    I think so too. The overall isn't likely to change overnight and the galaxy go on developing, along the lines we have with new variants each time that you don't see unless you drop in on a USS etc. When Aliens return too, I think there will be times when 'knowing your enemy' is less of a thing. (I basically know which ships I can take on at the moment, Thargoids I think might be less obvious).

    I think it is based on gravity but USS kind of illustrates what happening. I think pretty certain the FSD forms some sort of warp bubble that allows you to fly faster than light. Real world experience might lead you to think it takes vast effort to hold that bubble up but actually I think in ED it takes the engine effort to increase or decrease the bubble, almost as if space kind of plastic, push to open, push to close. There's a limit to how quickly the engine can grow a bubble (bigger warp bubble, faster speed) and this is affected by gravity, which tends to prevent a <change> in the warp bubble, making it harder to accelerate (when space is sticky) and harder to slow down, as when you target a USS and you're close in, the engine can't disassemble your warp bubble quickly enough (without imploding) and you overshoot. That's my theory anyway.

    A bit smaller obviously but I'm at dangerous with Imperial Eagle so, another PvE option for you? One medium beam on top, pair of engineered missile racks under for me. Obviously as much hull tanking, thruster and power distributor engineering as you can. Mine has a 3Ly range (!) which you can do better these days because it's a cheap ship to transfer around. (Keeps you off the traffic reports too, all very hush hush). Good giggles in CZ's - I don't do RES myself, basically ever - I also play a slow-earning lifestyle, short range system patrol, interdicting ships with bounties on intercept sorties. You do have to stop to reload/repair so it's not the most credits per hour you can get .. but recommended by me because bagging your first gunship / clipper is a good feeling and in your Cobra (one ship class up) you can quicker earn back cash for rebuys if you have a bad run of luck.

    On this, and also speaking to having some pirate-player play in RES sites. One of the earliest features in ED to get you into contact with a battle, and places to 'farm', if there was to be tweaking of the RES make up (and a big subject / technical challenge I think) I'd love to see a discussion on whether RES's could be a bit more transient? Maybe lasting for a period of time, fading away (reintensifying) but eventually timing out, to be replaced by a new RES somewhere else. Fine, but acting a bit less like a single location where pirates and miners go to die, when ED launched you might have thought, 'hey I was enjoying that' and there weren't as many other game options. By now - I feel - there's enough ship traffic / USS / mission around to offer a few more alternatives, and RES on/off could (arguably) afford to be a bit more dynamic?

    One reason I'm not sure about this is that dinosaurs are an interest in themselves. The game only has to be a medium good builder game in a way; If the dinos are really well done, that can elevate the game to classic. JPOG still my example, the park management side was maybe nothing special but the creatures having their own fascination, fortifies.

    Probably you're looking at the Power Play map (looks like this). On the left of the screen, in the map menu, select the View tab. You can choose to view Realistic (which represents the galaxy with stars), Map (which lists systems according to type of government, economy and local factions there) and Power play. This is specialist probably for advanced players. Powerplay works as a middle tier faction; with Alliance / Federation / Empire being the 3 Major Factions and groups that control individual stations being 'local factions' .. powers are a bit more like a regional mafia in between. Probably .. Map .. is the most useful view, speaking generally.

    For me Operation Genesis (surely the best) really nailed a few things. For example, though you had to park manage customers, stopping the dinosaurs from tearing each other to shreds (the dino-sim side of it) was for me the really good bit. I have a copy of the incredibly beautiful Planet Coaster and the idea of a more advanced people + creature simulation .. especially if mixed with a really snazzy dinosaur encyclopedia with EVERYTHING we know about dinosaurs to hand .. gives me a fair level of goosebumps. It would be nice to see PC lvel park design creativity available too but for me a big draw to JPOG was the people side build simplicity. You could quickly throw down paths and complete themed shops, instantly the park is open and looks good, so you can get on with what you want to be doing .. which is looking at the dinosaurs and building suicidal safaris through the Carcharodontosaurus enclosure. The Path system in Planet Coaster, while amazing for creatives, does take some getting to grips...

    Alliance does not allow slavery. Neither do the Federation, or Independent systems. You will find them traded though, smuggled in .. Search Slaves and Your Star System;

    An eminently quotable quotation, quoted. I like the 75% autopilot too. With a kind waypoint programmer exec control that gets you off the stick and avoids cramp but keeps you at the helm. As for more tea vicar .. ? Could easily be, really funny.

    True true. Though maybe still an idea to keep a fast picket, ship on standby. I myself have already scoped out a nice, out of the way earhlike world to hopefully dodge any press gangs - the big three factions have so much to lose you see. And no doubt interesting alien technologies, any survivors manage to blow off Tharg ships, could see a major scrap over. Interesting times ladies and gentle Commanders. Interesting times.

    I've had a bit of a think about this before. I definitely don't think you should know what the mods are but I do think there's a maybe case, for knowing that a scanned ship has 'some' kind of engineer mod onboard. (It might have a slightly skewed EM signature or something in lore-wise). It's a bit too much info, I think for various reasons but to know too much about an opponent takes away chance of nasty surpises and encounters become predictable. If you only know there's some kind of mod, you'll get an idea of the type of player good but as mod could be just FSD/thrusters, you don't get a full read of their capability.

    Apart from Security Ships. If I'm a pirate they deserve to die, cargo or no and I think players should get something positive (ie. not just a higher price on their head) for bagging 'their' enemy. The thrust for me is there's no cannon fodder at all for a pirate life in RES areas, which clean bounty hunters do get, in spades. Might even reduce ganking too imo .. for the devil makes that kind of work, for idle hands? Need not be overly complex thing to do I think (no special ship or RES classes, fleet AI or anything silly) just one extra way of counting some hits on targets. Worst programming bit likely being cash in at blackmarket rather than station contacts. Even if there are more targets for player pirates though Security Ships, still a pew-pew handful. --- proposal: on entering RES only one security murder by player is added to active bounty (v bounty farming). Security Kill credits are given to player, as a blackmarket bounty equivalent.

    Yep. Very bad etiquette .. pad blocking is a fat head thing to do imo. Strangely though I'm not all that sold on the game despawning ships like this, even if people do miss mission deadlines and things. If the universe is occupied, why should you be guaranteed a parking space .. every-single-time? If I don't just go to a different station and if I'm still in range when the Cmdr does push a button, I'd like the station to alert me. Might be able to follow him off the pad and teach him .. er .. some manners?

  9. Missed your post as I was away from Ed and the forums for a few days. Thanks for your kind words. Good to see that I'm not the only one with 'frustation'. Thanks for your trade routes, I will try them, if/when I have the money for them as they are quite expensive iirc. As I said in the OP or later on I'm using slopey's trade tool atm but even that doesn't get me going. Luckily next week on the 24th PB2 will be released with a 3 systems. I guess the market will flatten quit quickly again after that so I MUST play it directly on that evening.

    I will start this evening again if I can manage it. I will keep you informed. Thanks for the offer of flying with me in the future. Would be nice. But for that to happen 'communication' must be in the game first. I think comm. will change ED quit a bit.

    I just wanted to say thanks for posting your 'frustration' message on the forums. Your comments and the following replies have helped me a lot to stay calm and think clearly. I'm also PB-frustrated as an 80's speccy Elite player :-)
    I've been grinding on the Chango-Dahan route, making a relatively safe 343 profit per unit for trading Tantalum from Dahan to Chango and then with Domestic Appliances from Chango to Dahan for 79 unit profit. Not great, but good for docking training!
    Please let me know if you have any success gaining monies from the comments in that forum thread or elsewhere. I'd be very happy to fly with you into a scuffle in the future - but need to get a stick and brush up on my dogfighting skills first!
