I love mines, but I agree they need a tweak. What I have been trying to do lately is dump ten cargo and a handful of mines mixed in. So they're part of the radar clutter. But it hasn't proved useful yet. Maybe if chaff had an additional function of creating ghosts in the Scanner. Fire chaff and more "targets" appear in the Scanner but as you resolve them they disappear. Too few hits. Too easy to avoid, but they feel like they should be a good thing.

True, working directly against the own Faction was never fun. I was basically presented with the choice of "ugly vs. evil". Fail the most effective Missions against my Faction to create raw negative Input (with all downsides) - or make Allies with upto 6 other Factions and face the Grind-a-thon of pushing all these up just to compress the own Faction down (which also has tight limits). So in end, I was rather being efficient with a calculated amount of effort and the known downsides as mandatory cleanup items to work. It just ended up being the most viable way of direct Influence Control inside a tight Influence Target band, without costing me all day to work only such a single System.

Schlack got it right, it's indeed (albeit drastically) diminishing returns when hitting it. And it counts per-System as well as per-Faction. I personally always treated it like a hard 5% cap, simply because that's exactly how it felt many many times. It was also tested with massive "overkill" type test inputs, always resulting in either non-existent or absolutely miniscule moves beyond those 5%. So if your BGS Inputs of any specific type reach a pre-calculated/benchmarked ~5% within any given System for a single Faction, it's clearly best to individually move on either to another activity type or work another System for the preferred Faction. Otherwise, it's very easy to waste enourmous amounts of effort as an individual Player - with extremely little or no additional gain. I never got around to fully test it, but at minimum, those are different Activity types carrying individual Caps : - Bounty Hunting - Combat Bonds (War System only)

Hm, dunno... It's basically still cashing in a considerable amount of Reputation, so it requires a very positive effort to recoup that Rep loss. You'll see (100% Allied) that failing 7-9 Missions will put you instantly into the mid-friendly level - instantly limiting the amount of follow-up Passenger Missions you could pick up. Failing a 2nd stack of Passenger Missions is very likely to push you back all the way into Cordial. And typically that's the end of the line, simply due to not getting Missions anymore. Back in those days (method was applied to keep us down low in 2 Systems), it took me quite a bit of effort to fail 2 full Stacks and recoup that Rep loss per BGS Cycle. Never was able to fail a 3rd stack, as this was just unfeasible. So in terms of "offensive use", the method has very distinct limitations.

Quite a while ago, failing was as simple as manually abandoning a Mission, in order to get the full negative effect - "cashing in Reputation for -Inf". That got changed, however, and abandoning a Mission got nerfed significantly in terms of negative Inf effect (just a rough estimate to approx. ~10% of an actual failed Mission due to Mission parameters). If I remember correcly, that change came along with Smugglers picking up large stacks of Missions, abandoning them and then selling the goods... recouping their Rep loss and making it a widespread Credit-making Exploit... at least the change occurred sometime within that timeframe for all I know. The "proper Mission Failure" and its effect remained in place unchanged, however. So properly failing a Mission (Fail-trigger of Mission reached or Timer runs out) remained the only thing to retain 100% of the negative BGS effect that this Mission holds. Abandoning them even in very large numbers, however, does indeed fairly little on Infuence (full effect...

AFAIK people who use the blocking function avoid only two types of Players : - antisocial Griefing Exploiters/Cheaters (cue Reverb Cascading Mines inside Stations, Station Rammers, Engineer Base Gankers) etc. - People who create Threads claiming Players who don't like to play with cheaters/exploiters are Carebears(tm) or "avoid challenge" and similar nonsense Based on what I've heard, it's a very successful method to keep such riffraff out. Rumors have it, it's so successful even, that riffraff gets salty enough to head straight into this Forum and spread some crocodile tears o.0 I'd call that Working as intended. You get out what you put in, simple as that.

The permits are indeed a bit shaky on the lore. (this description would suggest there are "Alternative means" to gain access, although to this date none are known to exist). I don't think there's any official wording as to who actually "programs" our FSD to honor System Permits. On the "Requires Unknown Permit" issue, it's 100% Gamey. "Future Content Area". Technically it should read "requires Future Client Update" ;)

Especially when there's Independent Traffic pushing your Faction up (or worst-case someone intentionally acting to sabotage your intentions) and working against your planned Retreat, there's another and more effective Option : Fail stacks of VIP Passenger Missions (need to be type : does not react well to danger or Secretive). Fill up a suitable Ship loaded full with Missions and depart the Outpost/Station. Either dangle the Ship carefully against the Outpost/Station until it reaches ~70% Hull or less (makes PAX unhappy) - or hop into a RES/Signal Sources and repeatedly get scanned (makes the Secretive PAX unhappy). When all Missions have failed, return to dock. Result : all Missions properly failed (full BGS effect) and there's no fines involved. Time needed : a few Minutes. It's AFAIK the only way to properly (full effect) fail Missions within this short time. Caviat : this will cost quite a bit of Reputation, but that's typically recovered with handing in a single bigger Bounty Voucher. Just...

Goemon noticed it, and I've confirmed a few times. I don't know how hand crafted the BGS is out there, but there's some funny stuff happening in it. Weird commodities list, strange choice of govt. type, co-located with fungal growths and barnacles. Yeah. Something's up. Can you elaborate on the "underground slavery" in the Alliance? AFAIK the only Alliance slave trade is from some CMDRs trying to get rich. Not condoned or available except to sell on the black market. And same out there. No slaves for sale, but they're being brought in by NPCs.

What is still in the Lore and what is retconned out? In: Mic Turner and Meredith Argent are founders of the Alliance. Probably Out: Meredith Argent was the head of a HUGE ship building enterprise AAAI based on New Rossyth in Alioth. (No sign of Alliance shipyards, or ships, but I really hope Frontier bring this back In) In: Meredith Argent was the scion of old (industrial) money, her ancestors are mentioned in old reports of 'Caker Rebellions'. During the period she is involved in "Caker Cells" they receive massive funding. (Caker = old name for Alliance rebels) Probably In: Mic Turner was killed in Plieone in 3252 (by INRA).
