    Thanks for testing, that matches my experience. That FSD kick is so strong that I can't boost the BK channel, or it clips and rattles. I'll continue investigating.

    Oh there's plenty of ways to narrow down the search: * Follow a player as they descend to their base. * Estimate where a player launched from if they appear climbing out of the gravity well in supercruise. * Go to common hot spots. Capital systems. The Old Worlds. The Pleiades. Colonia. Shinrarta Dezhra. All planets with engineer bases. Sure, you could hide your bases in some faraway corner (or even outside the bubble, I suppose) but the longer it takes to even just go there, the smaller the utility of the base in the first place. For someone trying to do maximum damage to other players, they don't even need to find Bob's well-hidden and rarely-visited base at the edge of the bubble, they just need to blow up the regularly-used bases in the most efficient and easy to reach locations.

    Yes, this is why I'm trying to collect empirical data from others using the VM channel visualiser between the game and their output device. This is what I'm trying to achieve either by downmixing the 7.0 channels to stereo in Voicemeeter or by disabling centre, side and rear speakers in Windows settings and hoping that Elite splats them onto Front left and right and it comes out much like its headphone stereo mix, and then in both cases isolating the .1 to the BK.

    For the people wondering how their ship could sustain damage even with "low speed" realize your ship is MASSIVE, which means even a slow impact carries a huge amount of energy. Eg, Even an impact at 5m/s of a 2000 T space ship is like getting hit with 25 MJ (KE = 1/2mV^2) of absolute hull damage to your unmodded integrity. Why unmodded? In Elite the game doesn't seems to care how much hull you have when colliding with immovable objects. Hence the game seems to model these collisions as inelastic, which means that all of the energy is converted into deformation of the ship's core frame. This is different from two colliding ships where both objects are movable and of somewhat comparable mass. For the people wondering why their gear isn't buffering the impact, realize that if your gear isn't lined up with the terrain, then you're potentially damaging your landing gear / impinged hull. It would be like jumping into the air, flopping like a fish, landing with your legs at a funny angle, and wondering...

    It's why it's a shame that SRV mechanics aren't in multicrew. Otherwise you could take a multicrew capable vessel, with room for an SRV, to Mengy so he could simply board and be transported back to civilisation. In this case though, since it looks to be a bug, here's hoping support can sort it out. There's probably quite a bit of data involved as well. Would be a shame to lose that.

    The trick is to line up perfectly on a nice flat area, and then toggle FA until you drift via gravity to the surface and the landing gear engages. Eg, NEVER use down thrust or even slow momentum to reach the ground. Toggle only. Ideally you should finish with FA on and the barest passsive downward vector. Speed should still read 0 the whole time. 1 at the most. EDIT: For this to work, FA button must be set to HOLD. Not TOGGLE.

    Looks like something for QA to investigate. I know we don't edit NPC factions in the game world, causes bad things to happen as a result generally. We use to change player faction types upon request up until a few months ago.

    The Empire of course. They have the most interesting lore imho, and their ships look cool. :) Federation is just corporate America projected to its logical extreme into the future. The Alliance's sole defining characteristic is that they don't like the original two superpowers. The Empire, by contrast, has an interesting backstory with the Duval family, exodus, betrayal, etc. They have the most flavor of all.
