You can out turn them, but you have to use the flanking technique I described earlier in the thread. Or some other similar Jockeying method. If you simply stay aligned with them and try to out pitch their pitch then they will usually win because every time they turn a few degrees while backing up a hundred meters, they increase the distance you need to move to flank them by several hundred meters. This isn't cheating, it's just geometry. They augment their ability to face you by backing up, thus...

The only way that the NPCs cheat in combat is by high waking when when their engines are malfunctioning and they're spinning out of control. And also in being able to track us, when we can't track them. Other than this, the NPCs play by the same set of limitations that we do, except that we get engineered weapons. They don't. So really, it's we PVE player CMDRs that are "cheating" ;)

Yes, I agree. I think this stuff needs more internal testing, regardless of the risk of leaks. If necessary the designers and devs who already know what is going in should get together and do some formal multi-player testing. I suspect it's the multi-player angle that isn't getting tested enough at the moment, and it's clear that there are enough issues with instancing and such that they can't afford to exclude it from betas and just release it (relatively) untested.

To play the devil's advocate, and as a software developer myself, I can fully understand why FD choose not to comment. Anything they say is either going to invite further questions and criticism and/or create expectations that wind being treated as promises by the community. So they can't really say more than what the support staff have already said on the bug reports: "we've seen your report and are investigating". We're certainly not going to get an ETA because there is no upside for FD in making an...

Pareidolia specifically refers to seeing patterns that don't exist; a pattern recognition false positive. There's definitely a negative connotation to the word even though in some cases such as cloud watching the phenomenon can be a source of entertainment. Our brains have evolved to recognise patterns to such an incredible degree (arguably pattern recognition is the brain's primary purpose and the foundation of intelligence) that false positives are inevitable as generally the cost of a false positive...

You seem to be anticipating some negative responses to this, so I have to ask, why did you post it? There's no value in posting "I've found something, but I won't tell you what", even with a time limit. Just wait until you're ready to reveal the whole thing and then post. If you're not ready or not willing to completely lay out what you've found and how then just don't say anything. Because you're effectively saying "I know something you guys don't but I'm not going to tell you now", and frankly that is...

Data actually does have weight. Of course it's really really light, but it's not zero. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaUzu-iksi8

I don't see the advantage of only having to swap one item vs two, it seems to me that the time saving would be trivial as it's the driving back to the ship that take the time. Maybe an order that takes advantage of the items that are lying around so you can sometimes avoid returning to the trip at all would be more efficient?

To be clear this isn't an exploit, it's a clever result of pitch/yaw differential. It took a while to figure it out, and even longer to hone the wrestling skills to pump fake the NPCs in a rolling match. Even if you understand what I wrote, if you're a pilot of average agility like me, it will take you a month to get the technique down required to use it. It also usually requires a light weight paper-hull build to pull off, with plenty of engineering mods to lighten and speed up your ride. So while I...

That is only true if you use FA off, otherwise side thruster speed is limited. NPCs do not use FA off. They use pitch and reverse. So their reverse vector is limited to about 2/3 of max forward speed. Seems faster I know, but it's not. The less you hammer the boost button, the more obvious this becomes.

I've tested this thoroughly. NPCs do not go backwards at 330 or 440. They pitch while backpedaling, usually at very slow speeds of ~260. Watch their contrails. It's an arc, not a straight line. Your arc is on the outside track, because you're going faster. It's physics. If you actually understood what I saying, bravo. Wasn't sure how well I explained it. But try aiming at the side on inside of their turning arc. This will be a short cut to catching and flanking them.

NPCs don't need to go backwards at 440 to defeat your boost. They just need to turn while going backwards. Then you are effectively turning on a wider circle to try and match them because your momentum is so high. It's like record player, and you're on the outside edge of the record and they're near center. They only need to move a centimeter to cover the same angle that you do in several inches. I will tell you a secret that I've kept to myself for several months. But maybe will help advance...

You don't need to "equal" a combat ship to survive an encounter with a real adversary. The most you need to survive PVP is either SPEED, or a good shield and some shield boosters, 4 PIPs to SYS and a high wake target. These are things that pretty much mandatory for PVE anyway, or should be. And this leaves plenty of room for cargo and non-combat internals. Now if you've been relying on docile NPCs and sporting a paper shields to min-max your cargo capacity to "actually play the game" then you...

I haven't noticed a correlation between the obelisks and the data obtained, but Ram Tah does mention something like "in this Beta data blah blah..." at least once so I think there is supposed to be a correlation.

I don't think so, I think the CG was always planned. Why? Because cashing in the data uses a new screen in the station services UI and that probably had to be coded. If it was coded then it went in to the same release as the ruins data mystery itself.

I would like to see mined commodities price raised considerably. Have been on about it for nealy two years. Gave up a while back.

Ah sarcasm. You had me going there. 10M CR rebuy isn't a PVP Anaconda btw. I have a light build that 22M. It's fully engineered though which means I'll at least have the option to escape a no win situation. Hey at least you didn't CL. But I do understand frustration, I found at least 1 pilot on CQC that I can't beat, and it does kill the fun when someone is so far above you. Especially when I think I'm already pretty good. But the truth is, after 2209 hours in game, I'm still learning. The game...

I'm not against 3rd parties helping to develop the vision for the game. But I don't think the game should rely on it either. Credit it's fine, but the important stuff needs to be available within the game to everyone. 3rd party apps and 3rd party lore needs to be filtered for quality and safety.

single boost supercharging in a WD is not a time saver unless your only plotting one jump that is under 75-30LY away.
