Company current view on space legs has been known for a year now. Dale just repeated what they have said. No, it does not say never. No, it does not say when. Also other game is delayed because of incompetence of it's developers.

Truth to be told, EVE has never been designed from first person perspective, so it is no surprise they struggled to come up with gameplay for that. That's not exactly problem ED have. But yeah, as example of 'just release something' is right on target. Space legs won't work with 'just release something'. And other scenario is to do awfully lot of work.

Like those massive space battles on EVE which takes like 2 minutes for 1 second to last? No thanks. People pushing for client/server arch simply does not see full picture. 1) client/server arch would slow down ship speeds a lot. It wouldn't increase how many ships you can see at once, not really. Also it would mean severs would be split off and for one shard you would get hundreds of ones. Usual MMO issue when you are on one server and friend is another one. ED at least have theoretical mechanisms - recently working more reliably - to meet someone you want; 2) costs for server renting are HUGE. Basically that would mean most of MT money going for server renting and no to development. Selling copies is just not good enough for games like ED; 3) In the end, peer to peer is problematic mostly because of infrastructure issues in (ironically) old West, like UK or US. In countries where infrastructure is relatively new there's no problem with games like ED. I also expect peer to peer improve with time,...

So this should give you feel that FD *wants* to add them and plan game accordingly. They just don't know when and how. That's called 'future proofing'. They just don't know in full detail how that future will look like.

True. EVE didn't ever get past their half-hearted attempt to introduce it, either. It's no wonder it failed when all it was was a single room you could walk around in and.... *gasp*....SIT ON A COUCH! They did sell that really awesome monocle in the store, though. A cynic might think the whole thing was just a way to drive micro transactions. That's why I want FD to do more than what they've done already with holo-me. Yeah, it's neat, but I expected it to be the first step towards a much much larger first person system within the game.

This. If 3.0 would be real, allowing exploring it would just make fans run wild with fantasies and would support SC cause big time. I don't buy 'quality' claim, not anymore. After 5 years you want to show SOMETHING to go on. This is nothing compared to what even basic premise, initial KS premise promised.

So in nutshell - big CryEngine level, very rudimentary mechanics, some good looking assets, nothing that resembles game loop, nothing that resembles MMO. At this point good looks really won't help CIG. If ED would offer space legs just this hour, CIG would be done for. But as FD have admitted they don't have immediate plans to do so, so CIG might be safe for some time (ironically).

Seems so. I played ME:A a bit last night (starting a new game) just to look at it agian. It really is a decent game. It's definitely got it's issues, but it's still enjoyable for what it is. Too bad...

Avatars does not imply space legs. They might makes us dream about space legs, but it is not unwritten promise about doing them.

It is cynical because...? Last time I remember customisation was very good and FD have put considerable time into it. No?

I never seen it as pledge. But ok, I understand your point there. But Dale did not say anything that wasn't said for at least a year. Granted, about year ago I thought 3.0 will be about space legs and yes, I was disappointed when FD decided they finally need to say something about it and cooled our expectations considerably. And although I don't like to hear those statements, doesn't make them less repeating same statements as before. Also Dale is right on many points - lot of space legs games have failed around us, it is really not that desired feature anymore, there are much more important things to improve, it is very expensive and huge work, and it needs solid plan and reasoning to be done. I still want space legs. But he is right...FD despite recent success does not have pile of money and idle devs to take that risk right now. Looking at whole thing my only problem (and it is big one) is that FD haven't said anything about the future of game for very long time. I really hope Frontier Expo...

If we would assume they have some prototyping done on atmospheric planets, then I suspect they most likely have working render versions of primitive ones in-house at this point. Will they ship with next expansion reminds to be seen (I expect they will, gas giants are hinted by David a lot), but that most likely is 2018 release.

No need for conspiracies, CIG has sunk their own credit of trust long time ago. Also nice to see fresh faces arrive on this thread just for a time of Gamescom. No suspicious at all ;)

When FD has said it is extremely unlikely? All they have said consistently that space legs is something they want to do and want to do right. It is healthy to remind sceptical, but I think it is a bit harsh to jump to conclusions that quickly here.

Emmm...not to defend FD here - I think they are wrong with delaying space legs - but KS never pledged to have space legs in game. Most important feature for many were landing on planets which was major selling point of expansion pass. Also he really didn't say anything different than it has been said for last year - space legs are long way off, they need solid gameplay around it. And they want to focus on close and present tasks. edit: also no one talks about different game, KS or anything like that. edit 2: Holo Me is here because of NPC avatars. They wanted to give us and avatars faces to make universe feel alive. So let's cool down salt a bit.

I want space legs, badly. However I will point out space legs came out fifth (!) on wishlist during great subreddit survey. Yeah, it is statistics, not really scientific way to verify this, but I suspect majority of players want other features more than space legs.

None of those - as they implemented granted - requires huge amount of work as space legs do.

Ship repairs, dead ships can be only revived by leg work, protecting yourself from boarding, EVA to investigate wrecks...I just give considerable amount of ideas around ship itself :) I really hope you guys have tons of ideas for space legs, because it seems even most conservative dreamers on forums here do :) It feels for me that space legs are required to complete ED experience - and yeah, it will take one or even several full expansions to cover the ground, but I think it is definitely worth it. It also feels that frankly dragging feet on space legs is not taking money lying around. It is a lot of work, but is very, very profitable, because walking around, while not related much to gameplay, is very desirable - IF done right of course. But if we look at broader picture, it seems lot of commanders are not that hot on space legs right now - due of other games failing to give good, solid gameplay around them, I believe FD is capable of doing that - so I guess at some amount you are fully justified to...
