However, I agree, it should mean something in game. It just doesn't, but I also don't think messing with 'time to' variables is necessarily the right way to go about it. Nor do I think you should only do 'X' to be able to increase your rank. It's not as if jump and honk is any more meaningful. Until the Exploration gameplay loop is more engaging, I see no reason to limit rank to what it is. They're essentially the same premise, go to 'X' area, scan, come back and turn in. The difference is the variables that passengers introduce to that loop makes it slightly more engaging and it also encourages/forces me to look at things I may not have seen otherwise. If, and only if, Exploration was more complex and deeper than it is would I be able to begin to agree that the rank should solely be based on discoveries.
