Because, essentially, it's window dressing to the backdrop. It's absent because all the other things that give players agency are absent, as the scenery and set-pieces have been centre stage. It's almost as though the game was built to play itself. It's certainly able to operate, without any players present at all. A self-contained microcosm. Because it's never needed to be, to function. What we do, fundimentally doesn't matter. There are no real consequences. Yes you can flip systems, or scan stars or seek blood for the blood god on behalf of some major power. But none of it matters. Because there's no lasting impact. It's all set pieces. We could all immediately stop playing and the universe servers would tick along fine, systems would occasionally flip states, mission boards would keep refreshing, market goods would ebb and flow. The game doesn't need us to function. That's the reality. We are an optional input. Everything is more or less pre-ordained. Even the Thargoid stuff. It's all set...

This is why I love this game. Read the whole series of posts, and just love how people go to extreme efforts to help other players. Well done Chiggy, and congrats Sapyx for getting out of a really tight jam.

It's a bit of an oversimplification. The platform forces some 'choices' on the developer. And that's true for all that try to accomodate console players. I'm all for another slot, but I'm okay with it being a small fee. However I think those asking essentially want it 'for free'. It's important to remember that console players on both platforms must pay a (periodic) subscription fee to gain access to multiplayer such as open, so since they have to pay a tax to access the road, so should we. Again, this isn't being unreasonable. It can be paltry, like US $7-9 per slot or something, for a limited number of slots (eg 2-3). I'm pretty sure those who want everything to be free always won't pay that either, and continue to complain, which makes the question more is this just about some believed implicit right to free stuff, or actually wanting inexpensive 'alt' account access? There's one way to find out. Inexpensive additional commander slots.

Because, essentially, it doesn't. Braben is building a vision; we're just an enabler via funding. Anyone who remembers him talking during Kickstarter would have already seen some alarm bells, because he was, and still is, fundimentally disconnected from the actual implementation of that vision. We just help that happen, and in return, get to potter around in it. Sandro and the entire development team, have to somehow create that vision, whilst simultaneously develop something people can actually play. Most people aren't going to be happy with essentially static set pieces. I'm pretty sure David would be chuffed without anyone playing it at all. Just this amazing universe doing it's thing entirely devoid of actual players. Because we're essentially not required for it to function. The BGS and universe servers don't need us. We don't actually matter. This is something that is fundimentally difficult for people to grasp. It's also why people tend to pitch David against Sandro, with the whole good-cop...

I thought this was just 'a few commanders'. How long is the list now? Just curious. Problem with lists, is that they tend to grow. If you have to start scrolling, well, best of luck. o7

There's a metaphor in there somewhere, probably. I am glad you enjoy solo, however there's as little need to either admit or explain it, as anyone in open. There will be no 'true' offline mode. So let it go. The 'true' offline games are becoming exceedingly rare, and mostly for good reasons. You don't have to justify a thing. Just enjoy the game; and try to understand there are others who also want to play the game, but that they may have differing goals. Just as it's important to you, it's important to them. And to us as a whole. Try private groups, though, if you want to be part of something bigger; many of the player groups are BGS focused, rather than player-vs-player focused. Reach out, I'm sure some would love to have you on board. Also Open is nowhere near as dangerous as is painted. Or as terrible. It just has more people in it. That can always go a few different ways, and it automatically carries more risk. But that risk is typically trivial to manage. Remember, it's not just you, there are...

Practice. Much practice. It's like anything; enough repetition and if you have aptitude for learning, you adapt. I fly flight assist off and mostly don't hit things, how the heck the finest of us fly fa-off, like it's no big deal is a constant source of amazement. And a good motivator to be less bad at it. :) FA-ON teaches overcorrection habits that are hard to shake; that and getting your brain to be cognisant of the fact that your vector and your angle of attack, are typically almost never the same. I will be learning for a very long time. But I don't miss having the ship feel likes it's flying in a tub of jello. Every time it's on now, the ship feels like a straight jacket. I had no idea how bad it was until I swapped over.

Dearest Santa Sandro, I have been a very bad good boy and am writing to you to ask please may I have an Asp II and Military Drive with just so many guns diplomacy delivery this year? Because I really want to teach them the true meaning of critical systems failures Christmas! Also, you have a very nice hat. Thank you! ~kof.

Same coin, different sides. Interdicting the same player repeatedly in order to interrupt (regardless of what they are doing) is potentially harassment. If you do that to shoot at them, or not, doesn't really change that it's mass interdiction of the same commander for 'purposes'. It's the same thing. It's the same thing. That it's the same thing isn't in question; it's the usual justifications and emotional baggage that come with it that have created so many pages. Frontier don't ultimately care, though. Particularly if this is within the bounds of a CG system. The developer built the interdiction module on purpose. It's designed to be used. Unless it's creating server breaking issues or compromising the client? It's all fair game. They have barely even responded to the pad mining thing yet. Almost certainly at once find it at both amusing, and a little bit naughty. It's creative and Frontier does tend to like people being creative. To an extent, at least. One day, commanders are going to realise...

My favorite quote from the article: This is a prime example of why David Braben is my favorite human being in software development. He is using his platform not just to entertain, but to expand the minds of people who already have a passion for space. The intuitive understanding about the structure and size of the galaxy that almost all Elite players have is heads and shoulders above what the average Astrophysics undergrad knew with the internet of 20 years ago. And for anyone who is interested, here are Maxwell's Equations: ^^^ These are a cornerstone of classical physics and modern engineering that made everything we know today possible. I think my favorite result of which was a prediction of the speed of light as being determined by the speed of propagation of the electromagnetic field.

not in terms of efficiency (tonnage per hour as well as cr/h), as tested at several mining CGs by several commanders. pythons beat cutters, condas and t9s - and clippers. people usually overestimate the importance of cargo space and travel time to station, and underestimate the time spend turning between the asteroids, waiting for distributor recharge or the collectors keeping up. mining corvettes are definetly better than a python in my experience, though (large powerdistributor, enough internals to match active collectors and number of sustained mining lasers, good cargo capacity, and turns well between the asteroids).

    - why would you put a powerplant into a build which exceeds the power used? the heatefficiency fully depends on quality (A-E), not on size. - the "undersized" fueltank of that build allows exactly the same jumps as a condas standard fueltanks (4 jumps). do you put extra fueltanks on your conda when exploring? (i don't)

Aye, question for you. Just started playing this game, and saw this video of yours:

I'm actually at this exact black hole, but I'm unable to get it to distort it as much as you. Any tips?
