I would go with something like this for combat: You can use this shield build with any kind of build though (trade/blockade runs/bounty hunting/etc). The beauty of it is that the regen is so fast that all an NPC needs to do is run out of WEP for a few secs and you almost don't even need the SCBs. It can take quite a lot of punishment, even going toe to toe with the biggest baddest ships you'll find in a high CZ.

Because this doesn't take into consideration those who play on a console but not have an online subscription. :)

    Not if you're already Elite.

I agree 100%. Furthermore, I think the entire scan/discovery/jump/route-plotting mechanics need to be thrown out and started over from scratch so exploration is more hands-on and travel itself requires actual planning and benefits from group effort. Going anywhere humans never been before should feel like edge-of-the-galaxy exploration does. If this means throwing out all previous data, I'm more than fine with that.

Dr Kaii, long time no see. I agree with your conclusion that proc gen lacks believable diversity. In fact I agreed with it a long long time ago. Before Distant World's was a twinkling in an Erimusian eye, I felt that exploration was already dead since it was purely photo tourism with a very limited palette and absentee mechanics. I'll say it again because it bears repeating. The thing that is lacking is not just variation or "content", it's the way we interact with this content. I mean really who cares if a planet is shinier, or transparent, or a unique shade of red? Unless that color/texture variation indicates some tweak to a gameplay element, then the color variation itself is meaningless lipstick on the same underlying lifeless mannequin ad nauseum. As for having played 1000s of hours and cheerleading Exploration, I am not sure whether that helped generate more necessary attention on Exploration or served to stall advancements for Exploration by giving the illusion that players were happy...

"Pinch of salt" should be FD's, and the forum's, motto. ;) :D

Having an SLF explorer unit with unlimited range for scouting would be the bee's knees.

The third image reminds me of NMS, so no thanks. :D I agree with the OP tbh. I would prefer a tad more colour than we have at the mo. However, I presume that FD are trying to get everything in place before improving this side of the game ... but it can't come soon enough IMO. :)

Ziggy makes a good point about balance/effort, but it should be noted that several player groups created highly successful in-game trade systems for engineering goods back when some of the ingredients were commodities. It was an interesting meta-game that created some fun drama and wild west type standoffs in a completely unregulated market where reputation and force of arms were the only mitigating factors (well... networking shenanigans played an unwelcome role as well). If you could trade engineering goods face to face (not in an anonymous hub) then it would spawn several kinds of emergent "mining" and "trading" meta-economies along with plenty of drama and player interaction. Goods could be traded for other goods or money or whatever people deemed was valuable. That seems like it would address both the balance/effort issue and creating more meaningful interactions/gameplay.
