing silly about a rite of passage. I suggest the entire thread is reviewd once more on reasons given. In short, those witgh the deepest pockets dominate the franchise, thus removing the RPG-y-ness of it, as one can simply buy ones way up the ranks Munchkin style.

BC3000ad was hyped quite a bit back then. It ultimately had incredible promise (pilot your base ship and launching your own fighter craft was already done in Lightspeed, but only BC promised to also let you go down to planets) but was plagued with bugs. The later games were also quite buggy but most importantly, completely opaque - because Derek insisted even in his manual that if you couldn't be bothered to remember 30 made-up acronyms and use your entire keyboard for function keys, you better play something else. But you COULD land on planets, walk on planets, there was a real time strategy game buried in there and it all had multiplayer. The FPS was clunky, the engine sucked (my humble selfmade stuff blew Universal Combat's terrain engine away, and that says something) - but IMO that was a mix of too big ambition, a wild mix of technologies, and too little money to drill down on individual aspects and really polish them. But, underdelivering game or not, he published several titles and you can't say...

All i can say is i felt like a leper victim for pointing out the obvious discrepancies in the KS promises (private servers! Modding! Global economy and money! All in one game, with no plan as to how or where the boundaries are!) There was no DS back then. Even just asking questions was reason for being called stupid, a doubter, a hater. Not just online, but friends too. Elite was different, what they aimed for was doable, had been done before, but it was really the alpha that sealed the deal for me. But SC did cause a lot of damage, for almost everyone i talked to held off because they were all waiting for SC. "Why should i back ED, when SC is gonna kill that game on release anyway?" I'm with MTB here, there has been an amazing amount of toxicity from the SC fans for a long time. People asked me to back the project and some even broke off contact after I explained my doubts. Despite being diplomatic and saying things like, let's see what they release, i hope it'll be great. Then the whole gray...

Considering who owns the IP now, the title is a lie. We all know it's not gonna be the last Jedi. Also, JJ and Giacchino are terrible. Edit: AT-ST! AT-ST! AT-ST! AT-ST!

Great idea and this could be extended to planet POIs, allowing us to scan for specific types and then visit them without the current blue circle mechanic. Because really, the blue circle makes little sense, both in-universe and as a game mechanic. P.S: this would make for a great multicrew station.

Yes but some of these people are just... wrong :) For example people who repeat "ED can not have an end game", as a response to calls for a better metagame like player owned structures and outposts. It was the same for Planetside 2, people saying we could not have Spitfire turrets, orbital strikes and construction because "PS2 is not that game". Even though the first one had it, but these people just had no clue and mostly never played it to be able to formulate an informed opinion. Only after those folks finally got bored and left, the game progressed - but too little, too late.

I find some of the criticism of the game refreshing. Here we are, on the game's official forums, and we can call out incomplete features like Multicrew without threads being shut down. Yes there's plenty of doomsayers too, but eh. I do think most people criticize the game not because they think it sucks, but because they absolutely do care about it and want to see it improve.
