It could also be argued that it improves the experience of the many by reducing the likelihood of being instanced with the few.

    Indeed.

That assumes that the other players in the instance would suffer, rather than benefit, from the presence of a player that has blocked a player that won't then be instanced with them - both outcomes are possible.

Some players would seem to deserve being blocked. If instancing was permanent it might be a bigger issue - but it's not - instances join and split as necessary - with players coming and going. I'd expect that they have considered many - and still consider that the benefits outweigh the downsides.

.... which might lead those players that are preyed on by the players blocking the bounty hunters to friend the bounty hunters - which might leave those being sought by the bounty hunters rather lonely....

Whether they are disruptive or not would seem to be for the player doing the blocking to decide, not those that don't like CMDRs being blocked. It would seem that Frontier consider that the benefits (to the player-base as a whole) outweigh the downsides - as the recent enhancement to the HUD with the live stream particularly drawing attention to the history tab and the fact that players can be blocked from there would seem to suggest.

Even if players did engage in pre-emptive blocking, the names of the CMDRs that got blocked would probably be gleaned from posts / videos that appear - crowing and belittling other players - put simply, if players seek to be notorious, they should not expect there to be no consequences for such behaviour. .... or broadcast in Local (per your following post)....

I'd expect that the population of Open is one of their internal metrics (not that they share that information) - and the measures either already in place or soon to be put in place would seem to be designed to make more players want to play there. I doubt that the block feature would be removed this long after launch....

Whether it is abuse or a side effect encountered from it working as intended is a matter of opinion. The game already makes matches for instancing based on some set of criteria - if a player is in a Wing with the player, a friend of the player or blocked by the player (or some combination of these) are just more criteria to be taken into consideration by the matchmaking system. The reasons for this decline cannot be determined without doubt (without other information to which we are not privy).

Given that Frontier drew our attention to the blocking system in the Multi-Crew Beta stream (when explaining the revised Comms HUD panel), I'd expect that facilitating blocking was on their agenda - and, as Adam advised that blocking had not changed, it would seem that reduced likelihood of being instanced with a blocked player has been the intention from the outset (see the quote from Sandro above). Interesting, my recollection may be inaccurate then. What did you use to block them, i.e. which sequence of UI interactions? I still can't find a way of blocking a player from the Main Menu (for non friends, that is). .... probably because, before the in-game UI block capability, people had blocked players on their friends lists which works against

Hi there, They are intended to be, but they conflict with rank up missions sometimes. This is something I'm actively looking into for 2.4, along with improving the reliability of spawning war support missions for both factions involved in a conflict. Im also looking into improving the variety of missions on a board, spreading missions out more over the different factions, and improving the reliability of spawning rank up missions in general. Most of this is either in progress or complete, but it needs a good amount of testing before it goes live and makes such wide changes that we're not going to be dropping it before the next major update.

i think you have no idea how to outfit exploration ships. 40 ly plotted jumprange on a python includes a shieldgenerator above optimal mass, A-grade thrusters to take advantage of that sweet strong vertical thrusters, 2 srv ... sc handling close to an AspE, no shortage of optional internals. if your explonda does 30 ly, your build must be really weird... i get 45 out of mine in a most luxury outfitting, again shield above optimal mass, 3 cabins, fighter bay, 2 srv ... even a collector limpet controller ... A class thrusters at minimum mass... strong enough to survive a station attack (tested, cause illegal passenger).

This has been the case for a long while now, and was uncovered during the Salome event. It's pretty well documented. Denying it won't speed up the fix either ;)

Thank you, Golgot, for your answer and especially the excerpt (so digging through a reddit thread isn't necessary)! Well, if it truely proves correct what the reddit poster states, I really hope FDev take a close look on these results and implements their approach on space legs accordingly! The sheer existance of such solutions restors my faith in ED's VR future quite a bit, to be honest. I can't play ED without VR any more and a whole game mechanic that almost inevitably causes nausea wasn't something to look forward to. Very useful thread, this one! :)

Has frontier said whether spacelegs will include VR support? I imagine that if they do have VR in FPS mode, that will be a major hurdle to the release, since creating a viable platform for FPS VR where you can reorient and translate in 6 degrees of freedom (x,y,z,φ,θ,ψ). Granted we can already do this in ships and in an SRV, but even that view is fairly anchored, and driving in VR already gives even the strongest stomachs a case of the willies.

In space, there are no walls. Or borders! :D Unless you count the exclusion zone, but hopefully Frontier are working on a cure for that too. ;)

Indeed, that is one slow courier build. In reality, a well flown Courier even one that only went 540 should have zero problems evading any FDL. Even a rinzler type like in the video above. But yeah, as for the OP's plan, the idea to interdict is good, but if you are simply dying every time, then you will only slow them down maybe 10%. In these little "nothing ships", it takes them only 30 seconds to submit, kill you, and then jump back to SC. That leaves them with about 5 minutes of uninterrupted murder spree while you fiddle with the rebuy screen, and jumping back to SC and trying to reacquire a target. Now, if you instead build a ship that can actually chain interdict the snot out of them, and also lead them on a merry chase, or even fight them until you choose to wake away, then you are tying up a nearly unlimited amount of their time, the more gaankers involved in chasing you the bigger your multiplier effect. Remember, it's important to let them think they have a chance to kill you so...

Maybe, but a couple of companies in Germany aren't exactly clean from what I can tell. :p http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/soziales/volkswagen-audi-porsche-bmw-und-daimler-unter-kartellverdacht-a-1159052.html I'm not sure what that will mean for Brexit, but I doubt that those companies are going to have any leverage over the German government in the near future if they're all trying to avoid fines or worse. They ain't coming to the rescue as Davis predicted.

Virtue signalling is a bit of a shibboleth that reveals people who drink conservative pundit kool-aid. It's not a real paychological concept, but one columnists's fake sciency name for the idea that "male feminists are just pretending to be such to get inside the panties of leftist women". It's pretty funny to use that concept in apparent seriousness, and then call others patronising.

Aye, question for you. Just started playing this game, and saw this video of yours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=72&v=7txixfOI0tE

I'm actually at this exact black hole, but I'm unable to get it to distort it as much as you. Any tips?
