Klingon. One of the main reasons I recommend people who won't play open at least try it, is because ED is a still a new, raw and relatively basic platform. As such main (Thargoid) 'story lines' are being told more slowly than they otherwise would be, because the framework for them is being built. It's like reading a book while an engineer is putting the printing press together for the first time. So I adopt other players literally as "game content" even if we don't interact. The Fuel Rats are a story for me, so are Buckyball Racers, Distant Worlds and so on. Avoiding other players, through mode switching into an alternate space, for me cuts out a very fertile source of entertainment and it's a lot to ask of the ED platform (under construction) to substitute that kind of fertility. If it ever can .. completely. So I'm Klingon (maybe Samurai, possibly Cimmerian). I estimate my worth by the trial I went through to get it, "Crom, make my enemy strong so I gain honour from victory". Some player ships are...

The beauty of procedural generation .. unless you're within sight of them, there could be a billion blades of grass, but the engine just ignores them, too far away to care. The flipside is you need a good number of ways to interact (and large enough number of assets to try to avoid same-ness) but all objects and levers must come in 'classes'. It's also why (I believe) this stage we're at now is a bit painfully slow ... FD need to be confident that you can hit the wall of the outpost, interact with the datapoint, shoot that barnacle, as these are basic classes of object that can be morphed into something else at a later date. Object classes going in at this stage though means FD need to predict the future. I'm sure a lot of effort goes into making sure you can morph a barnacle into a tiger, or the stellar forge will run into big trouble later.

Oh yeah, blimey! Murder is illegal. You are allowed to kill other ships but only in circumstances where they are wanted (and have a bounty on them) or in a war situation. Target a ship, point your nose at it and wait for a passive scan to finish. You'll get their name, rank and an indication, bottom left in your HUD, clean = no bounty (don't shoot) .. wanted = you can kill them and claim a bounty, under contacts in most major stations. There is a special piece of equipment, Kill Warrant Scanner that you can also use to scan wanted ships. This often gives more payout because bounties can be issued locally, or galaxy wide. A KWS scan means you get paid both. (As I mentioned wars; civil wars happen between local factions as they vie for power. When there's a civil war, combat zones crop up and when you drop into one, approach it like you do to any station, you need to pick a side (right panel, functions tab under 'faction'.) Shoot only red blips (opposing faction) and claim vouchers, again under...

I don't know about that actually. In a thousand years Earth will, quite realistically, be almost unrecognisable (especially after the Nuclear wars of the twenty fifth, Hyper Tsunami's of the twenty ninth century, and so on). Just 100 years ago the car was a fairly novel idea? I think it will be open world, like it is now but that's why Earthlikes are a way off. I think we might see mega fauna on ammonia worlds etc., we're already seeing evidence of Thargoids. I hope there will be a monorail system .. and I DO want to hunt rare beasts to the edge of extinction for their priceless toenails, throwing the rest of their inedible bodies away, just for the big game hunter wastage of it.

I suspect it wouldn't help development come faster anyway. Frontier would have to maintain a number of different builds and that takes more resourcing away from pure design, while the basic game (in your model) would be asked to share assets (some assets .. not that one .. and this asset is shared by exploration, mining and pew-pew but not by trading and Tharg hunting etc, etc .. and etc. .. YUCK! Said programmers .. everywhere) The spiritual version ; For me one major draw of ED is the diversity of interests different people have, while all sharing the same environment. I'm basically peaceful in the game but I still love that shenagians are going on elsewhere, fuel rats here, CG's there, giving the environment flavour and knowing that any person could move into any other thing at any time and so could I even if I don't want to! I'm looking for the right word here but 'sterility' springs to mind when losing that. I have lifetime expansion pass so would make no difference but this kind of career...

I'm a Ben in real life and you can believe 'Mr Benn', confused the heck out of me as a small child. (Though it did make more sense when I visited Japan, much later, Tuub san) I hope Mr Benn, The Game by Frontier Developments .. will bring 21st Century standards of hygiene though Seriously because in all that time, and after all those adventures he never ONCE changed his underpants!

Your acceleration is severely limted by the planet's gravity. The FSD warps space, and any gravity fields you find yourself inside resist changes in that field (it can make it impossible to slow down too). If you continue vertically away from the planet, to the point where your ship switches out of orbital flgiht mode, you probably have enough speed by then to get around the planet relatively quickly. While you're in orbital flight mode (shown by the horizontal lines, the reticule on your HUD) the fastest way around the planet is with the reticule dead centre of the blue (0 degrees). I find it quite a nice way to fly .. not an especially fast way to get around a planet but satisfying, to watch the craters go by.

the Thargoid Queen LAUGHS at humanity's obsession with good punctuation While she lines up the Death Ray ... ! Maybe the message fell from the dead hand of a courier. Or has been copied and pasted several times, in impatient effort to steal it from a secure facility and allow Commanders to inform themselves. What some might call wall o text .. I might call common ground, that exists in whatever interactions may occur, between our respective representatives in the void. aka. I can dig it OP +1

Operation Genesis was/is a good Jurassic Park game, had fun with that. Kind of fits with Planet Coaster / Universal IP too, true. Though a futuristic FPS game could also gel with (what I imagine to be) the future of ED, more in terms of 'complimentary development' than 'just' IP extension? It's been a while since Dredd vs Death, and Rebellion did put game rights up for sale a short while back (around the same time as Frontier's announcement of having a secret they wouldn't announce, actually). Could we see a return of the stone faced neo-fascist oppressor himself?? I don't know .. but drokk I hope so! May you live in interesting times! (Chinese Proverb) :D

Ahhh. I can see you're a discerning customer! I have the ship for you ... You've tried the glass canon, you've tried the passenger liner, you've even tried the trader .. but have you ever considered working the land? What sectionable Commander doesn't want to reconnect with the enviroment and blow it to bits? Yes it's dirty, yes it's dusty .. but there's no more honest way to earn a living than providing the materials, upon which whole civilisations are built. Here at Winterwalker Enterprises we want to equip you with everything you'll ever need to extract resources and be as industrious as your ambitions dream to be. "Listed Ordinary" (Python) has a 96 ton hold, 7 slot hopper, class 2 mining laser and rapid collector limpets. Just sit back and enjoy the view while the money literally flies in! But we didn't stop there. Your new mining rig has defensive capabilities with heavy shielding, military levels of quality in her bulkheads, not one but THREE beam lasers and a torpedo rack to send those...

Me too. Not looking a gift horse in the mouth at all but "if you have gold paint for any of your ships, each has a new golden alternative added, look in livery" might have been simpler. Still though, if it gets people talking .. Maybe it's a social experiment by Thargs, in preparation for predicted invasion ; "We have ways of making your ISP talk! .. All your geo-locations, are now belong to us!" ?? eek.

If you want to limit your speed for stability, why not lower landing gear anyway? Sure, there's nowhere to land nearby but .. seeing as it's deep space, nobody will see you, either. Umm.

I agree. The true nature of Engineers is in the COMBINATION OF MODS you add across modules, giving your ship a unique set up. Saving weight on FSD and sensors so you can have a heavier, more armoured powerplant, for one example. And if you want to know exactly what you're going to get, go to a ship outfitting; Tolerances (and unpredictability) are a thing, especially in experimental and even more so in extreme engineering. Just be glad your FSD doesn't spit its guts out ...

No, just don't expect to do it 'soon'. Not only are there the atmospheric effects to build, the plants, the animals, the lakes and rivers but varied human settlements and .. most importantly, something to do too. Clickbait OP, sorry.

Don't hold your breath. Agreed... to an extent. Adding content - probably not. Taking control of some basic functionality through supplied APIs - yes. The problem is not that the game can play itself. A self-sustaining simulation is required.

Hi fella, you wanted a reminder to share your market data dump on Dropbox

    Thanks again,

  9. Missed your post as I was away from Ed and the forums for a few days. Thanks for your kind words. Good to see that I'm not the only one with 'frustation'. Thanks for your trade routes, I will try them, if/when I have the money for them as they are quite expensive iirc. As I said in the OP or later on I'm using slopey's trade tool atm but even that doesn't get me going. Luckily next week on the 24th PB2 will be released with a 3 systems. I guess the market will flatten quit quickly again after that so I MUST play it directly on that evening.

I will start this evening again if I can manage it. I will keep you informed. Thanks for the offer of flying with me in the future. Would be nice. But for that to happen 'communication' must be in the game first. I think comm. will change ED quit a bit.

    Hi Wolverine,
I just wanted to say thanks for posting your 'frustration' message on the forums. Your comments and the following replies have helped me a lot to stay calm and think clearly. I'm also PB-frustrated as an 80's speccy Elite player :-)
I've been grinding on the Chango-Dahan route, making a relatively safe 343 profit per unit for trading Tantalum from Dahan to Chango and then with Domestic Appliances from Chango to Dahan for 79 unit profit. Not great, but good for docking training!
Please let me know if you have any success gaining monies from the comments in that forum thread or elsewhere. I'd be very happy to fly with you into a scuffle in the future - but need to get a stick and brush up on my dogfighting skills first!

    Trader Ted (Ed.)
