1st time i exited the coriolis in VR. it happened to be right next to an ELW so got the double whammy. more recently however (just last night in fact) coming out of the thargoid base, getting shut down and seeing the big thargoid descent down and hovering just above me watching it scan my wingmate was also incredible.

not much.... i have a few passenger cabs and cargo racks dotted about however in case i ever find a good spot for those missions and they are not sold. i can then get them shipped in and whilst they are in transit do a different mission to cover my delivery charges.

up or ua get you in, up is needed to get the ul and all 3 are needed to turn on the light show (star map?) oh and apparently if you have a guardian relic and put that in it does interesting things but i have not seen that yet

    Well, hmm. For me it probably could come down to sound effects, all joking aside. At the moment it's a generic fast tick on the sliders, and literally a roulette wheel, in sound and vision. For the main sliders; 1m 40s For the wheel (to emulate oscilloscope);

No one is telling you you have to Engineer anything. People without Horizons get along fine. NPCs dont have stacks of Engineered stuffs. I think teh joy has gone out of teh gae for you becasu eyou want the bets gear in teh game rather than playing for the best experience. If you were having fun withouht doing engineering just do that. Good luck and I hope you find something tto put a smile on your face. I hope this picture cheers you up I lieked it before engineering and since engineering I liek it just as much. So I ignore engineering and carry enjoying it. I guess when I have a meal and there's something in it I dont like (like a dodgy looking prawn) I put it to teh side of my plate and ignore it and tuck in to the rest :D

are you doing in solo? if not then there. last night i was in a group and the UL did not drop. its a known bug, so, i put my UA into the hold of my ship... logged into solo (interestingly ships voice coms dont go down once you quit to menu and change modes) i then drove into the base with JUST the UP, the UL did drop down as it was meant to then... picked it up, went out side, logged back into mobius now with all 3 items and we then activated the light show. more convoluted than it should have been but it would not be elite without a few broken mechanicis :D edit oh and for some reason, one of the guys in my instance when we did have all 3 of the items, he was trying to help by dropping one of them into the machine, and it was hit and miss whether the machine would take them off him. a few times i had to pick up the ua / up / ul or what ever he was trying to put in, and do that one as well.. dunno if it was because it was "my" instance bubble that he joined or what....... but it worked for me all...

but this is par for the course in games primarily balanced around PvE. personally i hate sidegrades and do not enjoy working for them. I have no issue with upgrades myself. I see Elite as far more darkstar one or X or privateer than I do eve valkyrie (which is not to say i am right) yes i want to see changes to engineers, but i do not want to see PvP like balanced sidegrades all over the place........ as for the crack train... yes its sad that such obvious exploits not only exist but are openly advertised and indeed they are 4th wall breaking, which is a big problem for me. whether you like engineers or not is not a good excuse for them existing. in an ideal world there would be no silly exploits but players will always find a way. the sad part is with ED you have to work to avoid them, rather than work to find them such are their prevalence.... imo of course.

as i understand it there are 2 massive advantages of the .... (2x4k it ISNT) 8k pimax the FOV and the fact it is compatible with vive lighthouse 2.0, so you get proper 6DOF tracking i would not expect image quality for the main FOV that both hmds cover to be that much different tbh. the 4k is essentially a high resolution DK1. the (2x4k it isnt) 8k pimax is a proper fully featured VR HMD like the rift or the vive

wow that icy concept is awesome (and i hate the term awesome) the above image aside where the game clearly missed the mark by a country mile, in general, all the in space concept art stuff has actually been incredibly close to the mark. I guess it underlines the point people make (no source but its been said) that making "space games" look really good is a lot easier than when you have ground detail AND a sky box to worry about. (that said, that concept art looks to me more like an icey world with atmosphere isnt it?

Yes, quite. I think there are drawbacks .. increase power means more weight less integrity and so on. Sure you might have a higher spec overall .. but you earned it by going through the enginering process. I'm really coming to think the only think that needs updating is the UI although you could argue that it's a shade over easy to climb the tiers. That's not necessarily an issue though, it might depend on your career. (and having lots of mats drop on you that you can clear out with an engineer). If you could buy tier unlocks with data - might help (if that's something combat players tend to end up with a surplus of)?

Well, I do agree with you that heat sinks are not luxury items, that's why I wrote: But I do like the idea that there is some stuff that can't be produced by commanders in their ships, using synthesis, but instead is limited to dedicated high tech facilities in stations, like for example SRVs.

If you were allowed to change one thing in Engineering .. to improve engineering for PvP .. what would that be? The only thing I'd change from the Engineer UI .. I think would be; To forget the idea of pinned blueprints, simple as that. If all blueprints provided by unlocked engineers (maybe after you reached tier 2 or have upgraded at least one module with each) showed in right panel, that would be a massive improvement imo. I've spent the last day or two doing some mods on a couple of ships and being honest - on the mechanics of it - I don't know how Engineers could be made a 'more fun' mini game' than it already is is. Blueprints aside, I find it quite an enjoyable process. Obviously you're not going to be getting a real spanner in the game (and a spanner skill game would imo be lame) but I find the general process to be a good emulation and pretty fun to muck about with. I considered suggesting; After buying special effects and artificially climb up the access tiers after spending, I find...

There IS concept art of underwater bases and way back in the day (I was quite vocal about under water exploration beck pre launch) it was officially "on the list" as things for the future. lore wise AFAIK there are 4 ships that i know of which are submersible - there may be more these are just confirmed. the dolphin, the orca and the beluga which are in the game... and the grandaddy to them all the moray star boat. just remember space worthy (built to withstand internal pressure against a low pressure environiment is NOT the same as sea worthy (built to withstand high external pressure and protect a low internal pressure. edit. how did i miss all that. ninja'd so badly...

I agree with most of what you said, apart from the part quoted above: I would probably distinguish between being self-sufficient and being able to repair and produce all and everthing including the kitchen sink. Not being able to restock some items that could be considered a luxury for exploration is a decidedly good design decision, IMHO. Whether heat sinks are those luxury items or not could be argued, of course.

if i were a betting man... i would say.... servers go down around 9am BST on 26th and then back up some time late afternoon early evening. - so i have named a time i am gonna say....... 6pm. If you are the sort to take a day off for the update, i would take the Weds off work (time zone depending of course).

I like the "idea" of engineers. I love the notion of having "long term" content even if it takes me months or years to access that G5 mod of a really hard to find engineer. as this is a positive thread i will leave my issues for the other thread below :)

a cpu under full load is not like a car hitting the rev limiter. if the computer is put together properly with correct voltages and a good cooler if can run with all cores under full load indefinitely (or as long as matters in any practical sense) indeed programs such as cpu burn in or prime are designed to do that, and many would not consider their pc stable unless it CAN run solidly without crashing or over heating if it cant do 24 hrs straight under prime load. (i am more forgiving myself, a 1 hr stable torture test and i am prepared to consider it good enough for me, but i do not do anything important on my rig.) I WISH apps generally were capable of pushing my cpu harder. as it is i normally find my cpu sits there under 40% load whistling dixie whilst my gpu is blowing out of its backside trying to keep up.

yep that is a very good point..... ED is a game built around PvE with PvP on top for those who want it..... For those who insist on it the PvP meta ship is an issue however, so yeah i guess for those they gotta put the grind in. I do not think the PvE game should be gimped however for that subset of players... this is my view and it isnt gonna change and this is probably not the thread to argue that, which is kind of why i didnt mention it ;). (happy to carry on with that in the SOGgy thread however)

@777Driver I tried to reply to your PM however your inbox is full. message as follows regarding meeting up at thargoid base!. "no problem. I am not sure if i can get on or not again tonight but if i can i will. either send me a friend request and i can message you, or keep an eye on the forum and i will pm you if i manage to get on. (if you have emptied your messages) the thargoid ground encounter i had last night was a real unexpected treat which alone made it worth while. its so cool in VR."

This is one way of looking at it... and its valid if you feel you MUST have all the shinies yesterday. but trust me, i do not play anywhere near as much as i once would have (house, job, child and wife etc) but i just dabble now and then... if i fancy playing ED but not sure what i want to do i look at an engineer, see what they want and then do something for them. IMO Engineering to G5 level is designed to be the long game, if it takes you 18 months to get your G5 FSD or Dirty Drives then that is ok. you do not have to get it in the 1st 2 weeks. it has its issues, of that there is no doubt in terms of how it fits into ED (on top of stuff i wrote earlier, another weird 4th wall breaking issue is.... to rank up with them you are forced to do lots of stuff that much of the time you have no intention of keeping. This is the wrong way around. if a client comes to me and asks me to do something for them, and i find out they are just throwing it in the bin after, i do NOT respect them more afterwards!). To...

I don't see what would change on that front. Instance sizes would still be under FD control it's not like we triple the players in each instance bubble
